Gen Con, the biggest tabletop gaming convention in the world, is coming to Australia in July, and we have the details. Over four days from July 3 to July 6 in Brisbane, Gen Con will feature computer game tournaments, miniature war games tournaments, board game tournaments, card game tournaments, role playing tournaments, cosplay competitions, movie premieres, and lectures and seminars on game development.

A few of the highlights include:


4th Edition D&D showcased for the first time in Australia

Star Wars: Force Unleashed unveiled to the public

Demonstrations by EA of Mercenaries 2: World in Flames and Lord of the Rings Conquest

In-house movie theatres screening anime films

The Australian movie premiere of Dragonlance

Collectable card game tournaments for Pokemon, Yu-gi-oh!, World of Warcraft, Magic: the Gathering and others

Miniature war games tournaments for Warhammer, Lord of the Rings, Mechwarrior, War Machine, Heroclix and others

200 player computer game tournament featuring Counter-Strike Source, Call of Duty 4, Starcraft and Warcraft 3

The latest games from THQ, The Creative Assembly, Pandemic, Fuzzy Eyes and Halfbrick

Gen Con will also play host to a number of special guests, including Tracy Hickman, the author of the Dragonlance trilogy, Sean Williams, who will present on the novelisation of Star Wars: Force Unleashed, Steve Stamatiadas, co-founder of Krome Studios, and Graham O'Neill, the author of several Warhammer 40K novels. Other guests include Chris Sabat (Dragon Ball voice actor), Jason Marsden (Dragonlance voice actor), David Nykl (of Stargate fame), author Marianne dePierres, author Kylie Chan and Mungo McKay (of Undead fame).

Tickets are $16.50 online – during the pre-registration period which closes in mid-June, or $22 at the door. Once registered you can lock in your place for the various competitions and competitive tournaments.
