View Full Version : Ressurection PSP {Project}

Mr. Shizzy
August 15th, 2006, 03:54
O.k. Videofreak and I are going to attempt to do something useful with a 1.5 PSP with "crippled" firmware. If we can't ressurect it hopfully we can at least make it functional (to a point) For those of you who didn't read the "oh crap" thread. I made an unfortunate dicovery with my frinds PSP. If you downgrade a 2.5/2.6 to a 1.5; and try to put on a custom firmware it may "cripple" your firmware. YOU MUST: downgrade from 2.5/2.6 to 1.5 AND THEN update to 2.0 and then back down to 1.5 BEFORE you try to apply custom firmware. For some reason the firmware seems tainted after the downgrade. It rendered my friends PSP's fw crippled. It can load up devhook w/ wlan switch down on boot. It can also load a predetermined eboot by holding X on boot. (set in config) It can NOT boot it's 1.5 fw, or boot recovery mode. So listen up. This may be educational.:)

coolio!:D

Mr. Shizzy
August 15th, 2006, 04:04
Videofreak- are you there?

Ill wait here for a few mins. Otherwise I'll continue this thread tommorow:)

I'm here! :) Sorry... :o

Interesting

Video_freak
August 15th, 2006, 04:20
So what do you want me to do Mr. Shizzy?

Mr. Shizzy
August 15th, 2006, 04:22
ok. I have tried to get it to load a eboot update with no succsess so far. I was wondering if there may be a way to set the autoboot to load devhook-1.5 w/ the wlan switch up. and boot 2.7 devhook with the wlan down (which it already does)

Mr. Shizzy
August 15th, 2006, 04:23
only prob is you can't have two "dh" folders on ms root. Any ideas there?

Video_freak
August 15th, 2006, 04:23
I have no idea. And btw, I have no PSP right now, I'm getting it in the mail tomorrow morning. :(

Video_freak
August 15th, 2006, 04:24
So wait, what exactly can he do with his crippled PSP?

Mr. Shizzy
August 15th, 2006, 04:26
It can:
1) load 2.7 emulated fw w/ devhook (turn it on w/ wlan down)

2) autoboot a predefined eboot (set in config of custom fw) by holding x during boot

It can't:

1)load recovery mode
2)load 1.5

Video_freak
August 15th, 2006, 04:28
Damn. That REALLY sucks. The only thing right now he can do is update to 2.71 or 2.80 from the Devhook, right (using the Network update thing)?

Mr. Shizzy
August 15th, 2006, 04:29
I have tried every way imaginable to update the damn thing. It just won't do it. (believe me ive tried it all....i think)

If i could somehow just find a way to use the autoboot to load a faux 1.5 fw (w/devhook) my friend would once again be happy.

ACID
August 15th, 2006, 04:29
Pretty much thats what it sounds like. Or trade it for a new one or used one.

Mr. Shizzy
August 15th, 2006, 04:30
Damn. That REALLY sucks. The only thing right now he can do is update to 2.71 or 2.80 from the Devhook, right (using the Network update thing)?

Thats the one thing i didn't try. She would kill me if i did that. lol

Video_freak
August 15th, 2006, 04:30
Does she have the firmware dump for 2.0? She could try to load that using devhook and then update to 2.6 using the emulated firmware.

Mr. Shizzy
August 15th, 2006, 04:31
is there a work around for having 2 of the same named folders on the ms root?

Video_freak
August 15th, 2006, 04:31
I don't know of any.

Mr. Shizzy
August 15th, 2006, 04:33
Does she have the firmware dump for 2.0? She could try to load that using devhook and then update to 2.6 using the emulated firmware.

The eboot, yes i have one. only prob is i got no way to configure dh. It automatically boots to 2.7 when booted w/ wlan switch down.

Video_freak
August 15th, 2006, 04:34
Damn! Could you configure it on a working PSP and then transfer it to this one?

Kramer
August 15th, 2006, 04:34
you would have to recode devhook to read from a different folder

why cant you run an update eboot

Video_freak
August 15th, 2006, 04:35
Because it automatically loads 2.7 on devhook....
And it won't load the XMB.

