I'll be glad to test this one until my eyes bleed, but I'm having trouble creating the .aes files. Please see my post under "NEO4ALL/AES alpha released."

Are these files:

ng-lo.rom
ng-sfix.rom
sfix.sfx
aes-bios.bin

the same as these ones:

NeoCD.bin
Neo-Geo.rom
Ng-Lo.rom
Ng-Sfix.rom
Ng-Sm1.rom
?
Do I have to rename the files or...what?!?

Forget neocd.bin and others, you need 'ng-lo.rom', 'ng-sfix.rom' and 'sfix.sfx' files of typical neogeo.zip (MAME or others) and a new 'aes-bios.bin' file, image file of NEOGEO home console bios.

here's my problem:

first i tried to convert the ROM to be able to play it with the emu: it gave me this message:

"No valid romset found for source rom file"

I told myself: "must be about the name of the rom files".

i extracted the rom files, opened the romrc file to check for the correct rom names, and renamed all the roms to be O.K.

tried to convert again, and he looks to go ok, but then, it stops, leaving this file: stdout

i open the file, and see this:

if this is gonna make any useful sense, the reports should contain

a list of the rom crc32s before 'convesion' with the tool

or alternatively

the source emu of the roms (no not a link) but things like is it a standard current MAME set or one ment for 'another' emu.

and it should be put towards a dat for Romcenter and/or ClrMame
(there is a distinct lack of dats in the DC emulation sphere imo.)

Tried with "Snk Vs capcom chaos", convert it without problems to svcplus.aes, when i launch the emu on my dreamcast, it launch fine, i load the rom, there's a long loading and in the end, the emulator's music stop and nothing append, it stay on the loading screen with the "loading bar" full.

Is this a neogeo bios problem or a bad rom problem? ^^

Thanx you ^^

TNX in advance :)

It is very strange, GFX have checksum error, try to load your 'svcchaos.aes' with NEO4ALL/AES emulator for Windows included.

By the way, i recommend try ROMS < 24MBytes first. Very large ROMS will run fine with prefetching methods, now only there are 10 games with preliminar prefetch. At future, i want build 2 new prefetch methods: by stage and by blocks.

Yes, AES files up to 10MBytes spends 40-50 seconds to load under Dreamcast.

I don't know what happen, i just try this ROM and hangs now, sorry. But i have played yesterday without problems, there are a stupid bug. I will try to patch this today.

REPEAT: By the way, try to load your AES with NEO4ALL/AES for Windows first.

I didn't find the bios files required from the same emu, i find "sfix.sfx" and "aes-bios.bin" from a mame emu, "ng-lo.rom" and "ng-sfx.rom" from a neoragex emu, is this ok ? ^^'

I don't know it, Shikigami, try to use NEO4ALL/AES for Windows first.

About svcplus ROM bug, there are out of memory error, i don't understand it, but try to toast NEO4ALL/AES without neo4all/aes.mod, works ok.

Verify if you can to write on directory where you have rom zip and enough space. Also, try another game, maybe 'svcchaos' not work yet.

Ok chui, without the .mod, svc chaos works great! :D

For a first alpha release it's impressive ^^

Each time a sound is played for the first time, the dc load so there's little "lags" even when u turn the sound off in the emu menu, and looks like there's some other little problems (can't choose my character on arcade mode or my opponent in training mode)

Great work !!! waiting for the next releases! ^^ (and the others prefetch :p )

OK, I opened the file "romrc" and see this readout for SVC Chaos:

game svcplus MVS "SNK vs Capcom - SVC Chaos"
SFIX 0x20000
svc_s1.rom 0x0 0x20000 NORM
END
SM1 0x40000
svc-m1.rom 0x0 0x40000 NORM

SOUND1 0x1000000
svc-v1.rom 0x0 0x400000 NORM
svc-v2.rom 0x400000 0x400000 NORM
svc-v3.rom 0x800000 0x400000 NORM
svc-v4.rom 0xc00000 0x400000 NORM
END
CPU 0x600000
svc_p1.rom 0x0 0x600000 NORM
END
GFX 0x4000000
svc_c1.rom 0x0000000 0x800000 ALTERNATE
svc_c2.rom 0x0000001 0x800000 ALTERNATE
svc_c3.rom 0x1000000 0x800000 ALTERNATE
svc_c4.rom 0x1000001 0x800000 ALTERNATE
svc_c5.rom 0x2000000 0x800000 ALTERNATE
svc_c6.rom 0x2000001 0x800000 ALTERNATE
svc_c7.rom 0x3000000 0x800000 ALTERNATE
svc_c8.rom 0x3000001 0x800000 ALTERNATE
END
END

Now, I see that in my svcplus.zip, all the roms are there but they're named 269-c1.rom, 269-c2.rom, etc. In theory, if I rename the roms in romrc to match what I have in my .zip file, that should work, correct? Also, if it helps, my svcplus.zip is 41,080 kb in size in the "details" viewing mode, and under the "properties" of this file, the readout is this:
Size 40.1 MB (42,065,015 bytes)
Size On Disk 40.1 MB (42,065,920 bytes)
I included this to compare with others to ensure I have the right file.

I've read here that SVC Chaos is having some problems, but then I see that Shikigami has got it working... I'll try smaller sets tonight after I get off work. Thanks for all the help so far.

everything about that was checked. and it's ok. it must work. i see another user saying that's OK! :\

ng-sfix.rom - 128ko

Hey, tried the emu (which is great work, thank you chui and all the other people involved for this and neo4all itself) this morning and when I had the correct rom and bios files tried converting romsets and burning it to test it.

I seem to be getting probs with some stuff noone else has reported. Using what as far as I know are standard mame rom sets I've tried Blazing star, Captain tomaday, neo bomerman, neo mr do, samurai showdown/spirits and waku waku 7. All apart from Captain tomaday, Neo Mr do and Samurai showdown have corrupted graphics from the main neogeo title screen on. I've tried them on the provided pc emu aswell and they do the same thing.

