Some customers who pre-ordered Microsoft’s year-defining FPS Halo Reach through online retailers The Hut and Hut-owned Zavvi today received their orders three days ahead of the game’s official worldwide release next Tuesday (September 14th).
The news echoes what was seen ahead of the release of Activision’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 last year, where The Hut shipped the game four days before release.
Back then the retailer claimed that it had taken measures to stop the Royal Mail delivering the games ahead of their official release date. That the same has happened 10 months later will likely irk some of its rivals.
There have also been sporadic claims for some indies – and even in one or two instances supermarkets – who have already started selling the title.
MCV has also learned that one London-based indie is allowing customers to buy the game immediately providing they pay a £10 premium on top of the asking price.

Developer Bungie has previously stated that it will reset all player stats on the game’s official release day so as to negate the advantage earned by those obtaining copies ahead of time.
