On the Sega Saturn the best way to play homebrew is to have your console chipped. Rockin-B found these sites that are of help:

Just a few found with google, list not complete:

so uh i must ask what the dealio is! 2 years ago i looked up "satcast" and etc. found nothin. found a few diehards hopin the Bleem would grant their wish. what is the deal now? can u or not play Saturn games on ur Dreamcast simply by loading a disk then putting in a saturn disk? is that ever gonna happen? was there a processor issue or somthin? can i get the technical 411 of this all.

no, there are no working saturn emus for the dreamcast, the only one is yabouse and it only emulates the bios at 5 fps.

does the mod chip allow vcd's to be read?

No for that you will need a seperate VCD card.

I bought my Saturn modchip from racketboy and have been very happy with it.

If you got the VCD card, you can not only play original video CDs, but also self burned video CD's on CD-R, without the need of a modchip.

The only VCD Cards I can find are for a lot of money on ebay which is a bit much for me to pay for at the moment

No, but you can burn region patched ISOs on CD-R, use an Universal Adapter or make a region mod.

If you got a damaged disc that the Saturn can't read, but your PC CD-Drive can, then it's no problem to make a copy and play that CD-R instead on a Saturn (modchip or swaptrick). Any CD copy program should work.
Mind that the security ring won't be copied, so it won't work without modchip or swap-trick.

Is it normal for the computer to say keep giving warning messages about unrecoverable data whilst copying the disc?

Elven6
July 9th, 2006, 16:29
No its not normal, I belive it means it can't get your data from a certain sector.

Why not run the disc through a cd cleaner?

Actually, you can play homebrew on a saturn with a Key Disc as well. No need to chip the machine then!

why don't you try the swap disc trick? no modchip needed, if is so hard to find it novadays...

the dreamcast is said to be impossible for saturn emulation but it was also believed at one point that
DC emulation was impossible to do

The Swap trick can cause long term damage to the Saturn Itself, Im toying with the Idea of doing a 60hz and chip mod to my own Saturn, as I already have a cart to play Imports

If you would like run backup cds you don't have to mod your console
Swap Trick is the best way

First of all you need one original CD of any saturn game
You don't need to cut any wires or sth like that

Firstly put to the drive backup
Don't close door drive hold it open alltime
next step is power on your console and you can see three steps of rotation your cd
First step is very fast rotation and when it's ending and cd will rotate slowly then you should change cds from you should put off backup cd and put in original CD
Saturn needs to rotate original cd to check that cd is original or not
and when the original CD will rotate faster you should quickly put it off and put in again backup cd

sorry for my english but it works

If you have PAL console and you have game with region NTSC U or NTSC JAP it will not working with your saturn you should to change region of game by special program

I own a ST Key, it allows only to play import games on a Saturn. Maybe you confused with the Magic Card V2.

Ok, What I want to know is how to run Saturn game basic games. Saturn games come with a 0 and a 1 file. All Saturn game basic games have is a B file. And there isn't a tutorial. So how about filling us in on how to actually run the homebrew.

Hopefully there might be a magic softmod disc / disc swap discovered that works well without any long term problems and doesn't require a hard mod... Otherwise, well, I'll try racketboy.. :(

actually i did see a thread on some other forum a couple of weeks ago... seems there are still a few people working on being able to replicate the security ring on the discs. seems someone took a microscope to one and found out (from what i could decipher with my limited knowledge :o ) that they need a CAV burner capable of w/e they tell it to in order to form the logo etc. Actually reminded me of lightscribe lol
