AVI's are the only video format that work with DC DivX; DivX is the codec that compresses the AVI. The version of DivX you should be using to compress your AVI (assuming you're doing that yourself) should be DivX 5.01, with a bitrate below 700Kbps. The video should be no larger than 320x240, though you can technically have a resolution of 496x496.

The audio should be MP3, though ADPCM is supported, I do believe. Appropriate settings for good quality audio should be 22,050Hz, mono, 56kbps, or if you're feeling lucky, 22,050Hz, stereo, 64kbps.

If you can't make heads or tails of that, I suggest you try the AVI in DCDivX first; If it works, then you don't need to do anything else with the file. If it doesn't work, then you'll need to re-encode the file using the settings outlined above as a guideline. To do this, I recommend VirtualDub (http://www.virtualdub.org).
