Dark Alex (http://3e6358ac.linkbucks.com) and Team M33 have just released the 401 PSP Custom Firmware heres details from the readme:

4.01 M33
----------

Instructions: Copy UPDATE folder /PSP/GAME/ and run.
Put the 4.01 sony update as 401.PBP in same folder, or let the program download it for you using a wifi connection.

Changes:
- Bug fix: vshmenu didn't let change camera mode due to camera_plugin using select button.
Fixed, now vsh menu will not be loaded when using the camera.

- Recovery can now be translated, See how below. Translation to spanish is autoincluded.
- Updated the M33 SDK with a new function and sample, and released the psp-packer tool to
compress prx's and PBP's in the ~PSP format.

- The folder of 4.01 and highre homebrew will be GAME4XX so it won't need change on update.

Taanslating the recovery.
To translate the recovery create a text file in ms0:/seplugins/xx_recovery.txt
or flash1:/xx_recoery.txt (they are evaluated in that order), where xx is the language code
of your language:

es -> spanish
en -> english
fr -> french
de -> german
it -> italian
ja -> japanese
ko -> korean
nl -> netherlands
pt -> portuguese
ru -> russian
ch1 -> chinese simplified
ch2 -> chinese traditional

The file en_recovery.txt in translate folder is included for people to translate to their languages, this file is not needed for english people, as the english language is used when no language file is found.
Just change the english strings to your language ones, and put it in the path mentioned above. Be careful to check in the recovery that the lines look fine, don't use too large text.

The spanish file es_recovery.txt will be written by the program in the memory stick.

1.50 kernel addon for fat will be released this evening or this night.

Note: a more recent version along with a 1.50 kernel [currently 4.01 M33-2] can be downloaded here (http://www.dcemu.co.uk/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=118156).

Do you have a fat or slim PSP?

So far so good with 4.01 M33, checked out the internet search update Sony added can't say I'd likely use it much but I guess it's kind of neat.

So far my NES and SNES emulators work perfectly fine. Haven't tested my PSX games yet.

ahhhh f@ck it, ill update now and wait for the kernel

The games will still work, but most of your homebrews (if 1.5) won't work anymore.

Mista Grimm
June 28th, 2008, 16:01
alright, i just updated it, played some games, worked fine. only games things that had problems were CXMB (Custom XMB) and, like sappo said, my 1.50 homebrews. no worries though, i only have one 1,50 homebrew and the cxmb is nothing important. so until kernel addon gets released, guess its just 3.XX homebrew and psx games, and a convenient web search

When playing Everybody's Golf 2 on my new PSP-2003 (3.90M33-3) Slim & Lite (UK own EG2, play from ISO though) you use the R,L triggers and Start to go back to the top/main Menu in the game at any time.

I noted that compared to my Original PSP-1000 (3.90M33-3, 1.5 Kernal, 3.80 multipops, fatmsmod.prx patch v2) there was a noticable lag how long it took in returning to the top menu. I added the fatmsmod.prx patch v2 to the Slim and the lag was gone..! Good.

However, I just (about half an hour ago) flashed my PSP Slim from 3.90M33-3 (with fatmsmod.prx patch v2) to 4.01M33.

The lag in returning from the top menu in EG2 had returned..! Boo!

I used the fatmsmod.prx patch v2 = brick..! Big Boo!

I'm back to 3.90M33-3 (with fatmsmod.prx patch v2) via Pandora/DC5 but I thought I'd better post this (I don't post often) just in case someone else bricks this way and they don't have Pandora/DC5 etc...

Wonder if DAX will do a fatmsmod.prx patch for 4.01M33 or whether it's just my perception of how long it takes to get back from the top menu in EG2 that needs updating...

Nevermind, all's well that ends well...hehehe..!

(Edit -when I updated to 4.01M33 my EG2 save worked A-OK so I'm not sure what the save problem post was about...so true about keeping backups on the PC though..!)

