Knowing how locked down the newer consoles are and the fact I may consider purchasing a PS3 later on, I have a question or two:

I haven't been following the homebrew scene much and was wondering how successful homebrew was on the PS3, has there been any significant progress or not?

Thanks if anyone can let me know or update me. :)

There are ways of playing homebrew on PS3.

You can use PS3 Linux and play non-3D emulators.

You can use PS2 Backwards Compatibility if you have an American or Japanese 20GB, 60GB, or (to a lesser extent) 80GB.

I think that PS3 will have a great homebrew scene though.

Thanks, so there is no other way currently to run homebrew on the PS3 other than going through Linux on the PS3?

Not yet unfortunately.