I realise several of these games aren't on the list of games said to have been tested, but I thogh I'd try a few different things and see what happens. Don't know if I'm the only one getting similar problems (the zipped romsets work in mame), or if its a known problem.

Anyroad, glad it works, thanks for the release, just curious why its behaving like this and if there's anything I can do about it.

When using the converneo I get the error 'No found bios rom file' The rom itself has been read correctly (it is a mame rom). I have the AES bios etc all in the convertneo\bios dir

this doesn't use mame roms, it's an AES (home system) emulator. the roms are much harder to find, because there are only a handfull of emulators for it and there is no reason to play it over MVS (it is basically the same system, without an rtc and easier difficulty settings).

ok, so i made this little Explorer trick, and i was able to: before the converter deletes the AES, i get the AES being used, so the program could not delete the file, and closed, leaving the file.

i tried the convertion on the Windows version and i got some problems:

- the BIOS graphics where corrupt, along with some of the game GFX as well, not to mention that the letters of the game menu, and everything else like life bar, power bar and any letter, don't appear. :\
- I can't select the character i wanna play with.
- some sound glitches... don't know if it's from the emu or from my PC slowdown...

I tried using some other roms such as Metal Slug X and I get that same error. Shikigami, did you have to rename anything to get your SVC Chaos to work?

The problem with the 'No valid romset' could simply be that the ZIP file you have contains a bunch of things, one of them being another zip with the romset in - this happened to me - check the contents of the zip, if one of the items inside is another zip (in directory 'roms' for example) try extracting that and use convertneo on it.

Also, I noticed that people are adding the neogeo bios files to the ZIP files they are trying to convert - this is not the way it works - you put the following 4 files into neo4all_aes-alpha\windows\convertneo\bios\

aes-bios.bin (131,072 bytes)
ng-lo.rom (65,536 bytes)
ng-sfix.rom (131,072 bytes)
sfix.sfx (131,072 bytes)

Now, CD to neo4all_aes-alpha\windows\convertneo and run:

convertneo <romset.zip>

(eg. convertneo C:\TEMP\SHOCKTRO.zip)

The aes file is written to the same directory as the original zip - in the example above, it would be C:\TEMP\shocktro.aes.

To test it on Windows, copy it to neo4all_aes-alpha\windows\roms, CD to
neo4all_aes-alpha\windows\emulator and run neo4all_aes.exe. Now, from the main menu choose 'Select ROM', go into 'roms' and select the aes file you just produced.

Finally, from the main menu select 'Run'...

I do all of that, Have correct neo roms etc but still get the message 'No found bios rom'

The neo rom is fine and it converts that but it then looks at my neo geo bios roms and it does not work.. These are the ones I use for Mame

Help!

Txs Fox & Chui for this emu ;)

-For the people

The most problem of convert roms is that roms are of MVS no AES!!!! Or have other CRC, please... found the ROM in AES or... wait for next versions because this version is a alpha.... ;)

Other problems... more people say... when i use the convert program i've the Bios error... this is for the same... you've bios of Neo Geo MVS! not AES! ;)

-For Chui, Fox and others developers of this N4A/AES

I test SVC and... GREAT! :D

Only I found a small problem and this night i prove it burn again the CD with Dummy file for this is the error. The problem that I say is that in the intro of SVC all time is loading the CD and the intro is stoping all the time and when I play is the same but..... when I eject CD in middle of fight.... no have this problem... the game is a fullspeed :D but when I do movements that i not do after this are see pixelateds. Only is say of the conclusion that without CD the game no is stoping all the time. "This is not critic... is only help in the develope of emu ;)"

Txs! ;)

PD.: Sorry for my english :P

this doesn't use mame roms, it's an AES (home system) emulator. the roms are much harder to find, because there are only a handfull of emulators for it and there is no reason to play it over MVS (it is basically the same system, without an rtc and easier difficulty settings).

No, i use normal roms what i ran with other emulators: GNGEO, NEBULA and MAME.
I think that convertneo not support some encripter roms and today we need no-encripter roms.

About BIOS, it is easy, uncompress neogeo.zip from MAME on bios/ directory and find aes-bios.bin (128KBytes) and copy it too.

I will try have more filters and correct messages for next convertneo releases.

Thanks to everybody !

I have tried the games Blazestar and Pulstar (on windows and DC).
Both are unplayable because of heavy graphic troubles. In Pulstar neither Background nor sprites are drawn correct. In Pulstar I cannot even recognize the ships or the air route. But the fonts in both games are perfect.
(In Mame the roms are working)

Could the problem caused by my version of ng-lo.rom?
It's actually a 128 kbyte version. Because I couldnt find the 64k version I edited the file in a hex editor and deleted the last 64k. This should actually work. Somewhere I read the new 64 k version is just the same dump as the old 128k and the first 64k are identical.
The crc checksum for my edited ng-lo.rom is E09E253C.

Meanwhile I found the file 000-lo.lo. Assuming that must be the right file I renamed it to ng-lo.rom. The crc-checksum is also E09E253C. But the same happens with this aes in the emulator.

What could it be?

The problem is that each version of MAME uses different romsets, gneogeo depends on dat files, and nebula ususally depends on the newest mame definitions.

Slybeast - I didn't have to rename anything, maybe you should try others svcplus.zip files until you find a good one, it'll be faster than renaming everything each time...

So far, I've tried Metal Slug X, Shock Troopers, and Art of Fighting.

No problems converting the first two games, but AoF gave me the "No valid romset found for source rom file" message. Didn't bother with it, and burned the two other games.
Metal slug X runs at good speed, but has some lang during the game while loading from the CD. Shock Troopers runs even better, with hardly any lag.

Great job!