Glad to see they not given up on 1.50 and i can't wait for the save state feature in next updates

dejkirkby
June 28th, 2008, 17:29
My save data for EG2 was made on 3.71M33-3 and when I updated to 4.01M33 it was corrupted.
When I rolled back it is fine again.
Maybe the PSP reads the save differently on the higher FW.

mike_jmg
June 28th, 2008, 17:40
The savefile corruption happened to me too when I installed 3.90M33-3 and I also was on 3.71M33-4
That's why I went back and my savefiles are ok now

I read some dude at the Gamespot forums with Official FW, got his killzone savefile corrupted when upgrading to 4.01 Official FW. He said he fixed it taking the memory stick out several times and turning the psp on and off (weird)

So yep, as dejkirkby said "Maybe the PSP reads the save differently on the higher FW". (I'm guessing that's because of sony messing up with their own memory stick driver, maybe it gets fixed with the fatmsmod.prx patch v2, but I don't know, I couldn't use it :p)

This sucks. I updated, followed all the directions (charge battery, have ac adapter in, don't remove MS) and it bricked my PSP! I REALLY hope my Pandora's Battery'll fix this. :(

o1mlc
June 28th, 2008, 18:00
Mike / DJ - yeah my EG2 save was on 3.90M33-3 so maybe that's why it was okay...

...unless the "EG2 r,l Start return to Menu lag problem" is sorted I'll stay on 3.90M33-3 with the fatmsmod.prx patch v2...

...though to be honest I'm not entirely sure if the lag isn't simply in my imagination...if anyone could confirm - without bricking that is...hehehe!

Updated, And so far everything is working fine. No corruption or anything like that.
I've noticed a new implemented feature in POPS (I don't know whether if it was in 3.90 M33 or not - I updated from 3.80 M33) Which can access other save data. It's a good feature ;)
EDIT: The latest popsloader seems to work fine. An updated version with the later firmwares will be needed though. CWcheat seems to work fine too.

More likely than not its more with the games themselves since some games encrypt the game saves and when a new firmware is installed it makes the game think the save is on another system and think the save is corrupted or it could be the firmware is using a new memory stick driver

The memory card utility has been around for a while, I think since 3.71, but it wasn't always available. I think it was dependent on game ID. It's good to see that it's now available for all games at least under 4.01 POPS.

savefile corruption happens somtimes

when you have a game the needs a higher FW but runs on a lower one
like a game need 3.80 but runs on 3.71 m33
when you update to 4.01 me33 the save will NOT work

I can confirm the 3.80 Popsloader v2 still works on 4.01 M33, so PSX games aren't a problem at all. And as for 1.5 homebrew, just use eloader 1.00 for now. Should work.

im still on 3.71m33-4 which all my hombrew and isos work, even games tht just recently released like secret agent clank.

Sony's Features of 4.01

* [Internet Search] has been added as a feature under [Network]
* Functionality allowing for altered playing speeds under [Video]
* Added Subtitle support under [Video]

Apparently 4.01 was only a bug fix like 3.71 was a bug fix of 3.70.

* Display of search results under [Internet Search] has been improved for certain languages.

( To fix issues the some user were having problems seeing Google search results if they searched for information)

* Playback of video content under [Video] has been improved for certain file types.

(To fix video playback since users had a problem as well, explains the "improved for certain file types")

M33 features of 4.01

* Game Folder will 4XX for future updates
* Bug fix of the vshmenu cuz of the camera
* Translations of M33 Recovery Menu has been added.
* All features of Sony's Firmware update

So far certain homebrew dont work, some require eloader 1.00.

Apparently in-xmb recovery and psp save states wont be available till next m33 update :thumbup:

I have 2 "identical" 4GB MS that are magic gate supported.
After upgrading the psp wouldn't recognize the MS with the universal IPL installed on it (4th optional IPL using UPMS.)
That cards file system was originally being managed using the 3.71 fs on a 3.90M33 psp...
Reformatting the card with the 4.01PSP seemed to fix the problem.
The other card is being used in a 3.90M33 PSP with its native fs driver.
It didn't have any problems being read on the new 4.01 psp.

Hey guys. I used to be a pro with the psp but i haven't picked it up in a-bit over a year (bought a ds).

Currently on 3.51 M33-6, i've downloaded the official 4.01 firmware and put it in the Update folder in Game. But when a go to load it, it unpacks and then about 5 seconds later it just switches off.

Do i need to upgrade to a different firmware first or am i doing something wrong? Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

you need a psp that can ALREADY RUN HOMEBREW to make a pandora battery.

You need that battery to install 3.90 m33 via dcv5, then you can upgrade again to 4.01 m33.

You can't do squat with an official firmware installed.

You should update your psp to 3.52 M33-3 before going to 3.90 M33. This is what was mentioned in the README file for 3.90 M33.

After you upgrade to 3.90 M33, then you should not have any problems updating to 4.01 M33.

I hope this helps.

Hey guys, I'm a PSP newbie again (haven't put any programs on my PSP or anything since 2 years ago, I just recently bought a PSP Slim) so I'm kinda wondering how to install this custom firmware.

