1. You can play the most amount of homebrew software on a PSP

- Check the back catalogue of GBA homebrew

2. You can update the system software when the software goes out of date

- Can you? I the flash player is out of date, but I can't seem to upgrade that.
- Custom Firmwares can be flashed to the DS

3. You can connect the PSP to the computer

- So you can use it as an expensive card reader?

4. you can adjust the PSPs system settings withoout having to restart your system after resetting them

- But yet you have to exit a game?

5. you can have a nickname on your PSP

- And on the DS

6. You can use a wallpape on your home screen

- Look at me I have a pretty picture

7. ou can use RSS channels on your psp

- Good advantage. It be interesting to see what DS Opera offers in contrast.

8. you can set up your netwrok settings properly

- Which you can do on the DS. Why is it on an advantage even if the DS couldn't?

9. you can view photos on your psp

- As a base function yes. Pretty handy if you have a Sony camera. This can be done with a Supercard on the DS though.

10. You can veiw slidshows on your psp

- Same of 9.

11. you can create new folders to store photos in

- Same of 9.

12. You can listen to music

- Again nullified by the supercard. Base functions only, it is an advantage

13. Yo can watch music videos

- See 12.

14. You can watch UMD videos

- Who does (insert standard comment about buying the movie twice [dvd/umd] )?

15. You can veiw video off the mem stick

- Same as 13.

16. You can make more than one save on each game instead of one

- Dependent on the game, not the system.

17. play downloadable demos

- Same as the DS.

18. You have an internet browser

- DS Opera will nullify this. Base functions alone, it is an advantage.

19. You can view RSS channels

- Same as 7.

20. Yo can play flash games

- Good advantage

21. you can watch flash videos

- Same as 20. Comes under "Has a flash player£

22. you can view flash enabled websites

- Same as 20.

23. You can watch TV through your psp

- Extra cost.

24. youv can use location free player

- Same as 23.

25. you can havec different folders to store your music in

- Same as 12/13

26. youb can group your music

- Same as 25 which is the same as 12/13

27. you have easyier controls

- Tiny analogue stick? Sticky sqaure button? D pad? Like hell it does. Very game dependent as well.

28. you have an infared port

- And this is useful for?

29. will soon have a psone emulator

- Interesting...

30. PS3 connectivity

- Ds will have Wii connectivity

31. Will have a psp camera

- Been done and dusted by Nintendo already on the original Gameboy.

32. A GPS system

- Interesting...

33. A great selection of games

- Subjective.

34. The DS has a selection of childish selection of games like mario

- Subjective. The DS has Settlers, Trauma Center, Metroid Hunters, Resident Evil.

35. you can lock your psp so any of the buttons dont get pressed acidentally

- The DS you can close the lid and protect the screen at the same time.

36. you have four levals of screen brightness

- So the does the DS lite

37. whenb you want to quit a game on the DS you have to turn the sytem off but on the PSP you jsut have to press the homne button

- No you don't you just shut the lid

38. You can adjust the Tone of music

- Part of the music player?

39. bigger memory avalible for the for the psp

- You HAVE to have a memory stick to save games, DS you don't. Super Card takes any size SD card.

40. Much lighter and has a better more sleak designS

- Heard of the DS lite right?

41. the volume is much stronger than the ds

- hmm, subjective.

42. multiformat songs can be played such as mp3 wma wav atr3

- Same as 12.

43. looks verystylish and modern

- Look at the DS lite

44. not for kids

- Why does it seem that lots of kids own one then?

45. exchange pictures via wi-fi

-----------------------------------------------------------

Some DS advantages:

- Great online service and is used heavily by Nintendo now.

- Cheap/Inexpensive for both the unit and games

- Better battery life.

- Uses solid state media which means no loading times, smaller and more durable then UMD discs

- Touch screen adds a new dimension of games not previously seen on many handhelds. Offers mouse like control (as seen in Metroid Hunters). A good example is Trauma Center.

- Cheaper to develop for.

- Backwards complatible to an extremely large GBA library

i agree with Yaustar. I love my psp a lot more than a ds, but the ds also has many advantages over the psp. You really cannot compare systems liek these because they both have strenghts and weaknesses against eachother.

IMO I think that they are both about equal. The DS has far better commerical games and control, yet the PSP has better homebrew and some other stuff. It really depends on what you like. Commercial games or homebrew.

I think its dependent on the person. Both has Pros and Cons so i dont think its fit to say any each is better.

