Microsoft will fix a 17-year-old vulnerability in Windows in its latest security update.
According to BBC News, the operating system’s February update will patch a bug involving DOS that has appeared in almost every version of Windows since NT 3.1.
The bug was discovered by a Google security researcher in January and involves a BIOS exploit that occurs when a programme is run in compatibility mode.
The February security update will also tackle a further 25 holes in Windows, five of which are rated as "critical".
Last month Microsoft said it would issue an early patch to tackle a vulnerability in Internet Explorer that allowed hackers to access a number of email accounts. A spate of high-profile web attacks led to the French and German governments encouraging users to switch to alternative browsers.