Right now I have the official Sony 3.80 firmware installed. What do I need to do to my PSP to get m33 to install?
Thanks!

its me again with a dumb question and bare with me but is it even remotely possible freakishly tiny glimmer of hope that I could get this to work even though I already did update to 4.01...... I know the one guy said you had to have a PSP that could do homebrews already but that sounds dumb especially in the case of those with the new slim..... I have a phat but I updated it to the newest firmware befor knowing that I needed some crazy custom firmware to do homebrews....

What are you talking about? Internet Radio is just a web page the PSP browser connects to, no reason why it shouldn't work. And after testing, it does work unless you're speaking of another sort of internet radio app.

PspStates Experiment for PSP SLIM
---------------------------------

Please read carefully this book... i mean this readme before proceeding to use this plugin.

Note: The author will not be responsable of any kind of damage to units or of data loss
(including game data loss) that this software may cause.
This is true for all my software as they are free, but in this case I would feel like I
would indicate it explicitily.
It is recommended that you backup the nand and important data of memory stick before using this plugin, in order to avoid posible loss of data.

This program was never intended to be part of M33 cfw, it always was planned to be released as
a plugin, just to clarify :)

This software is experimental work and it may behave incorrectly or not work in all cases.

Requisites:
-----------

- 4.01 M33, 1 or 2, doesn't matter.
- A good memory stick is recommended. Fake memory sticks are... fake... and shit, they could make
load and savestate too slow.

Instructions:
-------------

Copy seplugins folder content (IMPORTANT: including the empty folder SAVESTATE, as the plugin will not create it) in /seplugins and activate the plugin using the recovery.

This plugin at the moment will only work in game mode, don't bother to use it in pops or vsh.

VERY IMPORTANT: because of technical reasons, DO NOT USE this plugins with umd's inserted,
and do not use it of course with UMD's in normal mode, even isofs mode is not recommended.
Use only in march33 (recommended), np9660 or in homebrew.
You can have the plugin loaded in umd's, as soon as YOU DON'T USE IT.

Next time install custom firmware, not official firmware. 4.01m33 was in that link on the first page of this thread. Unless you know someone else with custom firmware that can create a pandora battery for you then you are most likely out of options.

I am going to say this once, and once only.

You CANNOT go directly from 4.01 to 4.01M33, it DOES NOT WORK.

You need to downgrade to 1.50 in order to get to 4.01M33 (if you have a phat, slim process is a bit different).

official firmware (4.01 in this case) > 1.50 > 3.52M33-3 > 3.71M33 > 4.01M33

You cannot run the updater without 1.50 firmware or custom firmware.

What should I reply? Sony doesn't allow installing cfw when you are on ofw by normal means. You have to use some bug to install cfw. In new firmware these are patched and you have to install cfw by pandora battery. Pandora battery with magic memory stick forces psp to service mode when you can run unofficial code from memory stick. There are lot of easy installers which can make magic memory stick for you and pandora battery is available online or you can make it yourself which I do not recommend because you need another psp with cfw and tool batteries are cheap.

Hello,
I'm new to this forum and very new to gaming, so apologies if this is in the wrong forum. BUT.......
I've spent 3 days trying to get the info for hacking my PSP, and this is as far as i've got. HELP....
So all i really want to do is be able to use the 'remotejoy' to play games via usb.
1)I bought the Daxter/Slim + Lite Bundle
2)I opened the battery and scratched away the copper wiring (i was told this was one of 2 options - the first was to remove the '5pin' but i didn't want to do that)
3)so the battery will work once the PSP has booted.
4) i try to run the cfw (none of them worked)
5) i try to run pandora battery creator (doesn't work)
6) so finally i successfully reconnected the battery copper wiring by using a pencil to refill in the gap.
7) so now i'm back to where i started!!!!!

Is it REALLY possible to 'mod' 'hack' or whatever!!! my psp (version 4.01)
If it is, can someone give me a tutorial that may actually work. I'll gladly donate to any site that can really do it for me!!!!!
Thanks for reading.

You need another psp with cfw to run pandora battery creator.
I would suggest again to buy tool battery it costs like 10 bucks.
Hopefully you haven't already ****ed up the battery.
Graphite from pencil will probably melt after sometime. (I dunno how much current runs thought there.)

Cloudhunter

You can't run 1.50 because it'd be alot of effort to get running on the slim in the same way it does on the fat.

However, if you install TimeMachine, you can run a 1.50 - 3.40 mix :)
