:D as far as im aware the psp can only play mp4, so you will have to convert whatever video you have to mp4 first to do this simply download psp video express ffor free or psp video nine heres a link for the express http://www.topshareware.com/PSP-Video-Express-download-39948.htm its free to download and easy to use, just click open then open file look for your video open it once its in video express click on record, and it will convert to mp4 once finished just click psp video transfer and enable usb then just click on transfer selected files option good luck:D

PSP Video 9 is the way to go. Here's where to get:
http://www.pspvideo9.com/

Here's detailed instructions for converting dvd to psp:
http://www.divx-digest.com/articles/dvdtopsp.html

More general video format conversions (such as avi to psp):

I use SUPER to encode my files since it can accept many formats such as wmv that I have my tv shows recorded in. Here's where to get:
http://www.erightsoft.com/S1OC1.html

Instructions for this program:

Stick with PSP Video 9 (can also convert wmv) for now, SUPER is giving me trouble with wmv conversions - the mp4 output is unplayable.
