DS emulators and r4 cards

Hi people, I really want to know;

I have a GBA emulator on my PC and all the pokemon games that can be played on a GBA.

I also have a DS with an r4 card which I have a reader for for my PC.

Can I progress on the computer on the games, and then save the save files and or games to my r4 card? So that when I play on my DS I am at the same point? I have been told this is possible and it seems to make sense as when you save on the emulator, it gives you all these different options of file types to save the game as.