46. You can pick up chicks with a Sony PSP

47. You can use any wireless access point with the PSP (and scan for them)

48. You can put the PSP into stand by.

I got a DS and a PSP. The DS is much better than the PSP in terms of more variety of good commercial games such as mario naruto aelda and those innovative stylus games but the PSP slaps DS in the face when it comes to homebrew i mean jus look at my sig.. besides the emulators PSP also gets loads of dedicated coders who create homebrew apps for PSP users to play such as smashgpsp not to mention a free web browser which we dont have to pay for like the DS.. $50 lol

46. You can pick up chicks with a Sony PSP
- Not provable.

47. You can use any wireless access point with the PSP (and scan for them)
- Yep, and in addition the later firmwares have WPA support

48. You can put the PSP into stand by.
- You can do the same with the DS by closing the lid in the middle of a game.

Wrong. The DS has just as good emu, 'cept for SNEs, but better GBA. On M3, all ya do is patch a rom and run it with a save! PERFECT SPEED! NES? Pocketnes. GB/C? GoomBA and GoomBA Colour. SNES isn't that good yet, but Snezzi DS is coming great.

50 bucks? YOU FRIGGIN NUTS?! It's coming in for like 40 bucks USD! Maybe less!

Besides. GPF is one of the best DS coders around.

Sounds like a rant from a $ony fanboy to me, too.

Now can someone close this so it doesn't become a flame/console war?

GBA 'emulation' is perfect since it uses GBA hardware (ie ARM7 CPU). It isn't emulation.

1. You can play the most amount of homebrew software on a PSP
Ok, yes homebrew for PSP is better, but I think DS makes up for it by actually having fun games to buy, unlike PSP.
2. You can update the system software when the software goes out of date
So can you on DS, for the price of PSP you can get a DS Lite and M3 or other device, where you can completely decide what versions and what software you want
3. You can connect the PSP to the computer
You can do this with your M3's SD Card
4. you can adjust the PSPs system settings withoout having to restart your system after resetting them
Erm, yay?
5. you can have a nickname on your PSP
Who cares?
6. You can use a wallpape on your home screen
Can do this with software for your DS device
7. ou can use RSS channels on your psp
Ok
8. you can set up your netwrok settings properly
... Yes so can DS
9. you can view photos on your psp
So can DS (like with the device as mentioned earlier)
10. You can veiw slidshows on your psp
Ok thats pictures, again, can do
11. you can create new folders to store photos in
So can DS
12. You can listen to music
So can DS
13. Yo can watch music videos
So can DS
14. You can watch UMD videos
Why would you pay money for a dieing movie format
15. You can veiw video off the mem stick
So can DS
16. You can make more than one save on each game instead of one
No one needs to do this, but if you really want to you can run roms on your M3 and save on different SD cards.
17. play downloadable demos
On DS you can play the full game.
18. You have an internet browser
So can DS, with a proper typing system
19. You can view RSS channels
Hmm this sounds familier, look at point 7
20. Yo can play flash games
Ok, thats cool
21. you can watch flash videos
Yes, i know, flash
22. you can view flash enabled websites
Ok I get it, flash, thats 1 reason, not 3
23. You can watch TV through your psp
So can DS, hell so can GBA
24. youv can use location free player
Awesome, like 3% use that stuff
25. you can havec different folders to store your music in
Yes, you mentioned this already, pretty amazing, but so can DS
26. youb can group your music
Really?!, I didnt think having different folders solved that..
27. you have easyier controls
Says who?, DS clearly has just as good controls and a funner control, touch screen > analog
28. you have an infared port
Not needed, DS can do everything needed without that.
29. will soon have a psone emulator
I'd rather play nintendos official updated N64 ports then psone
30. PS3 connectivity
Wii Connectivity
31. Will have a psp camera
Ok, thats cool, but im sure DS may do this, seeing as they did with GB
32. A GPS system
Not sure what this is so I cant comment.
33. A great selection of games
lol, says who?
34. The DS has a selection of childish selection of games like mario
No, it has great nintendo classics, but it also has a large selection of games that you wouldnt buy for a young child.
35. you can lock your psp so any of the buttons dont get pressed acidentally
DS doesnt take 4 hours to load so you can just turn it off
36. you have four levals of screen brightness
DS's battery last forever so you dont have to resort to turning the brigthness down.
37. whenb you want to quit a game on the DS you have to turn the sytem off but on the PSP you jsut have to press the homne button
Yes, but the games suck anyway.
38. You can adjust the Tone of music
Are these really valid points, or are you just rambling?, who cares?
39. bigger memory avalible for the for the psp
No, not true.
40. Much lighter and has a better more sleak design
DS Lite looks a ton better than PSP and is lighter

Ok, so there we go, just to make it clear, I'm not a DS fanboy, I was considering a PSP and down the line may still get one, but I just wanted to make a clear argument against this guys biased and often pointless "reasons".

