Description/Specs

The DS-X (DS-Xtreme) is a revolutionary storage, homebrew and media player flash cart compatible with all DS Lite and original DS consoles.

Offering a SINGLE unified solution which allows you to do the unthinkable and push the limits of Nintendo’s ™ top selling handheld console. The DS-X does NOT require the use of a passme, external memory or any unsightly GBA cart, just one intelligently designed piece of kit, the same size as an ordinary DS cart, giving an unrivalled experience to any DS enthusiast.

Its plug and play in its finest hour, an in-built USB port on the DS-X paves the way for you to communicate easily between the DS-X OS and your computer. Drag ‘n drop all your favourite media and homebrew as you please directly onto the included 4GBit (512-Mbyte) memory with minimal effort as the DS-X will be instantly recognized by your machine.

Xtreme Functionality – One device, Limitless Opportunity:

- One single unified device, no need for GBA Cart, external memory or passme/flashme
- Functions as a flash cart, compatible with homebrew, media and other image files

- Intuitively designed custom operating system which is fully upgradeable
- Included 4GBit (512Mbyte) onboard flash memory
- Bespoke hardware design compatible with all current and future DS consoles, same size as original DS cartridge – does NOT stick out!
- Custom engineered components such as a High-Speed USB 2.0 mini-B connector and full sized EEPROM.

The Review Itself

The DS-Xtreme is the first of a new generation of Flash Carts for the Nintendo DS, no longer is there a need for a Boot Cart/Flash Cart combo, this has the added bonus of 4GB of storage space built in.

The Box the Flash Cart came in was id say about 8cm x 8cm in size, inside the box there was a USB Flash Cable and the Cartridge itself, one downer is there was no instructions, OK lets try some games :)

The USB Cable was like any other cable so no need to say anymore there.

The Flash Cartridge was similiar in weight and build quality to a normal DS game cartridge, Ok lets connect the Flash Cart and the USB Cable.

Wow the DS-Xtreme was found right away by the PC and i was informed it was a USB 2.0 device but at this time of night ill use a basic USB 1.0 port, the DS-Xtreme when connected had 2 neat looking lights that lit up, think Car headlights and youll not be far off.

On opening the folder in windows there was 3 folders, apps, music, skin and an xml file, file transfering to the Flash Cart was fast and even faster if i used a USB 2.0 port.

The DS-Xtreme slotted into the cartridge slot OK not as smooth as a normal cart but Ok, it did feel like it was touching the inside wall more than a normal cart.

Ok time to turn it on.

It works like any other DS Game Cart and had a nice DSXtreme box in the menu column, i clicked that and then it booted up, it booted into a nice looking Operating system with 4 options, Apps which is for Games and Homebrew etc, Music, Settings and About.

Settings and About arent really of interest so straight to Music, i put Songs of different lengths and rates on and they played perfectly.

Onto Games, i was greeted by the names and little icons of the games i had installed when i clicked on the apps section. I tried quite over 20 Commercial games and i must say everyone loaded and played perfectly, no rom converting just copy over and play. Also it automatcally made save files.

Onto Homebrew and again out of the Games, Demos and apps i tried they worked Perfectly.

Comments
Wow and i do mean WOW, this is the perfect Flash Cart for the DS, take away the loss of GBA Homebrew and you have the easiest way to play Homebrew, Music and Games on your DS, no daft rom converting, the ability to save, no messing around with Boot carts or extra memory cards.

At the moment this is the new king of DS Flashcarts, remember im no tech head, i come in from the know a little angle and im really impressed. If your new to the Nintendo DS scene then you can buy in confidence.

So my recommendations are

Overall i would give it a 9.9 /10 , easily the best DS Flashcart in my opinion.
