mem stick question

Hi, I know loads of people have asked similar questions but I havent found any answers to this specific question, so please bear with me if it's already been asked, I havent found the answer:

I have a PSP (Playstation Portable). I need to get a 1GB Memory stick for it. After a week or so of research I've gathered that I need to get the Sandisk brand (it's faster) of the Memory Stick Pro Duo (Pro is also faster, and the Duo is required for PSP).

However, this still leaves me confused, because even when i break down to that, there seem to be several choices left from Sandisk.

-There's a "regular" 1GB Pro Duo stick which is blue (SDMSPD-1024-A10)

-There's a yellow one from the "gaming" series which is apparently specially made for the PSP (SDMSG-1024-A10)

-Finally there is another yellow one with a slightly different model number (SDMSG-1024-A17)

I want to be able to do everything with this card, i.e. save games, music, pictures, video files and everything else possible.
Which is the best of these three, or is there yet another I should consider?

The first two are identicle, and only their color being different. The first one, however, does come with a Pro adapter. As for the third one, I havent seen any information on Sandisk.com that suggests its any different than the other two. I think they may have changed to model number to sway people into paying slightly higher prices for a "newer" model.

In fact, I had called Sandisk support when I first puchased my PSP to ask them what was the difference in the gaming line vs. the retail line. The support specialist said there wasnt any physical difference other than the packaging, and the adapter inclusion.

If you dont need the adapter, and the price is the same, I'd go with the newest. If there is a fair amount of difference in the price, you'll be better served with the retail blue stick.

I had actually emailed SD about this before and they just happened to email me back today so this is their input on it, I thought I'd share it with anyone who'd be interested. Their reply in quotes below:

"The only difference between the Gaming Memory Stick Pro Duo card and the Memory Stick Pro Duo card is the color. You may save files in all formats in both the Gaming Memory Stick Pro Duo card and the Memory Stick Pro Duo card."

That said, i dont know why they jack up the price on the gaming one if they are basically identical except for colour.

The production costs for making the color casing are still affecting the prices of them. The cost for making the "ugly" blue casing of the retail pro duo or probably lower since its been available for a while.

yeah i guess that makes sense..and youre right that blue is ugly. actually imo they are both not that great looking, im glad they are hidden from view :p

I actually just happen to own both of the cards you are talking about and I can tell you that there is no performance difference at all. Both are the exact same capacity of 947MB (FAT32) also. I would suggest that you go with the one with the Magic Gate adapter if you have a card reader for your PC. It's much quicker copying and deleting files than pluging in your PSP every time.

I just bought one of amazon. It is rather cheap for 2Gb. Being in the UK I bought off amazon.co.uk so I'm not sure if its the same for whichever version of amazon you use. For me it was £96.99
