Opening up the pages of the latest issue of Famitsu, one game caught our eye: Every Extend Extra for the PSP. The second we saw that peculiar name, the jokes about strange Japanese uses of English began flying.

And then we learned the true nature of the curiously named beast. Every Extend Extra is actually Q Entertainment's latest game. That's right, the creative force behind Lumines, Meteos and Xbox 360's upcoming Ninety-Nine Nights revealed yesterday that it has a new title under development through its qb label of simple games. Every Extend Extra is that game, and it's for the PSP.
Set to be published by Bandai, Every Extend Extra is a puzzle game that, at first glance, resembles Lumines thanks to its slick visual style. Described as an action shooting game rather than a puzzler, the game screen is just as confusing as Lumines was when we first saw it. In the one screen we've seen so far, the left and right sides of the screen show a grid not unlike the playfield of Lumines. Towards the center, the game displays the phrase "Chain Bonus" atop a flood of circular lights and a spider-like creature that appears to be crawling around. The screen displays stats for things like high score, score, stock next extend, chain and what appears to be a timer.

The idea behind the game is to collect enemy objects and make them explode. You have to avoid enemy objects and gather them in the center of the screen. Bring together a certain number of enemies, and they will explode. You'll apparently be able to gather enemies together in excess of one hundred.

Obviously, like Lumines, Every Extend Extra is a game that needs to be played before we can fully understand it. Q Entertainment creative leader Tetsuya Mizuguchi has stated that the game will combine music with gameplay just like Lumines, so we expect that hearing will play an important part as well.

Every Extend Extra will be on display in the Bandai booth at the Tokyo Game Show. Perhaps we'll begin to understand the name once the show floor opens on Friday.

For those of you that don't know, OMEGA already has a homebrew game called Every Extend on PC. It's something of a prequel to this game. If anyone wants to know what this Every Extend Extra game is going to be like, I suggest you to google the homebrew PC version. IMO it's a great game to play in short bursts, so it should work well with the PSP crowd.
