I feel like blowing some sorry SOB's brains out right now......Im so pissed........

OK, I bought a used DC, got it home and hooked it up.......everything went fine, until I put in my game, Sega Rally 2, and the damn thing wouldnt read it! The DC wont even attempt to spin the disc. I also tried some music CDs and no luck either.....

Is there ANY way i can fix it???

and here is the fix

The DC wont even attempt to spin the disc.

i missed that the first time, if it never spins, it sounds like the motor has died, and has to be replaced, which is more of a pain in the ass

Well after doing what was in the link you posted, it now spins the disc!

But, it isnt reading them or something....it keeps giving the "Please Insert Game Disc" message....

So, now what?

well try an audio CD first, see if it plays that, if it does, then we are are the right track. you need to turn the laser up a little more (as it needs more to read GD-Discs) but only a little more.

It wont play audio cds either.....and Ive turned the screw on the laser completely around multiple times, but it doesnt seem to get faster or slower, its just working now....

Is there a certain position the laser screw should be turned to?

oh, man its sounds like you busted it, (or it was already) you should only turn it it a tiny bit too much burns it out. :/

also any DC before Dec 2000 is fine for HB, and if your in europe every DC works

Busted?

I dont think so...the disc seems to spin at an average speed...it just stops spinning after about 10 secs or so...

Are there any other guides?

or it was already

Thats what Im thinking...when i took it apart to adjust the laser the red/white/black wires were already unlatched...

I found this by searching...

every disc I put in the machine is not recognized. The browser menu keeps saying Insert Game Disc. When I power up the machine, the browser screen comes up and the memory card icon is highlighted, even though I don't have a VMU attached to the console.

This is the EXACT same thing happening to me....but Im not sure if my DC ever ran homebrew since I got it used....its an Oct. 99 model thats why i want to get it fixed...

you see, the motor might be fine, but from what you have posted, i'm prettys sure the laser has burned out (which is the most common DC break down) try returning it and get another (any thing older than DEC 2000)

So one that was made before Dec 2000 will run homebrew, etc.?

I called the store I got it form and they said it has a 2 week warranty....Ill return it soon, I just hope they have another 99 model...

Thats good to know.

Is there a particular burning progam I need to burn discs for DC? I only have Ashampoo Burning Studio right now...will that work?

Thanx for all of the help...... :)

nero, disc juggler, alcohol 120%, but if you use bootdreams it can burn it for you

You only need BootDreams and it's freeware.

Having Alcohol120% won't be wrong, but really, BootDreams is all you need.

Get it from here:

Forget about Nero.

Here's a tutorial for BootDreams:

Also, there's a new Quake port called nxMakaqu that's still in development:

I listed some more recommend FPS ports here:

I used the newest version of Discjuggler to burn all my Dreamcast .cdi backups and it worked great. Just remember to always select "No" when it asks if you want it to "fix" the image.