Mr. Shizzy
August 15th, 2006, 04:35
i will try. Can a psp update through dh though?

Video_freak
August 15th, 2006, 04:36
I'm guessing no, since it wasn't designed for that...

Mr. Shizzy
August 15th, 2006, 04:37
Anyone looking on with suggestions plz feel free to chip in. This is a group project.

Video_freak
August 15th, 2006, 04:38
What I would do is configure Devhook to load 2.0 on another PSP, then transfer it over to the bricked one. Then I would update to 2.6 from the emulated XMB...

Kramer
August 15th, 2006, 04:38
no i mean cant you assign it to launch an eboot by holding a certain button if so why dont you run an update eboot

Mr. Shizzy
August 15th, 2006, 04:39
you would have to recode devhook to read from a different folder

why cant you run an update eboot

Damn...if I knew how to code dh to run from a diff folder on ms root that would be perfect!!! For some reason it just won't autoboot a update eboot. (by holding x on boot)

Video_freak
August 15th, 2006, 04:40
try loading iR Shell on it. That may be the naswer

Mr. Shizzy
August 15th, 2006, 04:41
What I would do is configure Devhook to load 2.0 on another PSP, then transfer it over to the bricked one. Then I would update to 2.6 from the emulated XMB...

I will try this. I just wasn't sure if a psp could be updated in dh, or if it would just write the update in the devhook folder?

Video_freak
August 15th, 2006, 04:42
Yeah, I'm pretty sure Devhook can't load updates from the dh folder...

Mr. Shizzy
August 15th, 2006, 04:43
IR shell may work...

Kramer
August 15th, 2006, 04:43
no you cant update threw devhook emulated firmware.

Video_freak
August 15th, 2006, 04:44
Damn that sux. if you can load ir shell, then thats really good news already, because i'm pretty sure that would work :)

Mr. Shizzy
August 15th, 2006, 04:44
no you cant update threw devhook emulated firmware.

What about through IRShell?

IR shell IS succsessfuly autobooting.:D

Video_freak
August 15th, 2006, 04:46
iR Shell SHOULD work, i hope :)

Kramer
August 15th, 2006, 04:47
hmm i dont know about irshell never used it

Mr. Shizzy
August 15th, 2006, 04:48
so my path should look like this?

PSP>>>GAME>>>UPDATE>>>>2.0 Eboot

I hope ir shell will even show it, b/c it usually only shows 1.5 stuff w/ 2 folders

Video_freak
August 15th, 2006, 04:49
If that doesn't work, you can always try to use the version changer app, and try to update to 2.0 from a game. (it loads games right)

Video_freak
August 15th, 2006, 04:49
iR Shell should show it (you have the correct file path)

Kramer
August 15th, 2006, 04:49
yeah you would have to kxploit the eboot

Video_freak
August 15th, 2006, 04:50
The PSP 1.5 os was made to use update eboots with out kxploit ;)

Mr. Shizzy
August 15th, 2006, 04:51
If that doesn't work, you can always try to use the version changer app, and try to update to 2.0 from a game. (it loads games right)

Could you plz explain this method in a little more detail? Which version changer app are you reffering to?

Sorry about the poor spelling, I just don't want to keep everyone waiting too long for me to type.

Kramer
August 15th, 2006, 04:51
but what ive heard is irshell only shows kxploit eboots

Video_freak
August 15th, 2006, 04:52
Actually, its 1.5 anyways. You would just need to run an unpatched GTA game and use the update...

Video_freak
August 15th, 2006, 04:52
but what ive heard is irshell only shows kxploit eboots
hmmmm, we'll have to see if this an exception ;)

Mr. Shizzy
August 15th, 2006, 04:53
I''ll try this now...brb

Video_freak
August 15th, 2006, 04:55
Which one? Game update or iR Shell?

