Here's Attack of the Mutants (http://psp-news.dcemu.co.uk/attackofthemutants.shtml)

It's a classic arcade style space shooter.

You fly a spaceship collecting power ups and blasting waves of enemies through 10 levels and beyond. Each level will get a little harder as new evil mutant enemies are introduced. Good luck reaching and defeating the Evil Mutant Final Boss!

Hope you guys like it :)

Thanks for the positive feedback guys :)

how do i install it? im lost on that part.
Open up the "aotm_v0.2.rar" file you downloaded with Winrar (www.rarsoft.com). If you have a version 1.5 PSP, go to the "1.5" folder and copy the "aotm" and "aotm%" to your psp's PSP\GAME folder (h:\psp\game - where "h" is your psp's drive). After that it should show up under games on the memory stick in the PSP's main menu
Hope that helps :)

Great little shooter DeNitro I really like the MOD option :D I'm trying to do a couple for it now in my spare time...just one question. What's the S3M format? Is it just a compressed wav or the BG music isn't meant to be modded?

Great little shooter DeNitro I really like the MOD option :D I'm trying to do a couple for it now in my spare time...just one question. What's the S3M format? Is it just a compressed wav or the BG music isn't meant to be modded? Thanks =) The music can be replaced with any S3M, but unfortunatly they arn't compressed wavs. It's an older format but it's still popular, just not for recorded music. S3M's are tracked almost like a MIDI, except the sound samples in an S3M are stored in the file itself rather than a wavetable on the soundcard like Midi's use. There's a few other formats in this catagory almost identical to S3M's including .MOD, .XM, and .IT .
You can probably google S3M if your interested in tracking your own or would like to find other great S3M's available on the internet you could swap with. I may add mp3 support in a future release but I went with S3M's for now because they use a Lot less of the cpu to play.

Thanks for the comments :)

Ok here are my "beta" mods They are "Star Wars" themed. Just overwrite the folders to your gamecard. I think I did the 1.0 right but have no way of checking it since I have a 1.5....anyone?

I'm saying "beta" because I do intend to finish it of with some other sounds.

This is alot of fun DeNitro... once again thanks for sharing with the community. Is there any way you can make it so it saves your options? Oh and one other thing...how about some points for all the small asteroids you blow up? :D

DeNitro
October 19th, 2005, 21:42
Very cool Jdemon. I'm definitly a fan of the cassic Starwars movies too :)
I'll PM you with some tips that may helpful, like with the blending on the edge of the sprites.

Sure, adding points for the asteroids should be easy.
I'll see about the options save feature too =)

I'm glad your having fun with it. I wasn't sure how popular or interesting the mod support would be, but I figured there's a lot of creative people out there that could come up with some neat things like this :)

so then, i will continue the AOTM modding!
I made some new graphics for Super Metroid fans.

I did it just for fun and didn't expect anything great from it - but although its not finished yet i think its quite funny.

just unzip the graphics into your AOTM directory, thats all.
(for example H:\psp\game\aotm)

I also tried to make some screenshots, but thats not easy... the big boss killed me everytime before i could take a good picture =)

... so you have to go for it yourselves!

@DeNitro: How do i make these sprites?! Is there a special app for it?
Thanks for the mail!

Have fun!!!

Very nice ArKo...LOVE the Boss!!!

Hey DeNitro - I thought of something else too, the Podgun is a little hard to see. Any way of getting rid ot the lines or maybe even moving the score to the bottom? Oh and while I'm asking you annoying little questions...what is SOUND131? It's the only one I couldn't figure out. :D

wraggster - this was the only good shot I've got so far:

DeNitro
October 20th, 2005, 22:44
Jdemon, I'll try moving the lines and score info and see how it looks. I did notice it covers the podgun a little. SOUND131.wav is the sound-fx for the the players laser hitting the Final Boss. I don't mind the questions at all :)

ArKo, Great mod! That boss is very nice.
For the question about the sprites, do you mean the animated ones, or just sprites in general? The tip I was talking about in the previous post was about an easy way to make programs like photoshop not blend the edges of the sprite into the teal transparency color, which removes any teal glow around the sprites.
If it's about the animation, most graphic programs that lets you display and snap to a grid, and supports drag and drop from one image to another should work great. For example the power up box animation, make your 960x32 graphic, turn on a 32 pixel grid, and turn on snap to grid. This is the animation tileset, but don't actually do drawing in this one. Make a seperate 32x32 file(s) and draw/create your frame(s) in that/those and drag and drop each completed frame in sequence to the tileset file and they will snap right in place with the grid, and you won't get extra artifacts hanging off one frame into the other since the original cut everything into our 32x32 frame size.
I hope that answered your question, if not let me know =)

I'll see if I can add some kind of screenshot support in the next release.
Again, great job on the mods so far :)

The Star Wars mod is very good, thanks

ArKo
October 21st, 2005, 17:00
Thanks DeNitro.

