A lot of people have a lot to say about Marvel movies in the wake of the negative comments about them from Martin Scorsese and Francis Ford Coppola. Disney's CEO, Bob Iger, has now weighed in on the drama with a take of his own.
Speaking at the WSJ Tech Live event (https://www.wsj.com/articles/disney-chief-robert-iger-defends-marvel-movies-against-hollywood-critics-11571804492?shareToken=staa7aa6778b8e464094be67231 eff6ef2) in Laguna Beach, the CEO responded specifically to how Coppola said Marvel movies are "despicable." (https://www.gamespot.com/articles/marvel-and-superhero-movies-are-despicable-godfath/1100-6470707/) Iger said "despicable" is a word he reserves for mass murderers, adding that saying such a thing about Marvel movies is disrespectful to the many people who work on them.
"I reserve the word 'despicable' for someone who committed mass murder," Iger said. "These are movies."
Scorsese and Coppola also are failing to understand how the Marvel movie audience is reacting to and appreciating the MCU films, Iger said.
