Ive been out of the emulation scene for almost 7 months so please forgive me if Im making any stupid questions, today my brother bought god of war chains of olympus and he could not play it.. this is because we're on custom firmware 3.03 oe a and firmware 3.80 is required, he said he doesn't really care about homebrew anymore so he wanted to just update, when we go to "psp update ver 3.80" in the game menu of the psp a message pops out saying " the game could not be started. (DADADADA)" . if anyone can help me out with a solution to this problem I would really appreciate it thanks :)

your have two options:

1) make a pandora battery (look it up) and use it to revert to official firmware, and than just update

2) update to Dark_Alex's 3.90 m33-3 cfw (http://www.dark-alex.org) witch is the normal 3.90 firmware + the 1.5 kernel, and so you'll still have access to your homebrew and all UMDs

I would advise sticking with the custom firmware as you keep homebrew and it's easier than making a pandora battery/memory stick to downgrade with (although its always good to have a pandora battery around just in case).

Use the update(s) from the link darkriku2000 gave, but
Update to 3.52 M33, then 3.52 M33-4.
Then choose if you want either 3.80 M33 or 3.90 M33
Finally, update to the most recent version of the one you chose (3.80 M33-5 or 3.90M33-3).

You do not need to install all the updates in between, just the 'release', and the latest update for it for each firmware version.

The readme files included with the download explains how to update, its very easy.

The DADADADA code is a custom error code by Dark Alex (http://www.dark-alex.org)
It means that your trying to run an official update on custom firmware, which just inst possible.
If you really want to run official firmware the best method is to use Pandora (http://www.dcemu.co.uk/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=2148040799&postcount=8).
If you want to try softdowning the PSP to 1.5 again you could try the Recovery pack for 3.02OE-A - 3.40OE-A (http://www.dcemu.co.uk/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=49967)
Then you could start updating your PSP using official firmware updates (http://www.psp-hacks.com/category/36).
You should really just update the CFW you already have.
You'll need to go all the way up to 3.52M33-4 first and then 3.80M33 or 3.90M33 if you wish.
After 3.71 you will need to install the 1.50 plug-in that darkriku2000 mentions.
