Downloaded the Super Street Fighter II Turbo High Definition Remix beta? Having problems with freezes, like so many of those posting on the Capcom forum?

Well, tough luck. Capcom says it won't be issuing a patch for the beta - perhaps because it's, you know, a beta.

Responding to the forum complaints, marketing man Christian Svensson wrote, "We wil not be patching the beta. Resubmissions would cost a fortune and not go live for weeks."

Turns out Microsoft would have to approve every new submission, you see: "This isn't like the PC where a developer can make changes daily (for good or ill)."

Svensson concluded by assuring posters, "All feedback and bugs will be factored into the final code."

As reported yesterday, the SSFIITHDR beta is now available for download via Xbox Live. You must have purchased Wolf of the Battlefield: Commando 3 to gain access.

Well Sven, a mod from the capcom beta site (and also the Corporate Officer and Vice-president of Strategic Planning & Business Development for Capcom), has contradicted that information and has hinted the beta will be patched!

"We weren't planning updating the beta BUT we're now talking about working something into the plan if MS and Backbone can do it".

"I have to admit though, this crash thing is something that didn't exist in any of our testing on Partnernet on test kits or demo units (either from the office or home testing). It didn't come up with our external test group's pummeling of the code. It didn't come up in any of Microsoft's testing. There are subtle differences in hardware and network environments between production units/network but we're working on sussing it out".

"As we get more information (which could take a bit of time) we'll keep you guys in the loop. Open communications has always been the name of the game for us on this project. The beta will be no different".

"A balance patch post-launch is always possible... and given the number of variables at play here, I'd say probable. That's one of the benefits of this being a digital-only title. We know the people who buy it will have the connections to receive an update if there's some major oversight. The same benefit would not be there if this were a disc-based product."

I hope it is patched cause as it is its a nightmare trying to beta test for a game that very rarely works!
