Hi All,

Pardon my ignorance but this is my first week of owning a PSP for the very first time so bear with me if this sounds noobish. Got a few questions to ask

Q1. I checked my PSP and the system firmware is 2.60. I bought this psp from one of my colleague (it's an old one not the slim one). I own a game called "Marvel Nemesis: Rise of the Imperfects". When i try to play it via UMD, there's a little icon which says "PSP Update ver 1.52". What is that for? will it update my system firmware back to 1.52?

Q2: This question relates to Q1. Assuming that my psp firmware will be downgraded from 2.60 to 1.52, will it be the case that i will be unable to play any games which are of later version?

Q3. How efficient it is to downgrade and upgrade versions for every game i play?

Q4. How can i know if i can play homebrew games on my PSP? Do i need to check something on my PSP.

Q5. What is TA-82? how do i check my psp for that?

Many thanks for listening to all this noobish talk :-) Appreciate your help guys.

Brilliant ... most of it is very clear now but my next question would be, according to Q1what exactly is that version update?.
I checked the information on my PSP which is something like
MAC Address: *******
System Software: Version 2.60
Nickname: *****

I read it somewhere that when you open up your UMD drive, there's a code that you need to look for something like ICN0001 or something. Well i don't see that code any where so would i be able to downgrade the system version?

ALSO (phew!) how do i downgrade my psp? is there a software? or a hardware? and wasy noobish step by step would be great if possible :) remember, it's my first week in to PSP and plus am not technical :)

The update on the disk is the least FW that needed to run it, if your psp is higherdon't worry.
Yes there is but with the pandora battery. no need to do that if you want to.
there is a program that can up/downgrade. I would recommend this.

Also google hard mod pandora so you can hack your psp so you can play homebrew and since it's a fat, install 1.50 kernal which allows you to play amulators.

First of, sorry for the double post. Just one little confusion. I have had a look at google for TA-82 as per the image (http://img106.imageshack.us/img106/4...82spot1bm3.jpg) and i can't see any such numbering but on the left side of my PSP it says IC9001. Is it a TA-082? Can this be downgradable? if yes then how? Thanks mate.

There's a program called pspid (I think. forgot the name). It ain't downgradble but why do you want to downgrade? Why not upgrade.

What the ****? Why make him do a pandora downgrade if he can downgrade normally?

This is a bit outdated, but will be fine for your firmware :) http://www.psp-hacks.com/file/1044

After that, use this http://www.psp-hacks.com/file/1407 to upgrade to 3.90-M33, then this to M33-3 http://www.psp-hacks.com/file/1447 and finally, this to install 1.50 kernel http://www.psp-hacks.com/file/1461

Just follow the instructions and you should be fine. Please post here if you need any more help.

He needs to be running 3.52 M33-3 or higher before going to 3.90-M33.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
DOWNGRADING/UPGRADING TIPS:
Before any upgrade/downgrade, a few things to keep in mind,
Charge ur battery so its 100% full, AC power plugged in when u run the upgrade/downgrade, backup any valuable files/savedata from ur psp, restore psp to default settings, format memstick before coping files to psp, remove any umd from ur psp, read readme file, NEVER TURN OFF PSP DURING DOWNGRADE/UPGRADE!

DOWNGRADING:
This must be done to install custom firmware, custom firmware removes Sony's restrictions, such as playing iso's and running homebrew (unsigned programs). Downgrading will typically bring ur psp back to 1.5 firmware, from there u install custom firmware. read readme's.

run this to update to 2.80
http://rapidshare.com/files/12130275/280update.rar
then this to downgrade to 1.5
http://calo-hacks.com/downloads/downgra … nGrade.zip

once at 1.5, run this
Links 4 noobproof 3.52M33 custom firmware installers (props to Calo and Stallone):
Download, extract/uncompress file, read readme file, run exe file.
run these installers from with 1.5 kernal mode set.
-Go from 1.5 to 3.52M33 here:
http://calo-hacks.com/downloads/customf … 201.50.zip
then this
Once at 3.52M33, install Update #4, here:
http://calo-hacks.com/downloads/customf … date-4.zip

then this

3.90M33
(Minimum requirement of 3.52-3M33 installed first)
Important! MAKE sure ur kernal is set to 3.xx or u will brick(hold R trigger when starting psp to enter recovery menu, enter config, set game homebrew kernal to 3.xx)
hold L trigger + triangle throughout boot. When the screen says 'Verifying 390.PBP', let go, and update normally.
3.90M33 Update 3 noob proof installer

1.5 kernal addon patch V2 for 3.90M33(fat psp's only, NOT 4 slims.)
http://www.sendspace.com/file/1ar5kp
3.71 fatmsmod.prx patch (improves memcard read speed)
http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?zzmyy5m3jwm
Move the 'fatmsmod.prx' file to the root. Move the 'fatmspatch' folder to /PSP/GAME and run after you updated to 3.90 M33-3.
Popsloader for PS1 games
http://www.psp-hacks.com/forums/viewtopic.php?id=118794 Popsloader 3.00 - 3.72 full pack (everyone should have this! 3.80M33 and higher users...)
http://www.psp-hacks.com/forums/viewtopic.php?id=131558 [Tutorial] How to install and use Popsloader

IMPORTANT
Now that u have custom M33 firmware, u need to set ur iso loader and boost ur cpu speeds...
to do so, enter VSH menu (press home button from xmb for 3.52 users and select button from xmb for 3.71+ users) then scroll down and set umd mode/iso loader to SONY NP9660(The Best!)
and, boost ur cpu speeds in game and xmb to 333/166, this will not harm ur psp(only uses battery up a little faster)(Wifi card can become hot if used for long periods @ this speed)
Also, format memstick to delete unneeded install files and create folder structure...

All praise goes the genius DARK ALEX, For his outstanding creation of SE/OE/M33 firmwares.
Also, read Demonchild's tut on M33 firmware to understand more.
