ok i followed the instructions to install the ultimate deathnote theme and when i turn on my psp only the time and battery icon appear nothing else

Sony changes the way the XMB handles icons from firmware to firmware.
This means that themes for 3.40 wont work for 3.52 or 3.7 and so on without first being converted (http://www.dcemu.co.uk/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=69369).

So if you tried to use this:
PSP: Ultimate Death Note Theme for 3.40oe (http://www.dcemu.co.uk/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=61529)
On a 3.52 or 3.7 or higher PSP it wont work.
3.40 can be converted to 3.52
3.52 themes can be converted to 3.72 but volume, battery icons some other cons wont work. (semi brick the psp)

From 3.71 on ptf themes are the way to go.
To test themes without much risk of bricking your PSP use CXMB (http://www.2alien.info/)
