Geohot is finally able to jailbreak the 3.55 firmware that will come in a PUP file which means a CFW! George Hotz has stated that there will be no “peek & poke” in his PUP which would then enable mass piracy of PS3 games in the scene.

There is no word on release date but this does look promising.

Does this need a CFW or not? GeoHot does say something about a 'clean' 355, and I was led to believe that having the keys meant no CFW would be needed for homebrew.

The clean 3.55 indicates the official firmware, which then the custom firmware is installed on top.

The custom firmware is needed for homebrew, because there is no other way to install the packages.
