Please post a negative or positive if you use the MMSX to install CFW. There is a very small percentage of users that report problems. I would like to know exactly what this percentage is. The MMSX Root files have been downloaded 1736 times as of this edit and only a handfull of people have reported problems. I need you to post if it worked or not, if you cant atleast post a simple 'it worked' or 'it didnt work' then I would prefer if you looked elsewhere for a Magic Memory Stick. This mainly goes for all you 'guests' that dont even make an account...

The MMSX is a universal "unbricker" class MMS (Magic Memory
Stick) that (when combined with a Pandora Class Battery), will install
CFW (Custom Firmware) 4.01 M33-2 onto any PSP, phat or slim.
When using the MMSX it does not matter what firmware, custom or
official, your PSP is currently running. There is no need to
downgrade. If you have firmware 3.52 or higher, you must have a
Pandora’s Class Battery. If your PSP's firmware is lower than 3.52
there are other ways to install CFW, but that will not be discussed in
this guide and the use of a MMSX is still highly recommended. The
MMSX uses DC7, which allows one to regenerate the ID Storage on
your PSP. This means that if the ID Storage on your PSP is
completely wiped out or is corrupted that you will be able to fully
restore it. The MMSX does not just install CFW 4.01 M33-2; it comes
loaded with additional features

Note: This guide does not apply to the new PSP's that use a TA-088 v3 motherboard.
They can not be hacked, yet...

To install CFW 4.01 M33-2 using a MMSX you will need a few things.
A Pandora Class Battery
A real Memory Stick
A computer
A USB cable or a card reader/writer
And, the files in the links below...

Heres 8 smokin' hot wallpapers of Misa Campo. Their also included in the MMSX.

Karathacker's Theme Pack wont be pre-loaded in the MMSX, if so the
MMSX itself would be a HUGE download, sorry. But you can get it here:

If you have any question please read The MMSX Guide or post them here. Also, if anyone finds any errors please let me know so I can fix them pronto...

Thank you.. To everybody who helped me get this far... And, to those who played a part in the making of the MMSX.....

If your having the "green light/black screen" problem try switching memory stick brands. A member here said that two Sony memory sticks gave him probs, but a SanDisk worked perfect the first time...

:thumb: Please post something if you use the MMSX...

OK, stuff to look out for:
lethatproductions posted very late/early and no one got to him Q, but he followed up with some nice info very soon...

hey budd.. i tried installing it and everything works up untill i get an error message around 4%-5% saying pspPSARInit failed.. what am I doing wrong? I have a pandora battery and i follow the steps you wrote in your tutorial.. any help would be awesome.. thanks in advance..

Nevermind I fixed this issue.. for those who might come across this issue. Re-copy the Phat Root Files to the MMS by using a Memory stick reader, etc. and try again.:thumb:

Sens10 added this info to help other peeps with the same issue.

So I got it to work. For anyone else having the "green power light, nothing coming up on screen" problem, try a different brand of mem stick. I had the problem with 2 Sony mem sticks. I got a Sandisk and it's all working fine.

Though I did find a strange happening. I didn't see the 1.50 Kernel add-on when I opened the options on the mmsx. But it seems to work fine so far (I skipped that step without any problems). Thanks for the guide.
The reason he didnt see the 1.50 kernel addon is because he is using a SLIM, the addon is only for PHATS...

Umm, im sorry if its obvious and im doing it wrong but i got to the part where i use the Psp Grader and it came up with an error message after i clicked the "Inject IPL only". Screenshot included for help. thanks

edit: Sorry for troubling you, i figured it out. In case anyone else has this problem here what i did. In windows Vista its ********, i had to right click it and go into properties, and change the computability to run in windows XP service pack, save it. then run in administrator mode and click inject IPL then it worked.

im curious, why are the root files so big?

The MMSX comes LOADED with extras. Lots of plugins and applications are available directly after installation of CFW...

All the Additional software/apps/plugins are listed in The MMSX Guide...

Ok, what kind of PSP do you have?
What firmware was on it when you bought it?
Is you memory stick real or fake?
What size is you memory stick?
Did you inject the IPL Loader?
Did you use the correct files: slim/phat?
With no memory stick inserted what happens when you insert the Tool battery, does the PSP turn on automatically?
Did you have the charger hooked up when you tried the installation?

Sorry there are so many questions but unfortunately the most common problem during CFW installation is user error...

ok...

One cat in another forum said for his pandora battery to work he had to put the p-bat in, plug in the charger, and flip the switch while holding X (you should hold X for several seconds, atleast 5).

The only other two things I can think of is if you didnt copy the files right or you have one of the anomalies. Some peeps say they had to try like 20 times before the MMS kicked in, idk why but thats what they said.

btw, how many folders and files are in the root of your MMSX.

also my pandora turns my psp automatically is that supposed to happen????
sry for the noobie questions

theoneonlykid@yahoo
September 3rd, 2008, 21:49
when i injected the ipl im i supposed to have a trigger set?

p1220drs
September 4th, 2008, 00:47
OK, the battery does not have to be fully charged but I would recommend that it be atleast 70% charged.

