if ur motherboard isn't a TA-082 u could downgrade, but i would upgrade to 2.6 then use the downgrader i saw alot of people say thats what they did and it worked, either way good luck

the 2.6 downgrader works on the firmware 2.5 also so no use in upgrading then downgrading

As long as you do not have a TA-082 motherboard then you can download your factory 2.5 PSP with no problems. I have a white Jap 2.5 and it worked a treat on mine.

So its fine downgrading a factory version psp? I have a white factory set 2.6 without any writing on the mobo in the top right, ie. assuming its not a TA-082. Is it cool to try and downgrade? Has anyone else downgraded a factory set firmware without any upgrades first?

Incorrect I went ahead with it and it worked flawlessly I'm now enjoying the goodness of 1.5 homebrew. I used the Easy dowdater and everything went great.

Is it worth me attempting to downgrading my factory 2.6? Or should i wait till someone cracks it properly.

Well it appears to have already been cracked properly. If you can't afford to replace it or are worried about tackling Sonys support then don't but I can confirm this worked on my ceramic white factory set 2.6 psp.

Oh and if it does go wrong ring up Sony support and tell them that you were updating to 2.7 and there was a power cut mid way through the update.

There is a easy check to see if you have a TA-082 or not, and I bet it's on this site somewhere. I suggest anybody wanting to downgrade do this test and make sure that they don't have a TA-082.

Well i found out (i think) that my PSP is the G model which started out as a 2.01. I found this under the barcode on the box, underneath the 240V bit.
So i'm guessin that it should downgrade properly. I'm gonna be attempting it tonight when i get GTA off my friend. So if anyone has a reason why i shouldn't attempt this, please tell me soon.
