Tony Hawk's Underground 2 Remix (http://www.digizo.co.uk/details.asp?CatID=2&CatName=PSP%20Games&SubCatID=&SubCatName=&paging=1&ID=32) takes the best of Tony Hawk’s Underground 2 and adds four new city-levels — Las Vegas, Atlanta, Kyoto and Santa Cruz — that feature original goals, level changing events and unlockable characters. The first THUG for PSP, players can join Tony Hawk or Bam Margera on a World Destruction Tour where they nail tricks and pull off pranks in 13 single-player levels, or face off against up to three friends in 10 wireless multiplayer games. Players can also import their picture onto the PSP via any memory stick and map their face to create their own personalized game character.

Our Impressions

For us, the Tony Hawk franchise has always meant fun, challenging, rock-solid gameplay. Tony Hawk Underground 2 Remix continues this tradition, improving on the console version of THUG 2 in several respects. The gameplay of Remix is very strong, and very deep — there is a lot of extra stuff in this game to find on top of the already deep story mode. Controlling your skater is as smooth as ever, although we really wished that we could have used the analog nub as well as the d-pad to control our skater. The graphics on the game really impress. As Remix is a fast paced action game, framerate slowdown could have really caused problems, but we couldn’t find any. The camera was sometimes a problem lining up for tricks, but it wasn’t that big a deal.

Overall, we highly recommend the game to anyone that didn’t play the console version of THUG 2 and to those that played the game but are still thirsty for more. It’s mix of depth, fast-paced action, and wireless multiplayer make it one PSP title not to miss.

Pros: Very strong depth, tight controls, goes beyond the console version.

Cons: Sometime problems with camera, additions may not be enough for those that played the console version.

Review Round-Up:

GameSpot 8.5 (of 10)“Tony Hawk’s Underground 2 Remix is, first and foremost, a great game. But with its ability to successfully mimic the console versions, it’s an impressive technical achievement, too.”

IGN 8.7 (of 10)“THUG 2 Remix is a great portable game in that you can pick it up, session for a bit on the bus, complete a few goals and then flip into sleep mode when you get where you’re going. If you’re a fan of the series and are getting a PSP, you certainly should pick this up.”

GameSpy 4.5 (of 5)“If you’re aching for action sports on the go then this is the only game in town. That said, I don’t expect to see a better PSP action-sports game until Tony Hawk next visits the system.”

GamePro 4.5 (of 5)“It was expected—the release of Tony Hawk on the PSP. It was not expected, however, that Remix would bring so much to a portable system.”

Aggregate Rating: 8.8 (out of 10)
