Blizzard is to appeal the decision of Korea's ratings board to give the upcoming StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty an 18 rating in South Korea.

As reported earlier this week, the game was given the adults only rating based on "the game's level of violence, foul language and depiction of drug use."

Blizzard was given 30 days in which to appeal the decision, and a representative has told Shacknews that an appeal has already been registered.

PR representative Bob Colayco told the site that the rating was based on an early build of the game and that it had submitted a new build to "address the Game Ratings Board's concerns."

Lead producer Chris Sigaty added that the move wasn't expected to delay the game beyond its targeted mid-year release.

An 18 rating would be a disastrous verdict for Blizzard in Korea, where StarCraft is the centrepiece in a whole 'e-sports' scene, featuring in professional leagues and televised matches.
