View Full Version : Can I ask a stupid question?

After taking a good read of the forums here, and surveying everything that is available for homebrew on the PSP I just happily bought, I have to ask the following question:

Why in hell is everyone (or at least the most vocally annoying people here) so angrily dead set against NOT buying GTA in order to load up homebrews and emulators? I mean, I understand why people who downgrade or refuse to upgrade their PSP's firmware choose to do so...but seriously.

Did you all buy your PSP's so you could ONLY run homebrews and Emulators and you never plan to buy any real PSP games?

GTA is a good game. Great? maybe not, but still fun. But it also allows you to run a hack that runs nearly all the available homebrews, and with the latest 2.6 Kernal exploit undoubtedly ALL of them will run perfectly soon. And if you don't get one NOW, or get a used one soon, you WON'T be able to do it anymore, since they've supposedly patched it.

Are you all just too cheap to actually buy GTA, or what? I mean seriously, you can get it used for like $25. It can't be about the money.

And if you don't want to use GTA to load up Homebrews, why not get a GP? The GP is far better and easier for running this stuff and there's much more available.

Oh right, I forgot. A GP won't run all those PSP ISOs most of you swear you never run and aren't allowed to talk about.

What a bunch of liars and hypocrites.

I would like to say a huge thanks to all the coders and crackers who help the rest of us who bought a PSP for the games to be able to play some "extra" stuff like homebrews and EMU's.

Now go ahead...flame me.

who ever said they were against buying gta to run homebrew on higher firewares i never readed a post that a user said they were against it in-fact iv read counless post of users telling users with other firware to buy gta to run homebrew with the amazing program e0loader by fanjita so where do you come in with the alligations that people are against buying gta

btw we are all against iso's except for the bad few that continue pirating ITS WRONG i for one dont even know were to start looking for one and i know the honest users here stay tru to there word and dont use iso's

In the past few days, I've seen AT LEAST 5 people on here say "I'll never buy GTA". on here.

And yeah - I feel the same way about ISOs, but then again, EVERYONE should feel the same way about the Roms you need to run most emulators. It's ALL PIRATED. It's ALL ILLEGAL, unless you own the original. Except of course if you did own the original PSP UMD for a game, and you run the ISO from your Memory Stick, you're not doing anything wrong.

Kinda sucks.

And no, I don't want to focus this thread on ISOs. I just wanted to ask why so many people seem so dead set against buying $20 & $30 games for a systems they spent $250 on.

the people that you seen that posted "i'll never buy gta". are probally the people that have 1.5 psp so it would be piontless to buy gta when they all ready have FULL HOMBREW CAPABILTY'S so why upgrade and have to buy gta to get hombrew that doesnt even run as well as 1.5 homebrew............remember that 2.1+ firware still cant run homebrew thru kernal mode (thou this might change due to the news that developers have finally got kernal to work on higher firewares) so this is why 1.5 users are against updating and losing there whole homebrew experience..........not to mention that most games for the psp so far arnt even that good not to take anything away from the certain few that are

btw roms are legal if you own a copy of the game your downloading and its not a hot issue and not pursued as much by law standerds but iso's are hard to determain whats right by law and its a hot issue and is presently debated by game developers and im sure sony has taken notice of this

firstly what a pointless thread, your making claims, which have no relevance to anything, and basically flaming everyone
whats your problem, you seem so forceful that your rant is all righteous, but you complain about the very same thing. im starting to get very bored with newcomers starting threads just to slag everyone off.
you need some internal reflection, take a walk and clear your head, you need it!

All I wanted was people to answer my question.

How is buying games like GTA for a PSP pointless, regardless of which firmware your PSP has? It isn't. The game was made for the system.

If you only wanted a system to run homebrews, why did you buy a PSP? Why not buy a GP?

It just doesn't make a lot of sense. I came here looking for info and insight on the PSP, a system that I enjoy playing BOTH homebrews and Original PSP games on. Funny me, I would have though MOST people who came here to talk about the PSP actually liked playing PSP games on them. I guess I was just a bit disappointed at the fact that this board is fairly well dominated by PSP owners who want nothing to do with actual PSP games, and the ones who do nothing but whine about "whaaa why do I have to buy GTA to run all this illegal crap I'm not supposed to talk about, you coder guys suck...".

Like I said, beyond the mods and the actual coders, it seems like everyone here hates their PSP becasue it isn't fully customizable.

How am I being hostile by asking people on a PSP forum why they don't want PSP games? The general tone in here seems really negative towards having to buy PSP games to make some of the homebrews & hacks work. I asked why everyone is so negative towards actually buying PSP games, and I get flamed (pathetically, I might add) by a bunch of 733t-speak 12 year olds who can't even form full sentences.

How is any of what I said "hippicritical"?

Or did you mean Hypocritical? and still, how am I being Hypocritical? Do you even know what that word means?

Despite his/her tone of the first post, it does hold some valid points although I have only seen several posts regarding the 'never buy GTA issue'.

Roms are still illegal unless you have backed them up yourself (which is still a grey area) yet we are still allowed to talk about using them (there is a moral factor here) but ISOs we can't?

PS: I am still neutral in this topic, all I am doing is restating the OP.

As for the PSP's 'never upgrade issue', there really are a lot of users that just want the PSP for emulation and homebrew so why should they upgrade?

PSP vs GP2x (I assume) point is mainly at present, the PSP has a bit more to offer homebrew such as N64 emulation and half decent GBA emulation.

The point of the thread wasn't defending talk about ISOs.

The point of the thread was to ask people why they are so negative towards ACTUALLY BUYING games like GTA in order to run Homebrews.

It makes sense to me that if you really want to run homebrews and you have firmware 2.5/2.6 - then you'd run out and spend the $25 on GTA so you could play $100's worth of great homebrew games and emu's for FREE.