Kramer
August 15th, 2006, 04:56
when you tried to autoboot an update did you change the config.txt in SYSTEM

Mr. Shizzy
August 15th, 2006, 04:59
tried to update through unpatched gta...wouldn't work unfortunatley...."your fw vewrsion is 2.7...no need to update to 2.0"

Video_freak
August 15th, 2006, 05:00
wait, what if you turn on the psp (not loading Devhook), and just put the game in and let it load, it will tell you to update. does it let you?

Mr. Shizzy
August 15th, 2006, 05:07
when you tried to autoboot an update did you change the config.txt in SYSTEM

I'll have to check...I need to excuse myself for a little while now. PLZ continue to leave all your suggestions- as I will be experementing and checking back with updates through out the night. Thanks to all!!!!!!

Video_freak
August 15th, 2006, 05:12
So, our ideas right now are:
-Update through UMD
-Update through iR Shell

any more ideas?

Video_freak
August 15th, 2006, 05:59
Any thoughts would gladly be appreciated. ;)

Kramer
August 15th, 2006, 06:17
alright i tried kxploiting an update and running it threw irshell and that didnt work.

Video_freak
August 15th, 2006, 06:21
ok, so if the UMD idea doesnt work, we're screwed (for now...) :(

Kramer
August 15th, 2006, 06:27
i also tried autobooting an update threw my custom firmware it doesnt boot it for some reason.

BL4Z3D247
August 15th, 2006, 06:32
did u try unflashing the custom fw(with slasher's unflasher for custom fw), also what custom fw did she use, dark alex's, harleyg's...?

Mr. Shizzy
August 15th, 2006, 06:36
OK--tried to put in the umd w/o loading devhook, to try to get update screen. No dice. Now dl network update, just to see if it would let me actually do it through dh. I'll report back w/ the results.

Kramer
August 15th, 2006, 06:37
harleyg's
i think unflashing would be risky because if it doesnt work your screwed it will just be a complete brick

Mr. Shizzy
August 15th, 2006, 06:38
did u try unflashing the custom fw(with slasher's unflasher for custom fw), also what custom fw did she use, dark alex's, harleyg's...?

Yes, I tried fw unflasher, but unfortunatly it didn't work. I read in a FAQ this may be b/c I tried ti flash a 2.0 over the cfw w/o removing it first. :( It is HarleyG's 0.2 cfw. I emailed HarleyG himself. But he didn't have any suggestions.:(

BL4Z3D247
August 15th, 2006, 06:39
i've used it and as long as u plug in ur adapter to the psp u'll be fine

Mr. Shizzy
August 15th, 2006, 06:43
It did indeed dl the 2.80 update from network. Is NOT installed. Just in the games folder for now as a last resort b4 a trade in.(if necessary). It may not even work...not given up yet though...

Kramer
August 15th, 2006, 06:52
wich version of harleygs custom firmware do you have

Mr. Shizzy
August 15th, 2006, 07:05
0.2

Kramer
August 15th, 2006, 07:08
have you tried booting a different version of devhook by holding x and emulating 1.5

Mr. Shizzy
August 15th, 2006, 07:41
I would need to learn how to create the 1.5 file dump. but it may just work....(got a link to a faq?)

Kramer
August 15th, 2006, 07:51
ill do it for you and upload it somewhere

NoQuarter
August 15th, 2006, 13:01
The most current version of devhook doesn't emulate 1.5.I outlined several of these ideas in the oh crap thread. Also mr shizzy why no respond to my pm?How do you guys plan on running the update from game folder if you can't load the xmb?Devhook emulated firmware may not be capable of updating at all.If you wish to emulate 1.5 I suggest you go back to an earlier ver.
The version spoofed state of you friends psp would also be pertinent info to share.

Simply put, learn to dump and use 1.5 on an earlier version of devhook, then try to use this to modify and or restore the firmware using xflash.I believe you can restore firmware to defaults using xflash and xflash will allow you to dump the firmware. You just cant run it on the most current devhook.

Please go read my post's in the oh crap thread.

Kramer
August 15th, 2006, 13:33
actually i did get the latest devhook to work with a 1.5 dump.

