View Full Version : DreamSNES problems

Okay, so I followed what the tutorial at the top of this forum said.

I unzipped bootdreams into..

C:/BootDreams/

And I unzipped DreamSNES, and all my roms into...

C:/BootDreams/SNES/

I downloaded all the other stuff, like that AISP or whatever it was thing, and it wrote the disc correctly.

I put it in my Dreamcast, and it went to the "Play", "Music", "File", "etc" screen. I clicked play, and my tv flashed blue then went back to that menu.

My dreamcast is a NTSC, manufactured in April of 2000. I don't know if that affects it at all, but this is really starting to annoy me.

Thanks in advance!

1. You need to point BootDreams to '1DSNES.SH4'. So, start BootDreams, select your folder and click on 'Create Image'. BootDreams will ask you to select the main binary. You should select '1DSNES.SH4'.

(or: rename that file to 1st_read.bin before starting BootDreams and delete IP.BIN, BootDreams will create a new IP.BIN for you. The IP.BIN tells the Dreamcast which file to load first once the SEGA screen shows up.)

2. Which version of BootDreams are you using ?

1. My bootdreams doesn't have 'Creat Image', unless I'm looking at the wrong thing. Here's what mine looks like, if that helps or not...

2. BootDreams 0.6.1

1) Burn to blank media is the same thing.
2) I would try 1.0.1 if I were you.

Alright... it's still not working... so I'm going to post exactly what I do, and if you can't figure out how I'm screwing it up so badly then I'll just forget it... *Sigh*

Alright so now I have BootDreams 1.0.1

Here's what that folder looks like...

http://img464.imageshack.us/img464/2316/bootdreamsvm5.png

Inside the DreamSNES folder...

http://img200.imageshack.us/img200/7219/dreamsnespm2.png

That's my folder setup...

Then I start up BootDreams...

http://img412.imageshack.us/img412/5093/booticusxp5.png

It's automatically set for "Audio/Data" so I keep at that... then I click on the folder I want...

http://img340.imageshack.us/img340/5093/snesicucpp5.png

Then I click on "Process"

I click on "1dsnes.sh4"

Then it burns...

I put it in my Dreamcast...

Still doesn't work... what am I doing wrong?

Sorry I'm so much trouble ><;;

Hm, try BootDreams v1.01a:

http://www.consolevision.com/members/dchelp/index.php?download=BootDreams_101a.exe

It's a bugfix release to v1.01 - maybe the bug has been the reason ?

Otherwise rename "1dsnes.sh4" to "1st_read.bin" and delete the ip.bin file (or copy from another app/emu that uses "1st_read.bin" as a name for the binary).

i had issues with bootdreams, too. try suse selfboot toolkit. it natively supports snesdream and you don't have to do anything. just place all files in the data directory it creates and click on the dreamsnes.bat

just a suggestion, if you still don't get it done with bootdreams

Alright, I'll try what Christuserloeser first, then I'll take Xiaopang's advice. Once I get a more blank CD's ><

Welcome to the forums, and the emulation scene in general! Creating a selfbooting Dreamcast CD is very, very simple. It will take only one or two time to master it and actually I wrote a tutorial specific for DreamSNES and is very simple to follow as long as you know the basics of how computers work. That tutorial is located here (http://www.dcemulation.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=68460). It will answer all your questions.

Ok thanks for the link, it helped alot! i created a cd image and used DiscJuggler to burn it. my dreamcast read the disc but the only problem was that each rom was laggy like frame skipping too much. does this have to do with the burn speed i used or what version of BootDreams i used? i used 061, its the only one that seemed to work.
Thanks in advance.

That's just the emulator. It's not quite fullspeed.

So every rom i load is going to be choppy or does it depend on which rom?

Depends on the ROM. Most will not be fullspeed though.

Is there a way to get them running full speed or at least close, a different emulator maybe? and do you know if all emulators run their roms this way?

There's two other emulators you can try: SNES4ALL and SuperFamicast, although DreamSNES is known to be the fastest.