I'd love to see what some of these "I'm not byuing PSP games for my PSP!!!11!!!" plonkers would say if all the coders and hackers who make homebrews possible started actually charging for their work.

He hasn't broke any rules. He's kept this conversation quite civil. Some of you guys need to chill and not freak out when ever time the word "ISO" is mentioned. My previous post was simply a reply to yaustar's comment.

Back on Topic ;)

I've not seen many PSP users who state "They'll never get GTA" because if there ever was a must have PSP game, GTA would be it. I do agree with carpy that GTA should be in the collection of every PSP user (especially since it first opened the doors of homebrew to many users). GTA works fine on any firmware with the proper homebrew apps. :D

June 29th, 2006, 08:23
Yeah, I haven't seen that many posts stating this either.

But, I AM one of those users who would be pretty torqued off if I had to buy GTA to use homebrew. Despite it's immense popularity, I think it's a sub par and very unexciting game. It's gotten FAR too much hype, and whenever something with only questionable value gets that much hype, it turns me off all that much more. If it wasn't so popular, I wouldn't care so much, but since it IS so popular and so relatively unexciting, I don't want to touch it with a ten-foot pole. I don't want to be seen buying it, with it, and I don't want to support Rockstar in any way. Especially after that porn "accident". I don't care that they'd put that kind of content in their games, but doing so without giving ANYONE a heads up that it was there, was VERY irrespopnsible and careless. Even if you don't find that tactic personally repulsive, you can't argue that it's brought unnessecarily harsh criticism on the industry. I'll say it one more time: I don't want anything to do with this company.

Besides, used PSP games for $25??? Wow, I always check the used game stores when I'm on the road, and most games are still going between $35-$45 used. Yes, this has been my actual experience. I've made special note of the fact because some times the games are much less new than they are used (Darkstalkers, in particular, is often priced much higher used than it is brand new). If you can find used games for as little as $25 (especially one as popular as GTA), I'd consider you lucky.

I would argue that GBA roms fall in the same catagory as PSP games as they are still being developed and sold. However rules are rules and I am not the one that makes them so this will be my last comment on this matter.

On topic, I have actaully stopped using my PSP for homebrew, upgraded it because I have a GP2X and some of the newer PSP games do look promising. Quite frankly I really cannot be bothered with the ongoing firmware issue and eloaders when I have a more accessiable (sp?) handheld for this type of area already.

For you carpy its called research

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Read-only_memory

Copyright is a set of exclusive rights granted by governments to regulate the use of a particular expression of an idea or information. At its most general, it is literally "the right to copy" an original creation. In most cases, these rights are of limited duration. The symbol for copyright is , and in some jurisdictions may alternately be written (c).

Copyright may subsist in a wide range of creative, intellectual, or artistic forms or "works". These include poems, theses, plays, and other literary works, movies, choreographic works (dances, ballets, etc.), musical compositions, audio recordings, paintings, drawings, sculptures, photographs, software, radio and television broadcasts of live and other performances, and, in some jurisdictions, industrial designs. Copyright is a type of intellectual property; designs or industrial designs may be a separate or overlapping form of intellectual property in some jurisdictions.

Copyright law covers only the particular form or manner in which ideas or information have been manifested, the "form of material expression". It is not designed or intended to cover the actual idea, concepts, facts, styles, or techniques which may be embodied in or represented by the copyright work. Copyright law provides scope for satirical or interpretive works which themselves may be copyrighted. See idea-expression divide.

For example, the copyright which subsists in relation to a Mickey Mouse cartoon prohibits unauthorized parties from distributing copies of the cartoon or creating derivative works which copy or mimic Disney's particular anthropomorphic mouse, but does not prohibit the creation of artistic works about anthropomorphic mice in general, so long as they are sufficiently different to not be imitative of the original. Other laws may impose legal restrictions on reproduction or use where copyright does not - such as trademarks and patents.

all i want to know is where did you see a post saying "i'd never buy gta" and i can tell you exactly why they said that

-they have a 1.5 so theres no need to buy gta because they already enjoy full homebrew capabiltys

-they have a 2.0 and can use the tiff expliot so theres no need to buy gta to run homebrew and they can downgrade to 1.5 when ever they like

-they just plain out dont like the game and dont want to buy it not everyone has to buy gta of course you need it to run homebrew on higher firwares

-they have 2.7+ and so theres no need to get gta because all hopes of running homebrew are lost

acutally your claims dont even make sence a person with a higher fireware will actually be more influenced to buy gta and run homebrew so your claim doesnt make any sence

and as of now there are only a handfull of good psp commercail games out and everyone is entitled to there opinion if they dont want to buy gta so be it we are not making the chose for them

You type, spell and form sentences like a 3 year old Down Syndrome sufferer.

If you had 12 years of programming experience, you wouldn't be spending your days flaming people in net forums. You'd be programming games and releasing homebrews or working for an actual psp game developer/publisher.

Go finish Highschool, and please, pay attention during English class, you REALLY need it. To begin wiht, you migth want to use periods at the end of your sentences. It helps people understand what the **** you're yelling about better.

Making common typing errors, and misspelling words because you don't know how to spell them correctly in the the first place are two completely different things.

OK, back on topic.

So what's the likelihood tht the new 2.6 Kernal exploit will allow homebrews to run WITHOUT GTA?

I would think with direct Kernal access, work-arounds like the GTA exploit wouldn't be necessary.

Further more who says that all programmers have to work for Sony.
Second i have mi own company because if you had pass first grade you would know that programmers and software engineer's don't just do games. Thats the reason why i have so much time.

I wont follow this thread no more stop being a 5 year old and grow up.
