r4 and ez flash 3 in 1 gba save problem

well i been trying to be able to save my gba games but soon as i turn the d of my saves are gone i been using exploder I have tried several different games but they don't stay on there the saves any way i tried patching them also that didn't work is there a guide that explain the problems I'm having with step by step and i also read there is a battery or something but can someone please help me sorry for the trouble

also i tried both nor and psram

I might just not know what I'm doing at all
