Acekard flashcart running on a Nintendo DSi.

The group behind the Acekard flashcart series seems to be the first to get its unauthorized carts running on the DSi despite Nintendo’s anti-piracy measures on the system.

Though the team loaded both commercial ROMs (yarr) and homebrew programs in a “lab” environment, Acekard claims that “it is almost impossible to make a commercial product,” indicating that the DSi was hacked internally before booting up the flashcart.

Says the team (non-native English speakers):

“There is a major problem that can’t be resolved, at least for now. It seems DSi did many sanity checks to make sure there is no more fcards.

We assume there are more that one modes on DSi, we still haven’t found any way to access the SD card slot in origin DS mode.

We will keep researching, and good luck to all.”

I think this is really cool! Soon we (maybe) will be able to run DS Homebrew, on the DSi, with our flash carts! It does only work in the lab at the moment, but they're trying to fix it so they can make a commercial release!