Yes the P-bat should turn the PSP on automatically.

No, do NOT set a trigger with pspgrader. I have allready set a trigger for the installer (DCv7), it's X...

After you copy the files just insert the MMSX, hold X, insert the P-bat and dont let go of X for atleast 5 seconds...

Sorry but I dont think I'll figure it out.

I joined a forum a while back to learn how to install CFW, I used what's called The NextGen_MMS, it worked great but some peeps said they had the same prob you got now. When DCv7 was released I built my own MMS using DCv7 and tried to avoid the whole "green light, black screen, no install prompt" issue. My MMSX has been used over 200 times in less than a week and only 3 peeps so far have complained of this issue. Idk wtf causes this prob, and its very rare.

With the NextGen_MMS it was either user error or it just had to be done over and over again to get it to install. One guy said he tried 20 times before it worked and he only built the MMS once. Some with this prob say that if they leave the PSP on, take out the MMS, try to view pics or play music, then turn the PSP off, remove the normal battery, wait a few minutes, insert the MMS, hold X then insert the P-bat that it installs then. If they just kept taking the P-bat out and reinsert it quickly it took forever to get it running.

I really dont know whats causing this and it only happens to about 1% of peeps that use it...

p1220drs
September 4th, 2008, 03:02
Oh ya, one more thing...

Somebody said they tried install with the NextGen_MMS and the MMSX with no avail. But, they rebuilt the MMS and when they ran FakeCard they left the PSP version set at 352, said the install worked right the first try, its worth a shot...

Eh...not to sound like a total nOOb, but when can you put the original NONpandora-class battery back into the system, or do you at all?

Also, my friend wants me to mod his too. He has the piano piano black 2000 series which he bought a year ago, and I was wondering if this was phat or slim because I have the silver 2000 and mine is designed differently than his. Just wondering.

Thanks!

You can put your regular battery back in after it says "install complete, a shutdown is required, press X to shutdown".

If the last four digits of the serial number are 100x its a phat.

If the last four digits of the serial number are 200x its a slim.

Thanks man!
I assumed as much (for both questions). I just wanted to make sure before I ended up ####ing something up.

EDIT: Also, this may sound like a stupid question (and another one I'm already assuming the answer for), but is MMSX region specific? I remember reading that with some things like this you need a PSP of a specific region.

Hi, I have a fat PSP, OFW 4.01, A 1GB Memstick, An Ordinary Battery, and A P-Battery. When I do everything it says in the tutorial, and I place my P-Bat and memstick in my psp, I hold X, nothing happens. I try it again but I hold L, nothing happens. Not even the screen lights up.

p1220drs
September 24th, 2008, 18:11
What brand MS are you using?

Is it a real MS?

The screen doesnt even light up: Does the p-bat auto boot the PSP when you insert it, does the power light come on by itself?

comradvolk
September 24th, 2008, 22:02
I'm using a Sony Memory Stick PRO Duo, 1GB, Magicgate enabled.

Yeah, the power light lights up automatically.

September 25th, 2008, 00:14
Some peeps report this problem, not sure what the exact cause is though, its only about 1% that say this happens. Im trying to get this error ironed out.

Sometimes using a Sony ms causes this, idk why, but peeps stated that they had this prob with a Sony then tried the install with a SanDisk and it worked the first try.

If you have a Sandisk ms give it a go, it that dont work try the link below. It doesnt come with any extra plugins or apps but seems to be more reliable. Plus, if the Test Installer v1 works you could just copy the MMSX files to ms after the install and you'll be able to use the plugins and apps.

Download the Test Installer v1, extract the files, and copy all of the contents to the root of your memory stick. Backup and format your memory stick first though so you dont lose any important data. There is no need to run FakeCard or PSPGrader with the Test Installer v1. Also, with this method you should NOT hold X or any other button when inserting the P-bat...

Ok so recently I had to trade in my PSP because the LCD screen died and I didn't want to risk a home fix. Is it safe to say I wont be able to mod my PSP Slim because they sent it back a week ago and it will most likely have the new motherboard?

p1220drs
October 20th, 2008, 04:00
Well...

If they sent back YOUR original PSP with a new screen in it... I doubt that they put a new mobo in it too. If this is the case you should be able to install CFW

But...

If they sent you a whole new unit (which is HIGHLY unlikely) you might be S.O.L.. If you have a pandora battery and a MMS see if it boots from it...

I've registered to say thanks for this and give feedback as requested. Tried this on 3 'bricked' PSP 1000s using a 'hard mod' Pandora battery, the first 2 worked no bother and are back running :) the third has a weird fault which is probably nothing to do with the software. With the magic stick in and holding down X the power light comes on for about 2 seconds the goes out again - but only does that when trying to enter service mode. Without the stick in or without holding down x it power light stays on but no display of course.