The problem is that each version of MAME uses different romsets, gneogeo depends on dat files, and nebula ususally depends on the newest mame definitions.
Nebula uses external dat files, and there are lots and lots of them about
(plus you can make your own) which confuses things even more . . .

if decrypted (non-encrypted) sets are what's required -

(this is for the layman not Quazar)

download WinKawaks (http://cps2shock.retrogames.com/ Kawaks 1.55 is the latest) load the standard MAME set with 'Enable save decrypted Cs after loading' selected in the Tools menu.

load the game, wait a moment for it to start the attract mode or what ever, pause and close the emu.

open the Winkawaks folder and there will be a load of decrypted C roms in there plus a new S rom, use these instead of the original encrypted Cs

it doesn't help with encrypted Ps or Vs which occur on later games,
but there are other tools around which will handle that.

example -

game (
name mslug3d
description "METALSLUG 3 (decrypted)"
cloneof mslug3
romof mslug3
rom ( name ms3n_c1.rom size 8388608 crc 3540398c )
rom ( name ms3n_c2.rom size 8388608 crc bdd220f0 )
rom ( name ms3n_c3.rom size 8388608 crc bfaade82 )
rom ( name ms3n_c4.rom size 8388608 crc 1463add6 )
rom ( name ms3n_c5.rom size 8388608 crc 48ca7f28 )
rom ( name ms3n_c6.rom size 8388608 crc 806eb36f )
rom ( name ms3n_c7.rom size 8388608 crc 9395b809 )
rom ( name ms3n_c8.rom size 8388608 crc a369f9d4 )
rom ( name ms3n_s1.rom size 524288 crc 2628d663 )
)

the non-encrypted Ps from set mslug3n would be added to this along with the V roms and the M rom giving a fully decrypted set.

PS. for mslug 3 there is actually a 128KB S rom that will work crc 8458fff9 (this set with the 128KB S rom will work in NeorageX which only supports 128KB S roms) but the 512KB rom is more correct but i don't know if you'll get that out of WinKawaks, its not the tool i use.

this is just an example as to how to construct one fully decrypted set from a MAME rom set

chui, can u plz check if still there are checksum errors? and help me with this error 10 thingy?? tnx in advance! :D

ok, so i made this little Explorer trick, and i was able to: before the converter deletes the AES, i get the AES being used, so the program could not delete the file, and closed, leaving the file.

i tried the convertion on the Windows version and i got some problems:

- the BIOS graphics where corrupt, along with some of the game GFX as well, not to mention that the letters of the game menu, and everything else like life bar, power bar and any letter, don't appear. :\
- I can't select the character i wanna play with.
- some sound glitches... don't know if it's from the emu or from my PC slowdown...

Someone help plz??? :\

Tried only Shock trooper.

Works ok, but i've used the Kawaks xbox romset, cause the mame one not working. I think it's a little slower than the real game, but it's wonderfull to see that on dreamcast !!! (And it's only an alpha !!!!)

Only one problem, but that's not a bug, but an hidden request, my ps2 neo geo pad plugged in the DC with an adapter haven't the button in the good order ! :D :D :D

Thanks a lot for this release Chui !

Tested the following, based on 15-20 minute playthroughs:

Burning Fight: perfect w/sound on

Magician Lord: good enough, music is screeching, sound FX and voices are fine, though

Ninja Combat: same as Magician Lord

Ninja Commando: (EDIT) with sound, it's perfect. However, there is no music.

The Super Spy: a little slow, sound is similar to Magician Lord's

Puzzle De Pon: tried it under the same conditions as Ninja Commando...same results as NC.

Fatal Fury 2: a little slow with sound on (not too bad). Somehow, hit detection gets messed up in the second fight with the CPU (only throws can damage either player), and the fight timer lasts for two seconds in the third fight with the CPU, making it impossible to even get a round in.

Samurai Shodown 2: a little slow at times. A player facing to the left will sometimes warp back to the right when running towards a right-facing player.

Fatal Fury: good enough, save for the occasional warping problem as seen in SS2.

Sengoku: almost perfect, save for a little slowdown and some very minor sound issues.

NeoBomberman: good enough. No music.

I'll edit this post with further tests if possible.

I use DEMOMENU, and Utopia Boot, but nothing happened, please anyone can tell me how?

Some tests

Ghost Pilots
Stage 1 plays nearly perfect. To the end of the stage some flickering in the shadows of the clouds.
Some strange sound behaviour as of Stage 2. A sound effect (don't know which one) plays uninterrupted one single tone.
As of stage 3 the background music is missing. And as of stage 4 more sound effects are vanished (e.g. no sound of player's aircraft). The whole game becomes "silent" more and more but keeps playable all the time.

Metal Slug X
Lots of slow downs because of loading while playing. For short times (less than 1 sec) the game freezes because of the loading.

Magical Drops 3
Sound effects sounds "clanking". A few slow downs while loading. Despite of that the game stays playable all the time.

View Point
Plays perfect as I can see it. No strange behaviour in sound or gfx.

Last Resort
Perfect.

The program roms of this game are protected. Because this protection is not emulated in Neo4ALL/AES, it will always do this on the second fight.

Hey Chui, I think it would be a good idea to pick definite romsets, sizes/crcs to work with your emulator. There are many hacks/bad dumps/etc of Neo-geo roms.

I didn't find the bios files required from the same emu, i find "sfix.sfx" and "aes-bios.bin" from a mame emu, "ng-lo.rom" and "ng-sfx.rom" from a neoragex emu, is this ok ? ^^'
Hi,

Shikigami, you need those files:
http://img118.imageshack.us/img118/7392/neo4allbios7kg.png

You must rename:
ng-sfix.rom 128k (354029FC) to sfix.sfx 128k (354029FC)

drcacho, last year 29 Neo Geo roms changed in MAME 0.79u4 (and WinKawaks v1.49), here is the list of those roms:

