help for newbie

Hi I have just bought our boy a PSP, it came with demo and a few games and 1GIG memory card, i can download games but i have no idea how to get them onto the PSP, I am a bit worried about messing with the consuls files in case i loose any of them,any advice will be welcome , i am not sure what version it is or how to find out,please put me right,, yeahhhhhhhh my very first post :)

if you just bought a psp, then for now, you cant play any non-official games on it. if its psp3000 that is.
