Im going to be replacing my bricked psp and Im wondering if anybody's got any idea on what the firmware on the core psp is... more importantly if its downgradable to 1.5

It depends. You have to look at the letter on the sticker on the side of the box underneath the "120V". A = 1.50, B = 1.51, C = 1.52, and so on. I think you want to look for between A-I. Those should be downgradable. And keep asking the lady at Wal-Mart to pull out another and another till you find a good one. Thats what I did :-)

But about the core pack; I know it was released between 2.60 and 2.70, so I would guess 2.60.

But be very careful new psp are updated in the hardware to not run homebrew. So its not possible to run firmware older than the one it came with.

The core packs dont come with anything lower than a 2.50 and if it is it is probably one with a TA-082 motherboard which you cant downgrade.
