How do you get gpSP to save?

Ive been playing on Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow for a few days now, and it's not saving. The memory stick light flashes when i use a save room, but when i go to load a file, there's no progress saved. Yet games like Spiderman 3 has been saving.

How do i get Castlevania: AoS to save?

Use "save state". It always work.

I do, but that's no good for Castlevania because i can't play any of the unlockable modes because the game doesn't know i've completed it.

I can't understand why that doesn't save yet games like Spiderman 3 and Mario vs Donkey Kong do =/
