I have a Japanese (psp1000) model with Firmware 1.0, but am unable to upgrade to 1.5 (needed for a UMD Emulator). Each EPBOOT file I have tried (both US and, allegedly, JAP versions) just cause the screen to blank while the memory is accessed and then return to the main menu - no mention of 'Do you want to upgrade....' or 'Need to be connected to mains..' etc. Anyone familiar with this???

This JUST happened to me yesterday. Go to Settings > System Settings > Restore Default Settings. You will have to type in your user name and stuff, but the update will work. BTW, why do you want to upgrade to 1.50? 1.00 is easier to use. Just get Sei PSP Tool for your homebrew.

and make sure you are putting it into /PSP/GAME/UPDATE (all caps)

Make sure that there is nothing else on the memory stick besides the update.
