Startup iSwifter has emerged from stealth mode with a service that lets iPad users play Flash games from some of the world's biggest games portals.
The service describes itself as a 'cloud-based Flash streaming service', and while it works on iPad initially, iSwifter plans to roll it out to iPhone and iPod touch, as well as Android and Windows Phone 7 devices.
iSwifter works by 'streaming' Flash games to its dedicated iPad application - the iPad equivalent of console-focused services like OnLive and Gaikai. The games do not run on the device itself.
Services supported at launch include Yahoo! Games, AOL Games, Facebook and Kongregate - some of the largest web gaming portals in the world.
At launch - the app is available now on the App Store - one game per service is playable to demonstrate how the service works, but iSwifter tells ME that more games and portals will be added in the weeks ahead.
iSwifter is launching out of tech incubator YouWeb, which counts gaming startups Aurora Feint, CrowdStar and Sibblingz in its roster.
"We are targeting the much larger user base of casual and social gamers who want to consume gaming content on-the-go," says co-founder Rajat.
"As more mobile devices hit the market, there is no reason why game developers should be locked out of the hottest handsets."
