Cupertino was supposed to earn $30 million from the $1.3 billion project, but it was apparently riddled (http://9to5mac.com/2015/01/13/ipads-for-students-lausd/) with issues (http://www.engadget.com/2014/08/26/los-angeles-doesnt-want-500-million-worth-of-ipads-after-all/)from the beginning. It didn't take long for the initiative to crumble, and LAUSD -- accused of mismanagement, miscalculation and corruption among other things -- is now under FBI investigation (http://www.engadget.com/2014/12/03/la-unified-school-district-under-investigation-for-bungled-ipad/) for the bidding process that spawned the contract.
