I do prefer the Dreamcast over most and then surprisingly for FPS games the Xbox controller :)

Eviltaco64
May 26th, 2008, 03:05
The Playstation controller for Fighters.
S/NES/Genesis controllers for 2-D Platformers
The Xbox "Duke" Controller for FPS (it fits my hands perfectly)

Gamecube for hand fitting-ness.

Keyboard for 3rd/fps

PS2 for all-around

I'd say PS2.

All-around DualShock3 is my favorite.
Logitech Rumblepad 2 is very good too.
And yes, Wavebird for Gamecube was very nice for the hand-fittedness.
Many people say the 360 controller, but it has the worst D-pad I've ever tried, makes it tough to play Live Arcade games. Nice for FPS, I know.

I'll probably get bashed for saying it but I really like the N64 controller, it does look weird but if nintendo could've made a more durable joystick it would've been the best, I mean that controller never gave me any kind of soreness or anything like that, well it's only my opinion.

Despite my likings of the N64 controller, I think the best one is the Dualshock 2

Edit: LOL, I've just realized that the Dualshock 2 looks like an evolved version of the snes controller

You obviously never played the original Mario Party...games like the Tug of War absolutely KILLED the palm of my hand and I am talking flayed skin and blood  I would say the Gamecube controller being my favorite in particular the Wavebird. It still brings me much love for my Wii.

It's a toughie but i'd say the six button megadrive controller and the Neo geo arcade stick(aes). the dreamcast conforms to my hand well also

That might be - in fact I agree, but who uses the Dpad for anything these days?

It's just there for changing weapons or camera angles and stuff.

SNES for 2D, Mouse + KB for 3D.

If the game is designed for a joypad then I'd say 360 controller, but using both sets of triggers at once makes it less comfortable to use for me personally though.

The Gamecube controller was probably the best controller, some of the third-party controllers even felt better than the official ones, I had a Semi-Transparent Orange Controller it had grey-ish grips on the side, the buttons were a perfect size. I think it was by MadCatz(sp?) It was such a nice controller.

Ive got to agree with hadokenakuma. And say that the 6 button megadrive/genesis control pad is the nicest ive tried (well for 2d games any ways).

The D pad was spot on for all your fireball, dragon punch and even spinning pile driver needs on street fighter 2 (the true test for any d pad!).

The Xbox 360 Controller hands down, no other controller is universal like that one...2nd place would have to be the N64 controller.

Xbox 360 controller or the Dual Shock 2 overall.

I'm really picky about controllers, and I've never used a perfect controller. I'm particularly picky about d-pads; few are any good.

My answer is the SNES controller, but a PERFECT controller would have the following:
SNES d-pad
6 face buttons in SFII 3X3 configuration + select and start
two (and only two) triggers
button/analog stick layout like the DualShock 2 (except, as above, with six face buttons and two triggers instead of four and four)
Shaped like the Xbox360 controller (but with a thinner top end, due to only having one set of triggers)

The closest thing I've ever seen to this was the Nubytech SFII Anniversary controller, but that has no analog sticks (minor inconvenience) and a mushy, useless d-pad (BIG inconvenience). So I still say SNES, but if any controller company is listening... :)

Dual Shock 2 (or dual-shock 3 + sixaxis if you prefer now) hands down,
360 comes in close second (only because the d-pad is so bad on it and doesnt come with rechargeable batteries)

1. wiimote + nunchuck:p
they fit for almost anything, except maybe big RPG games.

2. Keyboard + Mouse
they fit for almost anything except driving games, but awesome for RPG games.

Purely my opinion

1. The Wii-mote & Nunchuck - Nice to have your hands how you want, i can even scratch my nose while i am playing (no need to have both hands in front of you to hold a joypad). What i am trying to say is, you can let your hands get in a more relaxed position, the way you like to sit in a chair..etc (when not playing with motion sensor)

2. The SNES/Playstation controller (nintendo for the credits & I liked the d-pad on the snes more)

3. Dreamcast controller.

I'm with you, dude. And I always felt it would have been genious if they simply made the stick removable. Maybe buy a 3 pack of replacable sticks for $4.99. The controllers would have lasted forever! I don't care what you say...the N64 controller had absolutely incredible precision. Games like Goldeneye, Mario 64, Mario Kart 64, Perfect Dark and Pilotwings will be remembered fondly forever and the controller plays a huge part in that!!!

I'd say the Dreamcast controller for most games (shenmue, nes emulation, resident evil etc...except

for Halo I use a PS1 dualshock controller since it's digital not analog like that ps2 controllerSo it seems more responsive(obviously I use an adapter)

for 2d fighters i use a sega saturn controller it has all the buttons and feels like the most advanced genesis controller...

the atari jaguar controller is fun to use with alien vs predator too....

I like FPS a lot, so I'd go with the 360 controller.

My answer is the SNES controller, but a PERFECT controller would have the following:
[list] SNES d-pad

 I'm really picky about d-pad's too. I made a SNES--Parallel adapter so I can play 2d platformers on my comp with my snes controller.

I did recently get a Hori Anashin for use on my PS2 (Klonoa, Contra) and I think I actually like it better than the SNES, the D-pad is reallly nice..

For racing games, the 360 controller is ace.

Mouse/Keyboard for fps of course

And Logitech Wingman digital extreme 3d for getting my Descent on :)

Certainly the gamecube contoller. THe buttons are shaped, and even colored, so my hands always know what I'm pressing.
Everything is easy to reach quickly. Without even lifting your finger off the A button you can tap the Y, X, and B button with your thumb!

The L and R buttons are really well fitting to your fingers, and the Z button is easily pressed with the right index finger.

I've always hated controller with buttons far apart, which is why I HATE playstation controllers.

It's gamecube all the way.

Same for me,the gamecube controller because it is so simplified and easy to use,and in fact,I use it for my computer as a joystick with a joystick converter
that I got at WAL-MART :D

P.S. it works almost perfectly for the project 64 emulator because using the keyboard
doesn't work well because of having no deadzone or sensitivity limit.

HAS to be the dualshock 3. Maybe its because ive grown up with the pad but for me its just perfect (well except for the R2 AND L2) the d-pads great, anologue sticks are great, and just feels comfortable. Its the best all-round pad I think

I like using the Xbox it was very comfortable. So id also say the Xbox 360 cause its pretty much the same. If anyone has said in here the Dreamcast controller thats horrible. Yes i love the system its great for all the games and homebrew it brings but the controller was to clunky and was built like a 3rd party controller.