3countb.zip - Neo-Geo 3 Count Bout / Fire Suplex
aof3.zip - Neo-Geo Art of Fighting 3 - The Path of the Warrior / Art of Fighting - Ryuuko no Ken Gaiden
bjourney.zip - Neo-Geo Blue's Journey / Raguy
blazstar.zip - Neo-Geo Blazing Star
goalx3.zip - Neo-Geo Goal! Goal! Goal!
kabukikl.zip - Neo-Geo Far East of Eden - Kabuki Klash / Tengai Makyou - Shin Den
kizuna.zip - Neo-Geo Kizuna Encounter - Super Tag Battle / Fu'un Super Tag Battle
kotm2.zip - Neo-Geo King of the Monsters 2 - The Next Thing
lastblad.zip - Neo-Geo Last Blade / Bakumatsu Roman - Gekka no Kenshi, The (set 1)
magdrop3.zip - Neo-Geo Magical Drop III
mslug.zip - Neo-Geo Metal Slug - Super Vehicle-001
neobombe.zip - Neo-Geo Neo Bomberman
neodrift.zip - Neo-Geo Neo Drift Out - New Technology
ninjamas.zip - Neo-Geo Ninja Master's - haoh-ninpo-cho
pspikes2.zip - Neo-Geo Power Spikes II
pulstar.zip - Neo-Geo Pulstar
ragnagrd.zip - Neo-Geo Ragnagard / Shin-Oh-Ken
rbffspec.zip - Neo-Geo Real Bout Fatal Fury Special / Real Bout Garou Densetsu Special
samsho3.zip - Neo-Geo Samurai Shodown III / Samurai Spirits - Zankurou Musouken (set 1)
samsho4.zip - Neo-Geo Samurai Shodown IV - Amakusa's Revenge / Samurai Spirits - Amakusa Kourin
shocktra.zip - Neo-Geo Shock Troopers (set 2)
shocktro.zip - Neo-Geo Shock Troopers (set 1)
sonicwi3.zip - Neo-Geo Aero Fighters 3 / Sonic Wings 3
ssideki4.zip - Neo-Geo Ultimate 11 - The SNK Football Championship / Tokuten Ou - Honoo no Libero, The
turfmast.zip - Neo-Geo Neo Turf Masters / Big Tournament Golf
twinspri.zip - Neo-Geo Twinkle Star Sprites
tws96.zip - Neo-Geo Tecmo World Soccer '96
wakuwak7.zip - Neo-Geo Waku Waku 7
whp.zip - Neo-Geo World Heroes Perfect
wjammers.zip - Neo-Geo Windjammers / Flying Power Disc

So if you try to convert the new "SONICWI3.ZIP" (Aero Fighters 3 / Sonic Wings 3) from MAME/WINKAWAKS/FBA/NEBULA set to SONICWI3.AES you will get bad graphics. You have to convert this old version:

http://img287.imageshack.us/img287/8238/sonicwi38kf.png

For the list above of 29 roms, you have to take them from WinKawaks v1.46 set (before MAME 0.79u4).. It's the same for Blazing Stars, Goal! Goal! Goal!, TWS96 etc...

ROMBuild [MAME v0.80 special]

Déjà Vu ;)

Codex

Hi miko ;)

Yes, that's the case, because I first converted the "new" ("new", here in accord with latest MAME PLUS (www3.emu-zone.org/host/mameplus) & Winkawaks v1.55 (http://cps2shock.retrogames.com)) Neo Geo roms, then tested NEO4ALL with those "convertions" of SONICWI3, GOALX3, BLAZSTAR and I had bad graphics... So I decided to convert my "old" Neo Geo roms (from WinKawaks v1.46 and before MAME 0.79u4), and with the old roms it works fine on NEO4ALL.

Just in case is there a frontend for the "ROMBuild [MAME v0.80 special]"?!

Thx :)

Não choras M Dash... I didn't had your ERROR so I don't know... M Dash do you have "ERROR -10" only for svcplus?! Or with other games too?!

You should have a "fully decrypted" rom named like this "svcplus", and your roms should be named like those:

svc_c1.rom
svc_c2.rom
svc_c3.rom
svc_c4.rom
svc_c5.rom
svc_c6.rom
svc_c7.rom
svc_c8.rom

svc_p1.rom

svc_s1.rom

svc-m1.rom

svc-v1.rom
svc-v2.rom
svc-v3.rom
svc-v4.rom

Here is a pic of the svcplus.zip I used for NEO4ALL:

http://img227.imageshack.us/img227/8647/svcplus5yz.png

svcplus has the same C'roms as "svcnd" in WinKawaks 1.48/dev...

Are .ips patches allowed here?! In order to change the CRC's of some roms... Thx :D

hi (S)Codex !
i wasn't doubting you, it's just a turn of phrase :o

afaik no frontend has ever been made for ROMBuild,
it's pretty easy to use as i remember though.

good postings btw, will have sorted out a lot of sets for people :)

hopefully i will be testing all this out shortly, i'm having a few issues with my main rig and i'm currently on backup :(

miko.
PS. i'm doin fine IQ, well except for the above :p
this new emu has peped my interest recently,
Neo-Geo on Dreamcast? How could I resist. :D

Hey Chui, I think it would be a good idea to pick definite romsets, sizes/crcs to work with your emulator. There are many hacks/bad dumps/etc of Neo-geo roms.+1 for iq_132 ;)

We should start with a Winkawaks v1.55 ClrMamePro.dat (http://www.savefile.com/files.php?fid=9174476) & some good Fully Decrypted Sets...

ok, soo i checked the ROMS, I have 2 versions: svcc.zip and svcplus.zip
now, skip the svcc.zip
i checked my svcplus.zip and my M1, P1 and S1 rom files are diferent according to your CRC32 :S

anyways: when my ROM was downloaded was renamed like: example: 287-m1.bin

this is just an example: the actual name of the files where NOT these.

anyways: i renamed the rom, and gave me that error :S

tried the rom KoF2003.zip too... renamed the files to be according with the romrc file.. but it gave me this error too... the only rom that didn't gave me error was the Sonic Wings 3 (old mame set)

i can i fix this error without having to download the FULL ROM set again?? :S

someone plz help... and it would be great some help about KoF2003 as well... despite the fact that ther is no PREFETCH.

I changed romsc to match these names. This was a NeoRageX romset, with 269_xx.rom type names.
Now it converts fine to .aes and plays woderful in neo4all-aes.exe for windows.

