Hey, I just bought an acekard 2 and while I'm waiting for it to come in the mail, I thought I would stock up on the apps and games I wanted to play on it. But there's so damn much homebrew that I have no idea what I want.

What homebrew apps or games would you recomend that I download?
Thanks in advance.

EDIT***
Just to keep it semi-organized, I figured I would make a list of the apps/games already recommended.

DSOrganize(File manager and web browser)

NeoDS(NeoGeo Emulator)

Powder(great rouge-like dungeon crawl game)

jenesisDS(genesis/megadrive emulator),

Lameboy(gameboy emulator)

ZXDS (spectrum zx emulator that is highly polished despite being in beta)

Some are more difficult to get working then others.

NeoDS requires quite a bit of research and acquiring mame ROMs

No problem, I had all the links in place but somehow I hit the back button and lost them all.

Oh well, keep in mind the versions of each should be the most recent.

I have an acekard 2 and I don't use the official firmware on it. I was having issues with a game not working and switched it over to a firmware called AKAIO and it's worked wonderfully. A good website (for ds homebrew AND AKAIO) is http://gbatemp.net/index.php?showforum=172. Up on the top they have a download page where you can get a lot of the homebrew that was listed.

Awesome, thanks for that piece of advice. I had no idea there was additional firmware as well.

Yes it has pretty faithful sound emulation and excellent speed. Compatibility is pretty damn good too. :)

This works perfect on my R4.

yeah, real nice. too bad for picodrive, visually it was very good, bot w/o sound wasn't that playable.

now I can play streets of rage, contra and sonic on my DS :)

Here's some that I've found fun/useful that I thought I should tell about.

Moonshell - For obvious reason (mp3 player, video player, apps that come with it) and NOT obvious reasons (Makes reading ebooks extremely easy. And personally preferable to books. )

Beup Live - Msn Messenger for Slot-1 devices. Works great (except you cannot message cell phones)

Bunjalloo - Great homebrew browser. Better, even, than Nintendo's (opinion) And does not require mem expansion.

DSCompress - Allows you to unzip files on your ds reducing the need to plug your micro sd into your computer. Just download via bunjalloo or
DSOrganize and unzip on the ds. Very Useful. Not sure if it works on other types, like .rar, but definitely for .zip

SVSIP - Phone on your ds (You heard me) pretty cheap too, free if you can find a good one.

GAMES

Lemmings DS - Do you remember that old game lemmings, yeah, it's a homebrew now. I would like to shake the hand of the genius that made this one. Works flawlessly.

Amplituds - A guitar hero type game where you press buttons in sync with the buttons on the screen to make music.

Codename hacker - a puzzle type game very fun

Drons - Remember the movie TRON? And the light cycle races - exactly

MegaETK - Megaman type game, kill stuff, get money, buy upgrades, kick ass.

Pocket Physics - Draw stuff and watch gravity take effect and interact with the other drawings. Very fun. I played this for hours yesterday.

Xrick DS - Old Pc Game Rick Dangerous on the ds.

The people that make these things (In my opinion) are better than the ones that NINTENDO have working for them.

- Alekmaul's AmeDS : Amstrad emulator with On the fly WiFi game download

- DSdoom : a must have if you own Doom or Doom II

- DScent : Port of the first Descent game. Best DS port ever in my opinion

- StillAlive : Great remake of Portal flash

Here's what I've found to be awesome.

Apps:

jenesisDS (http://www.workingdesign.de/)
(amazing Sega Genesis/Megadrive emulator, games run smoothly, with sound, high compatibility for roms, probably the best emulator app for the DS)

SNEmulDS (http://www.snemul.com/ds/)
(best SNES emulator, games run with sound, decent compatibility)

nesDS (http://www.racketboy.com/retro/nintendo/nes/2008/03/best-nes-emulator-for-nintendo-ds-nesds.html)
(best Nintendo emulator, high compatibility)

Games:

Lone Wolf DS (books I and II) (http://www.projectaon.org/staff/frederic/index.php)
(beatifully made DS versions of the "choose your own adventure" style games in the Lone Wolf saga, I didn't think that a book ported into a game would be any good, but I gave this a shot and found it ridiculously addictive and fun, very very well made)

Anguna DS (http://www.tolberts.net/anguna/)
(fun Zelda style action RPG with SNES style graphics and gameplay, great art and level design, by far one of the best DS homebrews available)
