I've been reading the posts here, and they mainly concern getting WADs to work. Well, there are several advanced source ports for the Doom-engine games currently in existence. As per the license agreement with iD Sofware, they are all open sourced. Perhaps one of the problems you all are having in getting mods to work is that a lot of them were not done for Doom 2 itself, they were done for the ports.

I won't say converting one of them would be easy; however, if it could be done, whole new vistas could open up for the lot of you.

For example, ZDoom allows slopes, hi-res textures and flats, ACS scripting (from Hexen), etc. It will run Doom, Ultimate Doom, Doom 2, Heretic, Hexen, Final Doom, and Strife. A large number of wads have been made specifically for this port, and map makers generally prefer it because of its sheer power.

There are others, of course, but ZDoom is possibly the one to port to PSP, as it really is one of the more popular ones. I'm fairly certain that the D64 mod was done for ZDoom. It contained lots of scripting and other things that only work with ZDoom. So, you would need ZDoom to run it, as it really isn't the same executable anymore.

Also, SkullTag is a ZDoom-based project that adds to the multiplayer aspect of Doom, including CTF, and adds new weapons, such as grenade launchers and miniguns. It may also be a good cantidate for porting to the PSP, as it will run everything that ZDoom can (though ZDoom itself is usually one step ahead revision-wise) plus the SkullTag wads.

I hope this helps you guys out.

Probably not, but it seemed best to put the idea out there. :)

I would think ZDaemon would be better to port. First, it runs better than Skulltag or the latest version of ZDaemon. Secondly, more PWADs are made for ZDaemon that don't work in Skulltag. Skulltag cannot run on a 400Mhz computer well, but ZDaemon runs excellently. And Skulltag may use too many specific calls to Windows, and it would take longer to rewrite. ZDaemon has a very good netcode, with unlagged code, so it would be ideal for adhoc multiplayer gaming without lag. I could go on, but these are the few points that are most specific to the topic.
