Dreamcast SVHS

I've finally got around to setting my beloved DC up again. :D I've bought an SVHS cable (It's a very old Sony projector that only takes this input) but when I plug it in it's either black and white or if I take it out of the dreamcast and plug it back in a few times, I'll get faded colours.

Now I can turn up the colour on the projector but anyone know why this is or what can fix it. The ordinary TV lead works fine on my portable.
