EA has tasked Playfish with creating a Facebook game based on the super-lucrative FIFA franchise.
More or less nothing is known of the game as of yet, though EA Sports boss Peter Moore said of it: “Our FIFA products connect fans from all over the world who share a common passion for the sport, and soon our partnership with Playfish will allow us to bring the FIFA brand to the growing Facebook community with a new game called FIFA Superstars.
“Leveraging our football gaming knowledge and marrying it with the social gaming expertise of our partners at Playfish is sure to provide more great opportunities to bring hundreds of millions of new fans to compete against their friends to win the FIFA World Cup through an engaging interactive football experience.”
EA acquired Playfish in November 2009 in a deal rumoured to be worth in excess of $250m.
This won’t be the first title to take success on consoles and transfer it to emerging market models. Tiger Woods PGA Tour Online did the same earlier this year and has proved a sound success for the publisher.