Also, i overwrite aes-bios.bin by uni-bios.12 renamed like it. And voila, the game was changeable arcade/console :D

OK, I finally got this working. Here are my results for games played:

2020 Super Baseball: Very playable, but suffers from very slight music slowdown during the intro. Almost perfect.
3 Count Bout: Graphics moderately garbled, also has some hanging/loading; somewhat playable.
Aero Fighters 2: Very playable, with very slight music slowdown and hanging. Damn near perfect.
Aero Fighters 3: Somewhat playable, with moderately garbled graphics.
Aggressors Of Dark Kombat: Moderately playable, but the sound/music emulation is horrible. Long loading/hanging when you perform a move you haven't yet in a match.
Alpha Misson II: Very playable, with slight music slowdown/sound distortion.
Art Of Fighting 2: Barely playable due to severely long loading. I also had the screen go black on me but could still hear the action in the background.
Art Of Fighting 3: Severe hanging/loading. Garbled graphics (mainly sprites) make this one unplayable.
Art Of Fighting: Very playable, with slight music slowdown. Near perfect.
Baseball Stars 2: Very playable, with very little music slowdown. Almost perfect.
Baseball Stars Professional: Some distorted sound/music slowdown, mainly when you're on mode select; very playable in-game.
Battle Flip Shot: Very playable, with barely noticed music slowdown. Almost perfect.
Blazing Star: Severely garbled graphics and slight hanging/loading make this one unplayable. No music either.
Blue's Journey: Very playable, but the music/sound emulation is horrible.
Breakers: This one would be perfect if not for the moderate hanging/loading. Quite playable.
Burning Fight: Very playable, with very slight music slowdown.
Captain Tomaday: This odd game seems to be perfect.
Crossed Swords: Very playable, despite horrible music/sound emulation.
Cyber-Lip: Very playable, with moderate music slowdown/sound distortion.
Double Dragon: Very playable, with slight hanging/loading.
Eight Man: Very playable, with slight music slowdown.
Fatal Fury - King Of Fighters: Very playable, with slight music slowdown.
Fatal Fury 2: Very playable, with slight music slowdown/sound distortion.
Fatal Fury 3: Somewhat playable, with heavy loading/hanging.
Fight Fever: Very playable, with slight loading/hanging.
Football Frenzy: Somewhat playable, with moderate slowdown.
Kabuki Clash - Far East Of Eden: Unplayable due to severely garbled graphics.
Metal Slug: Graphics severely garbled; unplayable.
Metal Slug 2: Severe hanging/loading; unplayable.
Metal Slug X: Medium hanging/loading; somewhat playable.
Mutation Nation: Very playable, but suffers from slight music slowdown.
Samurai Shodown: Moderate hanging/loading; somewhat playable.
Samurai Shodown II: Medium hanging/loading; somewhat playable.
Samurai Shodown III: Graphics severely garbled; unplayable.
Samurai Shodown IV - Amakusa's Revenge: The NEO-GEO bios loads (garbled), but then it displays a black screen with red letters that says, "WARNING - BANK ERROR."
Super Dodge Ball: The NEO-GEO bios plays over and over again; unplayable.

I have Metal Slug 3 but it doesn't convert to .aes. I see that there are a few different versions of this one (encrypted/decrypted) and I'm not sure which one I have or which one should be used with this emulator.

These games were also tried with the Windows emulator included in the NEO4ALL/AES download and showed the same results.

My disc structure for DC was/is:

NEO4ALL/
ROMS/
1ST_READ.BIN
IP.BIN

...and it loaded just fine. ;) I used BootDreams 0.6 to create the DiscJuggler image.

I will continue to post more results for more games as I convert and try them.

Questions/Comments: I believe a few posts back someone mentioned removing one of the .mod files for increased compatibility...is this true? This emulator is in great condition for an alpha release. Thanks to all who worked on it, and I'm looking forward to more compatible future releases. :)

Here are the results of my own tests, it can be used to complete other compatibility list (it needs to be centralized):

(note: I make an homebrew ip.bin with sizious' ip.bin creator then I use the Echelon Method to make my selfboot disc)

I'm posting to say that FINALLY I was able to convert the roms skiping that ERROR -10 message. How I did it?? simple..

I WAS IN A WINDOWS 98 OS!!

I installed the Windows XP, and now, it converted OK!!!

:S Now THIS is kinda plain weird, right?? I mean: the converter only works OK in Windows XP, in Windows 98 gives this ERROR message!!!

I return the charge, thanks to all for interesting to test this first alpha version. But you must know what happen with alpha versions, i can't answer questions that i don't know it yet: working bioses, rom sets, etc...

We have to get a convert-tool that works fine, add encription methods and new romrcs rom description file (thanks Kairo Hayime, change romrc is the way).

This night, i will share a special neo4all/aes for creating initial prefetchs for large games.

I haven't win9x and i don't know how compile for it.
Convertneo and uae4all/aes for windows are cygwin/mingw32, really both are SDL/C, i think that it must compile with microsoft development toolkit, but i am not a windows guru, sorry.

Tony, no one should trash you for asking a question. None of us were born knowing how to do this; we all had to learn at some point. :) Anyway, if you look back up a few posts and follow the directory structure examples people have posted, you should be able to get it to burn properly. You do have a general understanding of how to burn DC images, right?

FOR ALL:

TO BURN THE CD:

First, you must get a IP.BIN file (easy to get) AND a NEOCD.BIN file (Neo-Geo CD BIOS -> not needed for the emulator, but needed for the tool to create the CDI image, fast and easy).

Then, a quick and simple way to do it:

Get the tool: NeoCD/SDL DC Selfboot 0.2 -> http://www.consolevision.com/members/fackue/prj_ngcdselfboot.shtml

With that tool, all you need to have, is the IP.BIN and NEOCD.BIN in the same directory as the 1ST_READ.BIN file of the emulator. Leave the NEO4ALL directory there too. Put your AES's in the directory where the 1ST_READ.BIN is. You can optionally put the AES files inside another directory, but that's at your choise.

If you have everything ready in the directory, open the tool.

It will pop-out a window asking you the directory. Select the directory of the emulator.

