Hi Guys,
This is (yet another) firmware modder/flasher.
I wrote it primarily for a quick way to apply my own firmware mods, delete the gameboot movie like pspset does, and remove the XMB menu wave effect like Flashmod does. It can write a Custom Font, and use any firmware version as a version tricker. There is also a complete Registry Backup and Restore Tool biult into this version. The two features above are both firsts I think As always, I have tested every function of this program with one of my own 1.50 PSPs. (X-Flash V7 all functions tested 6/4/06).

Be sure to read the text file included with this package. A future version of this program is supposed to operate like the XMB menu. (ie. selection of fonts, selection of sounds, selection of version numbers, etc.) There is significant improvement in program operation for V7. Future versions will require less memory stick space.

Tried it seems ok as with all progs that write to FLASH there is alwayz a risk so use at your own discretion and follow instructions to the letter,and they should be no probs.

Hi Guys,
X-Flash V7c is available.
I don't know if I've posted here before, but to answer a few Qs/ coments...

Current versions of X-Flash will not start on any other than 1.50 version
firmware. This is to prevent people with other version PSPs making a costly
mistake. The registry backup tool might work on other versions, but you can't
currently launch the program at all.

As of V7b, X-Flash is currently the safest way to perform the version spoof
to play 2.00 games,
since it verifies each flash write operation. I don't know of any other PSP
flash writing program that does this. The verify is currently only implemented
in the version changer, but will be implemented for every flash write operation.

With this release, everybody can have a Version 13.37 PSP :)

Lastly, Version 1 was never supposed to be distributed due to it's inability to
remove the modifications that it makes. I request that it be removed from
all servers.

Stupid Question: Have you tested any 2.5 or 2.6 firmware required games with this? If so, did any work? Also, you did say that it can restore to the default 1.5 firmware, correct? I did not notice these two items in question when I read the readme. Thanks for this great app, Art. Keep up the good work.

great program art, can you tell me how to edit the error sound , no disrespect, just wanted to try some other sounds, i already used pspmenuedit to get my own bootsound back, just not sure about the error sound. Realy nice to get rid of the sony logo, maybe in the future this could be a stand alone option, again no disrespect the startup sound wasn't to my taste, and to lose the sony logo you must take your startup sound. Anyway all round fantastic program. OK im getting carried away , is there anyway to change the boot text?

say i spoof it to FW version 9.99 and exit to go play a 2.00 required game, will it allow me to run X-Flash again to restore it back to 1.5?

X-Flash is smart enought to detect your real firmware version even after using the spoofs.

boot sound? the sound the psp makes when it goes to that White PSP screen just before a game loads, right? Boy, I used this thing and didn't see the option to create a backup, so I delete the boot movie which I thought in fact deleted the gameboot movie (kinda like the Psix transition from interface to game; no movie at all, just right into the game) so anyway, I freaked out b/c I realised I hadn't created a backup and I knew by removing this previously, it caused problems with my GTA playability, so when I realised it only removed the sound again, I though "Uh oh" b/c I didn't think I had backup. Luckily, I had done this once b4 and kept the file from PSPset and just chose to make the file hidden on my ms0. I found it an reinstalled with PSPset.

Moral of the story: Either make backup b4 you get too excited to skip that step, or ART - make yourself easier to find at your website. I couldn't find you at all, so I couldn't email you while I was freaking out.... But then again, I didn't think to PM art here b/c I didn't know he was a member. I made my d/l from QJ.

Yeah, or you could just press circle to restore to original like it says at the bottom of the screen.

The 'Boot sound' is the sound the PSP makes when you turn it on.
The gameboot movie is the movie with sound that gets
played when launching a game.
Both of these options, if changed, can be restored to original
like everything else that is changed by the program.