Without a touch screen that would be awful on alot of games, and i dont know how it would fit right, but if the PSP plays NDS games, brings out a touch screen for not too much, and extends its battery life by like 400%, then i would prefer it to NDS, but until then..

Buajaja: Portable Console Wars MXVIII

Well, both DS and PSP have very good features.

I have been a PSP user for some time and my cute sister has a NDS.

First thing i like about my PSP is about it's looks, when mi sister is playing with her NDS in a place with lots of people they just give a glimpse to the thing and then look away and keep walking.

But... when i'm playing with my black shinning PSP for some reason people gets curious and keep staring at it as if it where some strange animal (well, it may be that i'm the one that looks like some strange animal with long hair and shaggy beard, but who cares...)

Another thing I love about the PSP is the big screen, well, i have been messing with my sister's DS (did i say she was cute??) and have been able to play some videos, the bad thing is that after years of being in front of the TV and PC playing games my sight has been somewhat affected so it gets very hard to read the subtitles in the DS's screen :(

I won't thalk about homebrew, i think thats very clear right now...

About the games... it may be a little subjetive too, i know a lot of people who hates NDS games, (me, for example) i'd rather play Burnout Legends and destroy some things than keep guiding a mini Link around a always-look-the-same castle or playing Mario with steroids (well, the last one may be fun, at least you can kill some turtles and other dumb-looking creatures...)

But well, not all about the NDS is bad, after all 'touching is good' (but you must be careful of what r u gonna touch...) and it seems my sister enjoys touching things so i think that with time some interesting game (about the touching stuff) may come out...

Playing UMDs sucks the life out of the batteries. You can view videos for about 8 hours or so off of the memory stick. ;)

i have nitendo consoles i have no clue why i preffer sony and xbox

For some reason I dislike Xbox's, I dont really know why =/, then I like both Playstation and Nintendo, as a young kid it was nintendo nintendo nintendo, i loved it, but as I grew up I now enjoy both, I often like Nintendo to go back to my childhood, and Playstation for some newer games.

If theres one thing nintendo could improve, it would be to try and move forward a bit and not ALWAYS focus on past successful games, maybe try and reach out to older gamers a little more.

Xenon312
August 17th, 2006, 10:07
I don't really care about the biased "ogm DS pwnz teh Pee-S-Pee" and vice-versa. Nintendo has always aimed for the "suitable for everyone" thing. It's all a question of taste. I just happened to buy a PSP, and am enjoying it. For everyone DS-orientated who has a problem with that, go touch yourself. (touching is good)

ACID
August 17th, 2006, 10:10
Well i think alot of people that have the PSP also have the NDS yet talk bad about it. Its day and night. Black & White. All about taste. Love them bouth. How about this GP2X is better but in a young stage yet. Let the flaming bigging.

Seriousyl,
why does one console ALWAYS have to be BETTER?

Theyre both great hand helds, far adavnced from any weve had in the past. They both provide countless hours of entertainment to countless amounts of people. Just because you own one, or happen to like a particular system better than the other does NOT mean the other one is complete crap. Anyone who thinks that is just blind and a fool. Its really a matter of personal taste(or money :P) and is too subjective to say one is better than the other.

So everyone quit your mindless babble and go enjoy whichever handheld you happen to have.

It's true that the PSP homebrew scene is much more developed but the NDS scene is really starting to bloom.

As for RedKing14CA and his 3 points, you can also scan for wifi with the DS as well as put it into a stand by mode which saves you spot exactly where you left it in a game or application.

There is already a free homebrew broswer for the DS available as well as AIM that is in development and other apps that are already available.

