Hi there,
im sorry if this seems like a n00b question, (tbh it is a n00b question) but I am a little stumped on all the options available.

I HAD my psp downgraded to 1.50 using the Luminaires (?) UMD game, I was then able to run emulators (snes9x etc) directly from the memory stick. I was then instructed to install devhook (auto installer with firmware 2.71) so that I could run UMD's with a higher firmware requirement, I stupidly (and accidently) then updated my PSP to 2.81, confusing the devhook 2.71 with the 2.81 update thinking I already had 2.81 installed (n00b i know!)

What I would like to do now is revert back to the holy 1.50 firmware, however as I am not particularly in the loop with these mods I really need to know where to start and what is better for me, do I need to install a "custom firmware" do I need to upgrade all the way to 6.20 then try to roll back??

Because I dont know what/how the custom firmware will benefit me or what features they enable its like finding a needle in a haystack,

Any pointers would be great! Thanks
Phil

Hmm, it's been a long time since I did any downgrading via the old ways before Pandora came out. So then, you're on official version 2.81 and I assume you have a 1000 series PSP.

There's two ways to do this and both require upgrading.

If you have a copy of Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories, you can use the 3.03 downgrader. However, please make sure that your copy isn't a patched one. To check, insert the UMD in the drive and see what updater version is on there. If it has v2.60, your copy will not work with the downgrader as the savedata exploit is patched on those UMDs. If it has v2.00, then you're good to go. Then grab the downgrader from here (http://www.dcemu.co.uk/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=51035) (first package only). Please read carefully the readme document to set things up. Download the required official firmware updates needed from here (http://www.psp-hacks.com/category/36).

If you still have your copy of Lumines (make sure it's not Lumines 2), you can use the 3.50 downgrader from here (http://www.dcemu.co.uk/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=67048). Don't forget to read the readme before comitting. Download the required official firmware updates needed from here (http://www.psp-hacks.com/category/36).

the method described using those umd games to downgrade/upgrade is, i thought, rather dated... it will work...

assuming that you have a phat, you have 3 options to install cfw:

1. since you have ofw 3.50 or lower, you can downgrade to 1.50 and then install cfw (the method you are looking at doing)

2. you can upgrade ofw to 5.03 and then use chickHEN & Hellcat's Recovery Flasher (or Xgen Updater alternatively) to install cfw

3. or if you update past ofw 5.03, then you use a pb and mms to install cfw.

remember, all phats regardless of its ofw is hackable.

i reckon the second option is the easiest, while the third option is basically the recovering from a semi- or fully bricked phat. thus having a pb or soft-modding to get pb might be something you will need to look at...

now, there has been issues when installing the chickHEN R2 - but i can vouch for this method, i installed cfw onto both my phat and slim using that method...

have a look thru the guide here - as it mentions all 3 methods.