After selecting the directory, it will show you a window with 2 buttons.

"Scan directory for correct files"
"Create DiscJuggler image" -> not available yet!

Click the SCAN button. It will scan you the directory. If everything's OK, it will tell you that "The scan completed perfectly".

Click the OK, and the button to create the image must now be enabled.

Just click that button, and the CDI image file will be created.

After the creation, just burn the CDI with DiscJuggler or Alcohol 120% or any other program that supports CDI image files.

You can also convert the CDI to NRG (NERO image) if you don't have the necessary program to burn the CDI, but you have NERO Burning ROM.
That tool can be accessible here: http://www.consolevision.com/members/fackue/downloads.shtml

;) Good Luck!

OK, I had time to try more games tonight. Here's my results:

Galaxy Fight - Univeral Warriors: Acts like it's going to work fine, but then the screen goes blank during the fight. You can still hear the action going on, but you're staring at a blank screen. It sounds like it's running full speed.

Ghost Pilots: Runs perfect. Maybe slight slowdown in music occasionally, but it's hard to notice.

Goal! Goal! Goal!: Seems to run fullspeed, but unplayable due to severely garbled graphics.

Karnov's Revenge - Fighter's History Dynamite: Very playable, despite minor loading, graphical glitches, and music slowdown.

King Of The Monsters: Same as Ghost Pilots.

Last Resort: Same as Ghost Pilots & King Of The Monsters.

League Bowling: Slight slowdown during the intro, but runs fine otherwise.

Legend Of Success Joe: Same as Ghost Pilots, KOTM & Last Resort.

Magical Drop II: Same as Ghost Pilotsk, KOTM, Last Resort & LOSJ.

Magical Drop III: Same as Goal! Goal! Goal!.

Magician Lord: Seems to run fine, but the music/sound emulation is horrible.

Money Puzzle Exchanger: Same as Super Dodge Ball; the bios loads fine but then the screen blacks out and reloads the bios over and over again.

I hope this helps. Cheers.

Holy Crap It works! Thanks to the dude that suggested the program! That neogeo logo on my 36" HiDef screen was the sweetest thing Ive ever seen. Please please please please to the author of this program DO NOT STOP WRITING THIS thing and making it better! I have never see such talent! As a true Neo fan I will tell you its frustrtating to not be able to play such truly great but unsung games such as neo driftout or viewpoint! All the props and remakes on other systems go to KOF Sam Sho Metal SLug, etc. We have these. I own a XBOX. Lets get the unsung heroes some console time! A+++++ This thing rocks! Also support for single disc booting with auto load of options and rom would give it a great feel and not make me feel like Im doing domething dirty, which in my case Im not, as I own a MVs arcade machine and hardware. Merry Christmas to all and to all play this damn AES emulator! If this thing ever gets as compatible and speedy as nester dc Ill wet myself. ANd I only want it to play 8 meg or smaller games I mean i dont expect it to play SVC Chaos on a freakin dreamcast. The poor thing bogs down on Mario 3 for gods sake. My rant has endured long enough. Whomever the author is, you rule. Anyone has a problem with this emu, you gotta go through me first!!!!

Windjammers - Plays 100% w/ 0 frameskip and normal / normal
Top Hunter - Plays 100% speed but skips fram every few seconds, even when set to 0 frameskip normal/normal. Otherwise fine.

neo driftout works excelent for me! some music bugs, but not big thing.

I finally got to try SVC Chaos just now. It's somewhat playable, but the in-game loading is very heavy. Also, when I lost and went to the continue screen, it blanked out from that point on. I could still hear the action, but no screen. Once all this is sorted out it looks like we'll have a fully-functional version of SVC Chaos to play on Dreamcast!

Thanks M Dash. ;)

1 - DON'T ASK FOR ROMS!!!
2 - just read the other posts and try to fix your roms. it must be some kinda CRC error or renaming.
3 - any rom that you find WILL shurely work. you just simply don't know how to make it work.

ROMs backdate?? :\
I don't think there is such a thing... It's all about renaming the roms!
You must be talking about renaming the romset so that complies with the OLD names they had. like: the roms in NeoRage, instead of being numbered, they are named.

the recent romsets are numbered. that tool he's talking about must simply rename the roms from a name to the number it corresponds.

Quem sabe quando sair um up do emu as coisas fiquem mais faceis para todo mundo, porque é muito decepcionante você passar um dia inteiro procurando roms, renomeando, convertendo etc para no final não funcionar...
Vamos aguardar, então... :(

Sorry M Dash, but you are wrong... We were not talking about some NeoRageX roms... read page 7 of this thread.

It's not just about renaming the roms... 29 Neo Geo games were "redumped", (only the C'roms) since MAME 0.74u4 and WinKawaks 1.49... (At this time NeoRageX was dead...) With ClrMAMEpro you can "rebuild" those 29 old roms (before 0.74u4) to actual MAME roms and with ROMBuild [MAME v0.80 special], you can "convert" those new 29 Neo Geo roms (only the C'roms of each game) to old Neo Geo roms before MAME 0.74u4 and those 29 Neo Geo roms don't run in NeoRageX, except if you rename them from -xx.bin to _xx.rom...

^^ -> first off, i ALWAYS used NeoRAGEx and the emulator was always GREAT!!! it can have some problems with roms sometimes, but in the end it turns out GREAT!

P.S.: se vc fala portugues, pq n posta pa mim em portugues??? :\

now: about those redumps: why did they redumped the C's if the old roms worked OK?? didn't understood why they did that...

anyways: about neodriftout - if that rom was redumped, then it was a mistake to do it, because i have the OLD version on my NeoRAGEx and it works GREAT with both NRX AND NEO4ALL/AES.

about the tool: i didn't know that existed. sorry about it. i was wrong indeed! :P

Yes, NeoRageX is great for little configs, like a PII 233mhz, it runs very well, but with higher configs I prefer use MAME/WinKawaks/Nebula or FBA...

