View Full Version : Broken Dreamcast (No Video)

I've been messing around with getting my Dreamcast online for the past few days, but I was unable to. Today I hooked up my Dreamcast to a TV closer to my main computer. I usually plug my Dreamcast into my VCR's "video in" jack, but today I accidentally plugged it into the "video out" jack which I believed fried my Dreamcast's video output. When I turn it on now all I get is audio and the disc spinning up. I've tried it with both a coaxial and RCA cord but both had the same results, so I know it isn't the cords. It was working fine this morning. Is there any way to fix this and did plugging it into the "video out" jack have anything to do with it breaking?

That wouldn't fry it.

Did you take apart your Dreamcast?

I just went bargain hunting at my local flea market. I got a Dreamcast without any cords and a Dreamcast with all the cords and 2 controllers for $20. The one Dreamcast had a broken GD-Rom drive when I opened it to clean it, so I switched the drive out of my broken video one. I now have 2 Dreamcasts that work and one that will be used for parts because it is broken in more way than one. I still wonder why the video would just fry itself like that but at least that Dreamcast will live on in one way.

Sorry for the late response man.

If you haven't figured out what the problem was yet, then I think I have an idea of what it is.

While you were putting it back together, you might've put the wrong screw in the screw hole around the top-center of the board. It screws right into the motherboard and practically kills video output. This is how I killed my 2nd Dreamcast! :(