Now against this blending pixels around the graphics I work with layers, the bottom layer is only the tranparency color, all graphics are in another layer above - and when i'm ready i reduce all layers to background.
or is there an option to prevent this smoothing when I insert and scale a graphic? i did not find one...

using a grid makes it a lot easier, thanks. :D

What I meant were those 3D sprites, like the asteroids.
Is there a program who can generate such sprites from files made in 3d studio max for example.
Or have i to take a shot of a objekt, turn it a bit, take another shot, turn it, and so on....

(sorry for bad english, but i think you'll understand...)
ArKo

DeNitro
October 22nd, 2005, 01:48
In some programs you can prevent it from doing the auto blending. In Photoshop for example you can disable blending by going to "Edit->Preferences->General" and changing the Image Interpolation option to "Nearest Neighbor". This will prevent the blending when your editing the graphics. Also when you resize an image in photoshop, you can prevent the blending that does by making sure the resample option box in the ""Image->Resize Image" tool has Nearest Neighbor set too.

For the 3D sprites, 3D studio max is exactly what I used for the originals. Create your animation like a normal and change the enviroment background from the default black to the teal (hotkey is "8" I think) Then when you go to render it, set the render pixel size to the frame size you'd like to use, 32x32 for example, set output file as bitmap, and set the render range from 0 to your last frame. Also remember to disable anti-aliasing in the render options to prevent it from blending edges into the teal also. It will render all the frames into individual bitmaps at 32x32 or whatever you set. After that you can double click each frame and drag and drop into the tileset like before. There might be an easer way to do it but thats how I made those original 3D graphics and it worked ok =)

Hope that helps :)

Actually I grew up on Nintendo and still think they are great systems, I just figured it would be fun since this was a PSP game to have a DS for an Final boss =)

The Music is by Purple Motion, and was used in a classic demo back in '93. Very old school, but I thought it would be a great tune to use in AOTM :)

Excelent Update DeNitro!!!! :D
Some really great improvements, especially the ability to change the mod within the game. I will definitely try to get you something by about mid week, I still have a few things to fix. Hopefully I can find some music that is better now that XM and MOD are supported as well. BTW I noticed that the power ups are now worth points too...I was wondering about that.

These screenshots were taken with the new capture feature. Great stuff!!

Here's Attack of the Mutants 0.4a - Modpack Edition (http://psp-news.dcemu.co.uk/attackofthemutants.shtml)

Changes-This released is packed with many great player made mods
-Added a temporary fix to load and play large mp3's that would previously crashed the game
-MP3's will now also play from within folders in "/psp/music"
-Fixed a bug where a folder property could be inadvertently set when compressing up a mod, hiding it from the mod list. (Thanks xxxdvlman)
-If NintendoDSMouth.png is a blank all teal file, a black rectangle will not be drawn on the Boss either
-If mp3 play is not enabled and a mod is loaded with no custom music, default AOTM music will reload
-A few other small bug fixes

NOTE: 1.0 users need to copy the "Mods" and "Sounds" folder out of the 1.5 AOTM to their 1.0 eboot folder.

For this release, I converted many of the included mods graphics to an indexed color system, making sure there was no quality loss from the original. This significantly reduces the total size of the Modpack, bringing the download to about 4 meg, and the install to about 8 meg

I want to give a big thanks to all the mod authors for making all these awesome mods!

I've been busy working on my other project lately, so I only got a few small fixes in the core game, but I do still plan on working more on this after the other project smooths out =)

I'm working on getting another game out at the same time as updating AOTM so new versions will be slow for a little while, but I'm hoping people will enjoy the other game too =)

how do you get it on your psp-
if you have a 1.5 then download and extract file and file% to your game folder or if folder folder% arent included use kxploit tool to make them with the eboot (read, read-mes for further help)

if you have 2.0 or up download fanjita's super bock and read the read me attached... but you will also need a copy of grand theft auto liberty city stories
