New PSP(fat) w/ 1.5 firmware and 4gbMS... where to start?

Hi guys! I just got my first PSP. It is the fat version and it has official 1.5 firmware on it. I also got a 4gb memory stick, and a bunch of games (Crisis Core, Portable Ops, Vice City Stories, etc).

Ideally I would like to get things set up to where I could do the following things:
-Play my old PSX favorites from the memory stick.
-Play UMD backups of the new PSP games (so I can just carry the PSP in my pocket and not lug a travel case with all the UMDs and stuff around)
-View PDFs for ebook reading.
-Browse the web from wifi hotspots
-Use emulators for older systems like SNES and Megadrive
-All the basic stuff like music, movies etc

I haven't kept up on PSP homebrew stuff since way back when the system first came out and my roomy had one. Now I've come back and searched around the forums for stuff like this, and can't find any compiled information or a place to get started from where I am. Is is possible to do all the above mentioned stuff in the same setup?

I understand that I will probably have to install a custom firmware, how should I do that from ancient 1.5? Has anyone gotten UMD game backups playing stably from the memory stick?

Anybody who can give me a push in the right direction on this stuff would be much appreciated. If all of this is common, easily accessible knowledge that I've somehow missed then forgive me for being a wanker and please delete the thread.

I thought they were legal if you owned the original disc media, like all isos including the PSX ones that are much discussed on here...

And what does "flash" a custom firmware mean? Is that like "install"?

Then from there what do I need to be able to run PSX titles like FFVII, MGS, or RE2/3? Something called popsloader? What version and where could I find it?

Installation for 1.50
Installing 3.52 Custom Firmware on a 1.50 PSP:
The installation files (http://dl.qj.net/CFW-3.52-M33-PSP-Homebrew-Applications/pg/12/fid/14167/catid/151).

* Copy the folders 'kxploitpatcher and kxploitpatcher%' to the directory; 'X:/PSP/GAME/' on your PSP's memory stick.
* Copy the folder 'M33CREATOR' to the directory; 'X:/PSP/GAME/' on your PSP's memory stick.
* Run the kxploitpatcher program.
* Download the official 3.52 update (http://www.psp-hacks.com/file/1209) and rename to 352.PBP.
* Copy the 352.PBP to the directory; 'X:/PSP/GAME/M33CREATOR/' on your PSP's memory stick.
* Download the official 1.50 update (http://rapidshare.com/files/67857715/163_EBOOT_1.50.zip) and rename to 150.PBP.
* Copy the 150.PBP to the directory; 'X:/PSP/GAME/M33CREATOR/' on your PSP's memory stick.
* Execute '3.52 M33 CREATOR' under GAME on your PSP.
* Then execute '3.52 M33UPDATE' under GAME on your PSP.
* Once finished, press X.
* Have fun on 3.52 Custom Firmware!

You'll need to rip your PSX CDs to ISO using your computer, there you can use a program like PSX2PSP (http://www.dcemu.co.uk/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=104765) to convert the .ISO to the PSP's .eboot format.

-Play UMD backups of the new PSP games (so I can just carry the PSP in my pocket and not lug a travel case with all the UMDs and stuff around)
You'll need a ISO dumper. Not really sure I can help you with this.

After you've flashed a M33 firmware, you'll have a web browser in the XMB (main menu)

I believe Snes9xTYL++ & Picodrive (http://www.dcemu.co.uk/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=2148046555) are the best for those two.

-All the basic stuff like music, movies etc
As I say, you'll have all that once you get yourself onto a CF.

Pretty much. As I understand, you're replacing files in your flash with ones that'll allow the custom firmware.

Popsloader will come with your chosen CF. For better compatibility, you can dump all the previous popsloader plugins.

No offence, but a search for each individual question could probably have to you all this in much greater detail. Still...you're more clued in than most, I suppose.

Alright so I've got everything installed up to 3.90M33-3. Now I need to figure out how popsloader works, and how to "run pops 3.52"..

Would it be against the board rules for someone explain to explain how one could convert dumped umd backups into eboots?

I have everything installed as should be required for PSX emulation. I'm at 3.90 M33-3, with popsloader 3.80 v.2 installed and all of the PRX files properly named and in the popsloader folder. I have all the plugins installed and enabled as per all the tutorials' instructions. Now--where do I put my PSX game eboots in order to have them recognized by popsloader and be able to see if they work?

Put your converted .eboot in a folder and put that in PSP/GAME.