In order to have same as possible original data... you are right they run well, but not all (and we were not talking about pure NeoRageX 0.6b roms). NeoRageX roms are harder to find nowadays, beacause there are no more "official" updates of this emulator...

my PC goes OK with MAME and Kawaks and such... but i always prefered better NeoRAGEx, because it's more easy to handle and play, AND runs always full screen - full FPS :P anyways..... i just asked about the portuguese... got a little confused, but in that case ;)

about the Cs... you mean like: the first dump, had some little lost data, soo to fix that they just redumped the roms later to be the closest to the original as possible, right?? like in Daytona USA 2 - the first dump got bad, but now that they dumped the Power Edition they are able to fix the BotE version with the ROMs from the PE version.

The first Neo Geo roms, where -> MGD2 (Multi Game Doctor 2) <- (http://www.robwebb.clara.co.uk/backup/bung/bungmgd2.html) dumps (you can compare it with .smc "Super MagiCom" roms...). That's why some roms where redumped (yes to be the closest to the original as possible). :)

Um it looks like you guys are talking about a program to fix the roms, but I only speak English so if you could repeat if its important... I have gotten magicain lord to load, and I have used both dumped sets of roms that I have found, and it plays (hurray!) but the sound is really screwed up. :( Any chance of fixing this in the rom or is this an emulator fault? ALso anyone can tell me how to successfully use these prefetch files? I have put them in all the directories with the roms but when I load metalslugx or blazingstar it acts just like any large file (ie it crashes or either has garbled graphics after load.)

Help?

1 - yes, plz read the posts with attention before posting.. because about the fix tool, we are speaking english.
2 - if the sound of that game is screwed up: OR the emulator doesn't support the ROM at a decent rate to be able to play sounds correctly, OR the ROM sound files are corrupted/damaged.
3 - about the prefetch files.... plz read the READ-ME file of the emu, ok? it's NOT supposed for you to HAVE the ROMs with the prefetchs in the same directory. don't change the structure of the emulator files :\

1. I cant understand the english that was spoken. I have downloaded Romrenamer tool .80 for neogeo files and followed command line structure of romrenamer mame NAME OF GAME as it suggested. It always says nothing to do. Even when I put all the files where they are supposed to go (the in_roms) dir and even when I know its a rom it is supposed to correct (blazing star) but it doesnt find anything to do.
2.My specific question was on Magician Lord, if anyone knows if this is a problem in the rom (where I should keep looking for a good copy) or an emulator problem (where I should just give up until the next version)
3. There is no documentation in MY readme file about the prefetches other than it supports 10 games with prefetch. It doesnt say what to do with the files or if they must be merged wit hthe roms, or where to put them or how to load them. I kept the prefetches in ALL directories just to be safe and Mslugx crashes the emu and blazing star has garbled graphics and I just wondered what I am doing wrong.

In addition. Thanks to anyone who did try to help me. No thanks to those of you who didnt, or who just want to treat me like a fool. I am a casual user of these programs and do not spend nearly as much time with this as you guys do. I was able to fix the romconverter problems that you guys seemed to have without any outside help, so I must not be a complete idiot. I have fixed several of my own games. I a mjust having troubles with a few that are important to me, and wanted assistance. I am sorry if that is too much to ask. It seems to me that everyone on these boards is concentrating on games which this emulator will NEVER realistically play! I mean SVC Vs Capcom Chaos Blue? How much do you think you can get out of the dreamcasts dinky amount of ram before it just kicks the bucket and croaks? If you want to do something useful then you should like me concentrate on making or perfecting these under 16 meg files (mainly the ones under 8 meg) so that we can have a fullspeed emu for somethings. No matter how much prefetch you add you will never play SVC vs CAPCOM at fullspeed with no framskip and no lag. The DC processor is too weak and the ram too limited. Not to mention the uselessness of trying to perfect something that already has ports on several major consoles. Where can you buy a copy of Ghost Pilots or Magician Lord for your XBOX? NOWHERE. That is what we should be concentrating on.

Thanks again to the author of this wonderful emulator if he reads these posts. I think this is promising! Cant wait for your next version!! Hope it comes swiftly I will check dcemulation.com every day!

Thanks to the Kairo who wrote the updated or hacked version of romrc. I couldnt understand one word in your post but downloading that file made several more of my games convert properly, so kudos!!!!

I wont bug you guys again since I seem to have upset you so.

first off, SvC IS AT full speed emulation. the only thing that keeps it are the MID-FIGHT loadings... if that is fixed, the game will run great!!
second: i'm not treating u has a idiot or something. i simply tryed to help you with your problem!
about the prefetchs, when u convert a ROM, the prefetch is automatically added to the AES ROM. try to convert e ROM without prefetch. if you check the LOG, you'll se a message saying: "WITHOUT PREFETCH!"... If the game has prefetch, it won't say nothing. so don't mess with the directory structure or prefetchs, because they are already ready to be used.

Everyone is talking about how these games are running "fine". I can't get anything to run without a lot of memory skipping unless I turn the sound off. Is this pretty much par for the course? Plus, how do I integrate these prefetch files into the roms so that I can get the larger games to run "fine"? Right now they're decidedly less than fine and I don't notice any performance difference between larger games with prefetch files and those without.

Otherwise great work, keep it up, wish I was smart enough to contribute more than criticism...

The games DO run fine. Try running the AES's on Windows, but if they run bad, run them on the DC. they will go great! Integrate the Prefetch files?? oO;
they're automaticaly added to the AES files when you convert them with the converter!!!
If you don't see diference... that's because of your PC. anyways: on the Dreamcast, most of them run great!
About the smart comment..... I won't say anything... you just judged yourself... nobody told you nothing about it.

Alright now that i got the thing working using that tutorial i'm going to mention here the same as what i did in the tutorial post. There is some bad load times in SVC Chaos not just during the 1st battle it can also occur on the next battle. I find with pressing pause and letting it sit for a bit updates the loading a bit.

You can however select your character which people are complaining about and you do it by holding start and using the D-Pad to select your character. However i wouldnt say this is totally playable yet nor is this emu in a playable state its new so lets wait until further updates instead of complaining about new releases. By the way the emu is great for a new release.

