Capcom's formally announced the rumoured Ninja Theory-developed Devil May Cry game, titled DmC, at the Tokyo Game Show.

DmC is in development for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Capcom head honcho Keiji Inafune said it was too early to talk about a release date.

"From its debut on PlayStation 2 in 2001, the Devil May Cry series has been synonymous with stylish action, rewarding combat and a brash, smart-talking protagonist," reads the official blurb.

"This 'Devil May Cry DNA' remains but is now injected with a dark and brutal gameplay that promises to redefine the franchise."

It's set against a contemporary backdrop, and will depict a "duplicitous world where nothing is ever as it seems and the line between good and evil is constantly blurred".

A different-looking Dante's in the game, "spurred into action by the promises of a trusted relation". He's out for revenge at any cost.

The series' signature sword and gunplay will be complimented by additional weapons, new powers and a "revitalised gameplay system".

It's a collaboration between Ninja Theory and Capcom. Creative direction will be undertaken by Ninja Theory's Tameem Antoniades and overseen by Hedeaki Itsuno, who has worked on all previous titles in the series.

Antoniades described DmC as both a "reboot" and a "re-imagining" of the series. Dante is much younger than he was in previous games, and as a result is a tad more I HATE YOU.