NoQuarter
August 15th, 2006, 14:00
really how did you do it I couldn't get it to work, maybe because I dumped it with xflash?

Kramer
August 15th, 2006, 14:08
its hard to explain its got to do with four txt files not being written to the kd folder in flash0

NoQuarter
August 15th, 2006, 14:21
I think I know which files your talking about,I'll try it that way.Thanx
If you could give a detailed explaination it would be much appreciated, probably not just by myself other readers may find it usefull for the purpose of this thread.

Kramer
August 15th, 2006, 14:31
damn i was hoping you wouldnt ask because i cant really remember how i did it so ill have do it all again so i know what i did. Ill post a bit later on how to do it.

NoQuarter
August 15th, 2006, 14:47
Cool I appreciate it,sorry for putting you through the trouble, but it might really help out.
I tried eraseing the text files,no go.
Guess I'll try another dump method xflash may not decrypt.

Kramer
August 15th, 2006, 15:07
lol actually its got nothing to do with them folders its because when you use the dh fw installer for 1.5 it doesnt dump the flash1 folder into E: \dh\150

So you have to dump your own firmware using x-flash. When its finished dumping exit xflash go into usb mode and retrieve your dump from the x-flash folder it will be inside a folder called dumps. There will be two folders flash0 n flash1 just take the flash1 folder and put it in E: \dh\150 and that should do it. Run devhook and choose 1.5 not 1.5 flash.

NoQuarter
August 15th, 2006, 15:51
nevermind I tried to put both folders in there, guess that's what I did wrong.

Mr. Shizzy
August 15th, 2006, 18:34
I got the answer! If someone could recompile Devhook .45 to run off a folder called "dh2" on the root of the memory stick instead of "dh"; I could run 2 versions of devhook @ a time and the problem would be effectively solved!!!! I have to step out for a while. Ill check back this afternoon. THANKS AGAIN TO ALL FOR YOUR HELP & SUPPORT!!!!

rather than having the wlan run the devhook.pbp that came with the custom firmware, why not make it run the proper eboot (psp/game/devhook/eboot.pbp) that way your friend could choose what firmware to boot into

also, either i was lucky or your friend unlucky cause i downdated my 2.6 then used the same custom firmware as your friend and mine works fully, recovery mode, 1.5 (skip sce, hide corupts), wlan down into devhook 2.71 and autoload irshell...even with the skip sce and hide corupts off mine still works

dagger89
August 15th, 2006, 19:29
It can:
1) load 2.7 emulated fw w/ devhook (turn it on w/ wlan down)

2) autoboot a predefined eboot (set in config of custom fw) by holding x during boot

It can't:

1)load recovery mode
2)load 1.5

I rly dont have time to read through the whole thread, but it should be possible to change autoload to an emulated 1.5 thru devhook....I recommend that u talk to jas0nuk, he'd know what to do

Kramer

yeah i already hooked him up with the files he needed and he has got 1.5 to emulate. but thats just temporary fix

another thing that might work (as a final last resort)
you say you cant remover the custom firmware, but what if you tried installing dark axels over the top either with xflash or the original eboot, wouldnt this replace the custom firmware files with ones that (should) work?

could be too much for the flash to hold and you could be seriously screwd!

Thats not the entire reason it was bricked. If you read the oh crap thread i explained what really was the main factor. I too have downgraded a 2.6 psp and then put custom firmware on (BTW-It was succesful too), and it was harleygs custom firmware .2 . The reason this happened is because he performed the custom fimware on a very low battery. Which i believe is why were having all this trouble now. We have been working on this for a while now so any help is appriciated. I do think we are coming close to a solution.

I just wanted to let everybody know, that this project is "finished". I sat thinking, what is the function of the 1.5 firmware that I need? Just launching homebrew really. So I set up IRSHELL to autoboot (with the X button held in on startup). Problem solved. I guess I was so hellbent on restoring her 1.5 firmware that I couldn't see the answer was right in front of me. LOL Anyways just wanted to send out a big THANK YOU on behalf of LeftHookLori and myself- for all your help and support. It was much appreciated!:D
