EA has broken its silence on The Godfather and divulged new details in the wake of this week's revelations on the videogame's star-studded acting line-up, including a brane new PSP version for the game.[br]Recent reports state that the publisher has let slip that gameplay in The Godfather is very much GTA in style - i.e. non-linear - which isn't really a massive surprise, also revealing that players create the title's main protagonist at the start of the game. This character is a small-time hood operating on the streets of New York, 1945 to 1955, who eventually earns enough respect to bring them into contact with the Corleone family. [br][br]EA's game is inspired by Francis Ford Coppola's The Godfather movie and Mario Puzo's novel rather than being a direct retelling of, as a result featuring an original story, complete with branching plotline. But key characters remain, and throughout the crime-riddled experience players will get to interact with the likes of Don Vito Corleone, Sonny Corleone and Tom Hagen, characters who are being voiced by the actors who portrayed them in Francis Ford Coppola's flick.[br]And it looks like the branching plotline will embellish the title's non-linear aspect, player actions and decisions apparently having "lasting consequences" in the game world.[br][br]Speaking further about the gameplay style, EA has reportedly stated that it will "offer gamers countless choices for solving the family's problems with brutal violence, skilful diplomacy, or a cunning mixture of both," the publisher additionally stating that missions will range from assassinations and bank robberies through to the likes of shakedowns and drive-by shootings.[br][br]And that's it for now. The Godfather is due out on PS2, Xbox, PC and PSP this autumn. We'll bring you further info as we get it.
