Kamjin has been hard at work and releases another game for your enjoyment, heres the news from the great man himself:[br][br]A port of the Game Rogue.[br]Since I got lucky, and got a hold of some older source code, enough for a test release. With a DC Keyboard it's pretty much playable with a few annoyances, some minor bug, and missing features. Enjoy and if you find any problems that aren't listed let me know over at DCEMU, or DCEMULATION. [br][br]Download this new game at This Page (http://www.dcemu.co.uk/roguedc.shtml)

lol from looking at it, it might be one of those old type of Text RPG's with a little guy on the screen or it might be the one i used to play when i was younger where you have to go into rooms and find keys and kill enemies i cant remember

There's actually a newer build of the game that doesn't need the
keyboard, as well as other fix-ups/enhancements, I had put it up
literally minutes after the news about chardemo was posted.
Until it's mirrored you can grab it off.

Rogue is what started all the following
Moria, Hack, Nethack, Angband etc..

your job is to make it down to level 20, get an
amulet, then make you way back to the top
it's pretty much the "mother" of RPG's

Take a look..

the first one had controller support aswell?

Kamjin
July 13th, 2004, 07:45
Test release.. was mainly to find any real bugs..
The controller could only move the character..
(u/d/l/r) you couldn't
do any commands from the controller, so you'd
kinda be stuck on level 1,

The new one has all the commands accesible with
the dpad, and triggers, so it's 100% playable

.. the only thing missing is saving.. in a sense it's
not a major thing since you can't reload save's
after you die, they're mainly intended to let you
stop and continue later.. I haven't created code
to check how large a save file will be , so I'm
holding off on enabling it, until I'm 100% sure
of how big they can get, and I can check before
I write to the vmu.. so no one ends up with those
nasty missing block problems..

You just reminded me also.. I'm down to 1 disc!
but burn it on a multission disk, or a SBI disk.
Something with a boot menu. when you die in
the game it has to exit, so if you got some sort
of menu program you can easily start it up again
without the hassle of a reboot.
I've actually scrambled the file, and made a self boot
disk with the game (and several others) along dchakker
and use it as the boot menu.. all in one disk ;D

I need to make a list of games that need SBI's. I know this one should be on there. Eric - is there any chance you can put together a list of recently released games that should be made into SBI's and PM it to me, please? I think I already said I needed to make one of chardemo, too. I'm not sure. It's hard to keep track. There's so many new games coming out.
Nice work kamjin - I look forward to trying it out, along with your others, once I get SBI's made.

Its an old disk but i can see what i can do on the weekend the only reason why is i work nights and i like working on the whole thing at once

okay also i did try making fenix into sbi i couldnt get that to work and some other games i dont know why and some other games worked but i think they were all the games i downloaded

Curt,
Chardemo probably doen't need one, it's more along
the lines of a code demo on how to emulate a "text"
display.. the compiled demo kinda looks like a text
adventure but you can't actually do anything.. it
always responds "I don't know how to.."
might be a good april fools joke though..

Rouge definately needs a SBI, also I don't think one
was make for magnetic,
MagenticDC with the game files.. only takes
about 5-6MB so it could use one also (only catch on that
I hardcoded it to look at the ROOT of the CD for all
it's necessary files.)

There should be an SBI of Fenix on Sbiffy!com already. I did one a while back, and it appeared to work just fine. The only problem was that it was PAL-only, so I couldn't successfully play any of the games on my NTSC Dreamcast. They all seemed to load fine, though.

I will try to remember to get both of those done this weekend.

I've been begging for the longest while for someone to take up the task of porting Nethack.

I'm very excited about this. ;D

when you die in
the game it has to exit
Would it be difficult to remedy this?

Nethack would be nice, but as some people mentioned before.. it probably won't happen, or at least it will have to be crippled down since there isn't enough space to handle all the saving that's done.. at least there's finally a Rogue ;D

Not for a little while.. I need a good bit of time to print out
all the code, and go over it all and comment it..
There's too many variables scattered about, I had tried.
I took care of most of the globals, and some static ones.
but I couldn't find them all. if you restarted a
few times you could easily finish the game. My quest
to fix it still hasn't finished. I've placed it back in the
queue. I still want to incorporate tiles from nethack
get the saving to work, and have it be able to restart
on it own. I'll leave that for the short future. Since I got
a bit of free time this last week I've been trying to finish
up all the projects I started before I forget the code.

Hey that is great! Does that mean that since Moria
was a derivitive of Rogue that we might see Moria one day? Or even Angband? How about Larn or Omega while you're at it. :D

Is there any chance you can put up a finished CDI or NRG like you did with RISC?

Actually I was thinking of doing a dreamcast port of an old dos game that I wrote. Is it complicated? How would I get started?

Thanx for any advice

Eric I've placed a selfboot discjiuggler image here
http://www.dchomebrew.org/kamjin/files/roguesb.zip
(cut n paste the above line into the address bar)
it uses a dreamloader menu.
after you burn/boot it simply select
0ROGUE_SCR.BIN (it should be selected by defalult)
then click on open.
When you have to restart simply click open twice.