First of all: Thanks Chui and Fox68k for these jewels you guys are making.

My question is about the Windows version of NEO4ALL AES. How exactly it works? What is the right directory for the bios to be put in? No matter what I do I always get a blank screen with a BGM when i double click on the icon to run the emu. There's no way for me to choose a game. Why is this happening? Are the results with the win version the same with the dreamcast version?

I'm on a Win2000 pro (updated) PC. My bios files:

neo-geo.rom -> renamed to aes-bios.bin
ng-lo.rom
ng-sfix.rom
ng-sm1.rom -> sfix.sfx
All files are with the correct size(128k, 64k, 128k, 128k respectively)
(all my roms have been converted by using these bios files)

Thanks in advance for any help. Happy new year for everyone!

Tested roms list, using First Alpha Version:

Burning Fight
Perfect gameplay, just some sound lags, normal.

Fatal Fury
Works fine...

Fatal Fury 2
So much lags while reading ROM during the game. In the 2nd battle you can't hit the opponent, and vice-versa (you can hit him only with trow). In the 3rd battle the time clock stars at just 2 seconds and makes impossible to hit the opponent in time.

Fatal Fury 3:
Frequently a blank (black) screen appears, losing all graphics. Just sound stays. This makes the game unplayable.

SNK vs. Capcom Chaos:
Impossible to choose any character at Arcade Mode (the cursor don't move, staying at Kyo).

Today i will test more ROMS!

actualy, you CAN choose another character besides Kyo in SVC CHAOS.... just press the start button and the cursor will start randomizing the character... just go trying until the cursor stops on the character that you want, and then select it...

Yes, very large games like SVC Chaos is not playable because there are a lot of page fliping, Dreamcast have 16MB and SVC Chaos is a game >80MBytes.

I finally tried out Beta 1 with ROMs from the latest MAME romset. I used prefetches when possible and removed extraneous emulator files to free up valuable RAM as well.

The following games were near perfect:
2020 Super Baseball
Aero Fighters 2
Baseball Stars 2
Battle Flip Shot
Eight Man
King of Monsters
Last Resort
League Bowling
Magical Drop 2
Nam-1975
Thrash Rally
Wind Jammers

The following games had graphical errors and may be playable with an older romset:
Aero Fighters 3
Magical Drop 3

The following games had loading issues and/or graphical errors and are basically unplayable:
3 Count Bout
Fatal Fury 2
Kabuki Klash
Last Blade 2
Metal Slug
Metal Slug X
Samurai Showdown II
Shock Troopers
Street Hoop
Top Hunter
Turf Masters
Twinkle Star Sprites
Waku Waku 7

What is the romset needed? The "Neoragex" or the "MAME"? One of these does not work under the other's emulator.

I tried renaming my SVC, but no success. I have that "No valid romset found for source rom file", all the time, I'm getting upset.

Any help?

By the way, I just love Neo4all, that NGCD emulator. It really rules! I never thought I would be able to play older KOF in my DC.

I'm sending Chui's page to everyone I can. It's really a lot amazing.

I do want to test AES4all, since there's no "Rage of the Dragons" released for the NGCD.

Thanks for Neo4all rc3, I've tested it with Fatal Fury Real Bout Special & Real Bout Fatal Fury 2, both games works great, there's a minor bug on RBFFS when you finish a fight (the score lines stay written and the screen goes black), but excellent stuff, you can play these games at two players with no slowdowns!!! Great Work! For Metal Slug 1 & 2, there's a lot of slowdowns, especially when you hold a continuous fire, and the game with two players is very slow. Do you think it can be impoved again (it seems there was a lot of improvment between RC2 and RC3 for MS)?
Thanks a lot!

Hello !

There's a couple of bugs I've spotted in convertneo :

after a check using valgrind :
in file "convertneo/src/fileio.c"
on line 177:
int len = strlen(path) + 15;
the buffer is too small, causing a couple of overflows which could sometimes crash.
int len = strlen(path) + 32;
This fixes the problems and prevents the crashes.

Also, for some reason, in "convertneo/src/neoaes.c", in the function "load_aes", the alloc's are optimized out by the compiler (both the pre-built binary available on the website and my own) but the corresponding "free" is still called leading to a crash (maybe a compiler bug ?)

On a different subject :
I managed to get MetalSlug 4 working, but I can't get the music. I have a decrypted m1 from the MAME romset but I don't know which option I should use.

Here's MAME's original config :

I managed to get MetalSlug 4 working, but I can't get the music. I have a decrypted m1 from the MAME romset but I don't know which option I should use.

I also had the same problem here, but it seems to be an emulation issue (yup. I didn't read the source code). I'm using this config:

# MAME set of mslug4
# decrypted C, S1 and V ROMs
# no BGM, uses S1 from NeoRAGEx 5.0 a9446774 since the original 512KB S1
# has a lot of GFX bugs

I've tried downloading the ROM and loading it with the emulator SS7 007 Beta R7, but the MD3 RAR file only had the mp3 files and some ISO file that I have no idea what I'm supposed to do with.

I found my original CD for Magical Drop 3, including NeoRageX and a bunch of other games, but I think you need Windows 98 to load it right? I'm using XP. Is there any way to still play MD3? Would it be a good idea to try installing '98 to play?

Thanks for reading!

I would just love to play SS2 on my Dreamcast.

I've been reading many walk thrus. I simply cannot figure this out. I have the .zip with the ROM files for SS2. I've downloaded Neo4All.

Unfortunately, I have absolutely no idea what to do next.

I cannot find the necessary files that are necessary.

I have read thru the 'SelfInducer' walk thru and I am lost.

I have downloaded the RC3 package, extracted the files into their own folder. I have search for, and found some of the mentioned files:

* aes-bios.bin (128KByte) -- found this
* ng-lo.rom (64KByte) -- did not find this
* ng-sfix.rom (128KByte) -- found this
* sfix.sfx (128KByte) -- found this

Someone, please help! If I am mixing up tools, or just going about this the wrong way, please let me know.

Thanks!