It took me a while to pick the DS over the PSP. I considered all the homebrew aspects and still went with the DS. I just think there is more potential on the DS and the portability and aesthetics of the DS was better.

well, there both good systems but the DS is more like "Look at me i have a touch screen, lets go draw something" in a funny italian accent (if your Italian, pretend its a funny American Southwest Accent, this was a mario gag) and PSP is more like "Look at me, im cheese that you can listen to outside" (i know youve seen that psp commercial and if you havent, substitue this quote, "Look at me, im PSP and i have dvd quality movies made especially for me")

The Hombrew Hunter
August 23rd, 2006, 06:30
The so called "Dvd quality movies" are total wastes of money.

The touch screen is awesome.

And, it would be.."A-look at a-me! I'vea got a touch-a-screen-a! Let'sa go draw something!"

and

"Look at me, I'm psp and I have overpriced shitty movie UMDs that you could just buy a cheaper DVD that you can play on DVD players and put straight on the memory stick to see easier because $ony is a bunch of cheapasses."

my friend got a ds for $200 with mario kart, after 2 days he was sick of the thing and sold it to me for $120, after 2 weeks I sold it to my brother with mario kart and burnout legends for $100 which I used to buy my shiny, batman style PSP and I have never looked back.
My brother's ds is now sat on the shelf collecting dust and he never got another game, while my PSP is used several times a day and regulary gets money spent on games and accesories. In my opinion the PSP (thanks to homebrew) is the best system I have EVER had and after 4 months hasn't even started to bore me.
The only problem with the PSP is everybody wants one and after 2 attempted robberies I don't even use it out and about anymore, maybe I should get a ds to throw at them while i'm making my escape. (and i am not a sony fan-boy, the PSP is the first sony console i've had, I'm normally a nitendo fan but I couldn't resist the PSP).

Well I have a DS, and i love it...especially now that i can play backups on my GBAMP (w00t go Triforce!) anyway, I have a friend that has a PSP and usually when he comes over he'll play my DS and ill play his PSP (unfortunatly he updated his to 2.71 before i mentioned homebrew...i think..) I must say i love burnout legends and socom is alright, but i guess thats because when it comes to FPS's or third person shooters, im more of a mouse-and keyboard person, not a controller person.....

But yea both systems have their good points and their bad points, so i think it all equals out in the end, so i dont really see the point of comparing them

Also, i dont have the quote but someone mentioned that this sounds like a Sony fanboy created this thread....well i agree

Crimson_Lotus
August 26th, 2006, 23:30
I can agree with yaustar with most points, but on the part about the tv part..extra cost.. Well you can use the ds lite on the tv with a new accessory coming out.

But, said extra cost. Well, for the DS to get most of the funtionalities of the PSP it needs a flash card. Which can cost anything from 80-150 dollars including needed accessories. Also, PSP is much more user friendly on these things. (For movies its alittle differant), but it just seems like dragging a mp3 into a music file isn't as hard as installing a program like moonshell. The DS is not for kids I agree, but has a lot more games with the ESBR rating below mature. Picture viewing and movie viewing are agreeable more "beautiful" on the PSP screen than DS or DS Lite.. The weight is obviously false for the lite. The PSP is very heavy. As far as sound quality goes, PSP is victor. If you went by specifications I am sure you could find dozens of segments of purely true statements of the PSP. Such as its technical power and RAM.

in reflection, I have both. I love the DS lite's sexy look and its "less" fingerprintable sheen has a cool factor. The PSP's movie playing lets me watch some nice stuff without lugging around a laptop or squinting at subtitles on the lite...

well its good if you have old psps but for the newer versions it gets harder to emulate stuff into them. I know you can use a calculator in the psp..big whoop. Now look at the ds..all ya need is a flash kart do a little modding and boom ya got 100% emulation of most major classic consoles + gameboy advance+ DS.. what could be better? i dont see many good Psp games coming out any how.

I wouldn't think so. Many italians I know would laugh their asses off at that.

Word for word, DS and PSP each have their upsides. In some ways, they're exactly the same...dot dot dot...

lol Im an italian in a play.... me and a few people have done the following... use mario for insperation... and watch the sopranos hahah

like Austin Powers and Dr. Evil the same? or like it takes all kinds of fruit to make fruit cups (Mission Hill Refernce)

I love mission hill.. then again.. i love anything with brian posehn (except devil's rejects).

If you collapse the points there that are the same (view flash website, view flash animations, and has a flash player are not different 'ways' no matter how you space them out) and the ones that are outright false, you're not left with much.

I was thinking...
If you gonna make a "40 reasons the PSP is better than DS" you should have done the same with the title "40 reasons the DS is better than PSP".

Or "40 reasons to forget this kind of stuff and get LAID".

saavy?
