Need help with updating to 5.03

Howdy

I just purchased a psp for my son for his birthday, but he wants me to update his psp to m33 5.03 from 1.80 (no m33?)
how do i do this?
I read through the guides but nothing reallys fills me in, sorry, im completely clueless when it comes to this sort of thing

you'll need to downgrade to 1.50 first

how do i do that?
I tried the "downgrader for all psp's and I followed the instructions but it says the data is corrupted?
I have Version 1.80
can you post a link for a downgrader that will work for me I cant find one for 1.80 to 1.50