Art by please you respond me a question is very important, I am spanish, forgive if me do not I explain very well, my question is I have a font modified and all perfect, but if I go oh the adjustments of the system and in the menu of seleccion of languages if I look at the Russian language leave me the characters badly leave me represented as boxes, therefore well I do not dare oh to select it for itself not if it is able pricked my psp, I it eh tried with the emulation with mph fw loader and eh selected the Russian language and functioned me perfectly without no error all perfect but leaving the characters represented as squares, and did not they leave correctly but not the psp was blocked at no time, and could sail in all the options perfectly, so my question is really ahi danger and the psp can die if I select the Russian language with a font modified in the real flash? or would pass the same thing that in the emulation that functions perfectly but the characters leave done not recognize, please is very important for my and for all the people and if there the danger that dwells my psp therefore I uninstalled me the font modified, thanks by your answer

please you respond me because if this was dangerous I would not put a fonst modified, my opinion is that would not be damaged me the psp since if does not give me no error in the emulation would not have that to give it in the real flash, but with which not it itself really therefore I ask oh the teachers and X flash creators, greetings and I expect an answer since I have a lot fear and insecurity on this theme, thanks

edit, my fw is 1.5 jap, and that would pass me if to re-establish the values predetermined of manufactures having a font modified? the language will leave in jap there would be some problem and would be able to die my psp? greetings and thanks

Be very careful what external files you use with X-Flash.
Make sure new fonts are .pgf extension, and make sure they are tried and tested.
An invalid font can brick a PSP, and I hear that if you use a gameboot movie that it too
long it can also brick the PSP.
The Coldboot Vag file is the safest thing to change yourself.
X-Flash makes sure the Vag file header and footer remain intact,
and it doesn't matter if there's garbage inbetween, the sound won't be good,
but the PSP will be ok.

I have uploaded Version 9c to address an issue where the user gets many
"VERIFY FAILED" false alarms.
Anyone with either V9, or V9b, should delete them and use V9c.

well them abandonment some sounds of start, opening_plugin. rco of matrix and of velocity, created by my, all they incorporate a mixture with the phrase of playstation portable of the voice of European nanny goat, this very well they remain very interesting, and another also with the phrase in the end and the voice of snake of the metal gear when dies in the play, this very well also, I expect that he like, and groins I am spanish. greetings and thanks, art

There are seven reasons for getting the boot, and the exit screen tells you why you got it.
You didn't say which one.
If you didn't alter the zip package then it's probably because you don't have 1.50 firmware.

what makes a bad font?
is there a size limit for files?
or are there other factors to look out for, such as missing characters?

There are fonts with missing characters, and some appear so big that there's no room
for some of the dialogue in the XMB menu.
These are not major issues. You can just replace them with another one.

However, the program that converts TTTF (True Type Fonts) to PGF fonts sometimes produces
complete duds that will brick a PSP if they were applied.
So if you find a PGF font somewhere, you should test it with a launcher to make sure
it works.

Didn't think about that.....:D , that's very interesting, it detects your real FW, I just asked that because some people have said that they've used other methods for spoofing it, and it was not reversable.

So can the spoofer trick games that have a FW update on them like o, say 2.7?, I wanna play Daxter and the hand-held version of DBZ but both of those require higher FW than I'm remotely willing to go...so, will it trick that?

I don't think the fw spoofer will work with those games. You could try RunUMD, MPH's Game Loader, and others. If you don't already know, they are on the left column on the main dcemu psp website.

Damn....i've read the MPH Game Loader thread...and it appears that 2.6 games can't be loaded, and more than half of the 2.5 games can't either......will this work with Infected, and isn't there a shell that will run 2.00+ games?

Sry for bringing up a dead thread but that is one sick awsome font, I searched everywhere trying to find it. I would appreciate it if someone could upload the font compatible with X-Flash or at minimum tell me what the name of the font is. Because it simply amazes me how good that font and background work out. Please somebody help me out on this :O

Simple question? How can I change boot up sound? I figured out the font, that was EZ cos ive been working on a DH PC Tool to customise emulated firmware. Also, is there a way to customise the ICONS? also what file has the custom names for each category.. I noticed one is called CODES now, and I dont really like. Anyway to change to change boot up squigglies to something else I thought it was gameboot.pmf
